Tutorial: How To Make Custom Brushes (In Clip Studio Paint!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- In this Clip Studio Paint tutorial I explain the brush settings, how to make custom brush shapes and textures, as well as advice for designing brushes in general. I also share some tips for making special brushes, such as grass and leaf foliage brushes for backgrounds.
Here's the link to the free download of my basic round brushes: gum.co/ekfMr
Most of my art is made using these, in combination with CSP's default airbrush and blur. The rest of my brushes, such as the foliage ones I showed in the video, can be found on my Patreon in a pinned post.

I can not explain just how helpful this tutorial is. While Clip Studio's asset sharing feature is a wonderful thing, Nothing beats the feeling of creating each piece of the art yourself, even down to the "Shortcuts" such as foliage textures and stamps. This video helps show that with a little patience and critical thinking, you can create brushes that perfectly fit your needs, even if all the options make it seem daunting to begin with. Will definitely be forwarding this to anyone who uses Clip Studio within my friend group. Thank you!
I’ve been trying to make my own brushes, this is a great start for me. Really appreciate it! Thank you!
Since I bought Clip Studio, you're helping me alot to figure out so many functions and even understanding some curiosity that I always had but didn't knew how to ask. Really appreciate it.
P.S: Your art is amazing as always.
Thank you! your two CSP videos are the best ones on all of youtube, You went through many details that everyone overlooks, Good work and Thank you!
Yes! I’m so happy to get another tutorial from you 💕
Oh my goshhhh, I loved your first video on clip studio paint and I've been meaning to ask about the brushes you've used, thank you so much for uploading this too ❤️
Holy cow, I have been combing through videos trying to find the best explanation for making brushes in CSP, and yours is by far the best I've found. Your examples and way of explaining things really help me follow along. Thank you for making this video, it is helping me out so much!
Very easy to understand tutorial! I love your art, I look forward to seeing more timelapses :)
I started using Clip studio paint because of your tutorial!
Sorry photoshop but clip studio paint is my new best friend now!

I'm brand new to CSP (coming from Ps) and really appreciate the work you put into this video. I also purchased your brushes. The video is extremely well done and equally as helpful to getting me off the ground with CSP. Thank you for this and well done.
Yesssss..this is the best. I knew how to make then but making them "useable" you made a lot easier.
Nice Sunarko!
Thank you I'm terrible at following instructions and I haven't been able to figure out how to make a good brush for like 2 months but this video taught me so much in just some minutes

YES A NEW VIDEO-
So happy I came across your channel! I love using CSP, but wanted to have my own custom brushes. Procreate was the only program I was able to make custom brushes in, but I just liked the feel of CSP more (for making comics!) and it was so frustrating trying to make my own brushes. Your video was so easy to follow, I was able to make a custom brush in minutes, thanks so much for sharing!
단순한것 같지만 저에게 필요한 나이스한 팁입니다.
좋은 영상 만들어주셔서 감사합니다~^^
Great information, thanks.
i love this draw
thanks and your art is amazing!!!!!!!!!!
I was scrolling on youtube and saw your video! the art that you made, I saw it somewhere, maybe in pinterest. but I didn't knew it was you who drew it! it's really pretty
VERY IMORTANT!
If you are trying to make a brush tip, you must have the layer you are trying to register as a material SELECTED. I drew a bunch of plant variations and didn't understand why all the layers except the first were coming up as blank squares in the materials folder... it's because I was just turning them visible and not actually selecting the layer before hitting "register material->image".
I thought it was looking at the canvas as a whole but it actually just takes whatever is on the specific layer you've selected.
Not sure if she says this in the video but I'm putting it here just in case!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMENT!!
@@moodyjazzyblues You're welcome boo! 💕
I hope to continue seeing more things from you
As someone who has recently switched from Photoshop for 16 years to Clip Studio Paint, thank you SO so much!!
Good to hear you
I wish I was fortunate enough to be able to afford clip studio paint but for now I'll stick to my other programs. I have so many art programs and then some, this is the ONLY ONE I'd want most. But because of different looking brushes and my own art style, I think I'd need them all! BRUSHES ARE EVERYTHING!
Thank you, once again! *~*
thank you so much for this video :)
great tutorial choomnak! its nice to hear your voice

Beautiful 👍🏽👍🏽❤️
thank you so much!
I think it's a great tutorial.
Thank you
thank you so muchhhhh
can we talk about how pretty her art✩ plz do more tutorial
Thank you! XOXOXO
This is cool ^^^
Thank you for this! I was wondering if you would be willing to make a video on how to make your own hair brushes? I'm looking to do my own braid brush for example because I hate drawing them LOL
I would recommend getting a similar brush from the csp assets, doesn't have to be hair but something that you'd imagine works similarly, and studying the settings of that brush to figure out how to set up yours!
It shouldn't be too difficult to make a basic braid brush using the ribbon setting I think! Good luck :3
You're backkkkkkkk :DDDDDDDDD
Wow 🤩
👍🏻 keep it up
tysmmm
I just watched the beginners tutorial a moment ago and this got released lol
thanks
thanks so much❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ take my love
Hello
Thanks for the tutorial
Do you know if it s possible to add a personal brush shape? For example, I want a pen that makes a different pattern from the shape already there
Thanks :)
I don't know if you could make this into a video, but what canvas sizes do you prefer? I usually stay 2k and below, do you ever draw/paint in a specific size then crop the image cause you have to much space around your art piece?
at this point we can call it brush engineering, so much possibilities, it can be too powerful
Your art style is amazing, specially the bg is what i was looking for D: i was wondering what is the cost of your custom brushes for bg and and how many are available for purchase
Thank you, glad you like it! All of the ones that I made and used for that background are included in the brush bundle on my patreon pinned post for the $10 tier
Can u please do a step by step coloring tutorial? I like your coloring style
Can u make a vid on how to fix missing all different types of one brush
hello, what kind of graphics tablet do you use? :)
hello! may i know if how do you make the strand brushes? ☺️
plz more tutorial :(( We miss uu
i had always troubles with the brush sensitivity and the brush size in CSP until I found out by accident about the result if you do the curve in the very low right corner . since then I literally do all my brushes in the corner because you don't have to chance the brush size anymore, the gap of size is so huge means if you have little pressure you have a super thin line but if you press hard you have a veeery huge brush. it's convenient for people like me who don't use shortcuts and are really lazy to change brush sizes a lot xD especially when it comes on lining
how can you make a two-color brush? like, when you paint with it, the main color becomes one part of the brush and the other sub color the other part. like the default flower brushes?
Great tutorial!
I've been trying to create my custom twig brush but for some reason Clip Studio is ignoring the padding from my images once I add them as brush tips, so the smaller ones I've created scale up and look horrible.
Any idea what might be causing it?
The same thing is happening to me, did you ever figure it out??
I figured it out if you're still interested made me face palm ngl
Hi! I have the same problem and cant find the solution nowhere. The brush tip looks ignoring tha scale and the result looks so out of scale, how can you change this? @@yukienwart
How do u change the brush tip, I’ve been struggling a lot with my brush tip being circle like instead of sharp
OMG Your voice is calm, soft and beautiful
Why did you show up nowwwwwwwwwww
Hi do you have a tutorial on how to make hair brushes i want to create my own hair styles brushes
In the new CSP it has settings for a 2nd brush. Do you (or anyone) know how to use it effectively?
Can you do a tutorial where actually make a special brush? I have the art for a special brush I want to make (it's faces that I want to turn into a brush so I can make clothes look like they have little faces on it). But when I made the brush, the faces got warped and came out like a texture when I drag the brush across the canvas. I can't get the faces to keep their shape like how your fern brushes keep their shape.
I really liked this tutorial however I have been struggling to find one that would explain to me how to make a brush with the following qualities: Wiggle or like wavey line, smooth strokes with these wiggles instead of having to hand draw each and every wiggle everytime.
what?! you're real
im gonna faint...
Hello! Sorry for asking but when i tried to import the brush it wont let me because the format is unsupported. But when i check it again, the format is sut, so why is it unsupported. Im honestly super confused since i just bought csp xD
But thank you so much for the video, sunako!
That is weird, maybe something went wrong with unzipping the file?
