I walked the Camino in 2017 and 2022. I'm planning my third camino for this fall (2023). I'm 71 years old, so no time to waste! I will also use this opportunity to visit friends in Madrid and Avila.
Man this is a great guide, very thoughtful and complete. I love your sense of humor, you genuinely make me laugh every few minutes. I would gladly watch you talk about any topic. Thankfully for us you choose something as wholesome and transformative as the Camino!
Thanks a lot! I think that sense of humor can be applied to any subject, and it happened to be The Camino! Hopefully I’ll not get banned from the Camino ;) hugs
I’ll be leaving from Seattle WA to Iceland, then Paris, then SJDPDP to start. Will spend a couple days there acclimating to the time zone etc. Should be on the Camino by April 23, 2023. I’m retired sooo I’m going to take it slow and enjoy EVERYTHING. Even if it takes 60 days to get to the coast LOL. Hope to meet many pilgrims and hear their stories. Safe journeys my friends!
but 60 days is not so slow! hahahha take your time and maybe we will meet on the Camino! It would be good to make like a party in Santiago for all our viewers :)
Thank you for your channel and insight. I started preparing for the Camino Frances in Feb' 2022, this morning I flew from the UK to Spain. I travel to St Jean Pied De Port tomorrow ready to start walking on Tuesday. I cant thank you enough for your advice and enthusiasm :)
I will be walking the French way during September 2024. TBH I'll be starting along the French way, but I'm confident my route will follow a different path than the one most travelled.
Again another great video. In it you ask us to share why we are walking the Camino. If you’re able too see the image at the side of the message that is Barney my dog, who was sadly run over in my care. So I’ll be walking to honour him and ask for his forgiveness also it’ll be a great adventure for us both as his spirit will step with me! I hope that the Portuguese Camino is fruitful for Erica and yourself.
Terry! first of all, big HUG for you, we feel your pain! I have no doubts that this will be an unforgettable journey for you! Consider taking a stone, and whenever you feel like it you can bid the farewell to Barney... hope to see you on the way and share more time together! HUGS
Mare! We will be ahead of you 2 weeks.. so if you need fresh info, keep conected as we post while we walk, espetially the Thursday lives, that we will do from Camino Portugeses and Frances! Hugs

Hi Ricky , I am from Austria, and I am planning to start camino del norte from Irun in september. I watched many of your videos, and l got a lot of good and useful advice
Starting on 23 March in Baiona, Spain. Traveling the last 100 km on the coastal Portugues way. From Ponte Verda I shall go the spiritual route and look forward to meeting my beloved in Santiago de Compostela on Easter Day. Together we shall enjoy a bus tour to Finisterre and several cozy days at an Airbnb. My way has a spiritual discernment purpose. While I am hiking on my own, I am open to conversations with others along the way. See you along the way!
What a great vibe you have!!! Once on the spiritual variant, you can stay in the Monastery of armenteira, they have places (if albergue is full) ;) enjoy and if you are on Insta, tag us @caminotellers , hugssss
Saludos desde Texas, USA. My wife and I will do our Camino next year (October 2025). We only have 10 days so we will probably stick to Sarria to Santiago. When I retire in 2027 we will have the time to do a longer Camino (via de plata?). Who knows? We are both fluent in Spanish so it’ll be a nice adventure for us.
@@caminotellers we have decided to increase our stay by another week so we are not rushed and if we finish a little earlier we can rent a car and explore Spain by car! Thank you for your channel, it has been inspirational. No fear! Buen Camino everyone.

Popping in to say hi. I've been following you since I started preparing a year ago, and always a good video. Leaving the USA in a month now for the Frances.
I'm not doing the Camino yet. As of now, I'm the "2027 futuristic" pilgrim (based on your other vid, lol). Need to save up for it. But I enjoy watching your vids and have subscribed! As of now, I prefer to do the Portuguese route from Porto because I can do it in 2 weeks. In my occasional mountain hikes, I can do 35 km/ day, so I'm pretty confident that I can do ~25 km/ day and finish it in 2 weeks, due to time/ vacation constraints. It's also a less popular route, unlike the Frances which is very famous & commercial already. Cheers & buen camino!
I am from Dallas, Texas USA and going on the Camino Frances from Sarria to Santiago leaving September 28th of this year. We are a group of women from my church and we will spend five days mid-walk volunteering at the La Fuente de Peregrino. I have shared my preparation experience as it goes along with my husband and now we are considering doing the whole Camino Frances in a couple a years after he retires. Your videos have been very helpful and very entertaining. Thank you. (I hope our paths will cross some day!)
im just so happy to see your new video at the right time while i am preparing for my first ever camino. it is very exciting but my only fear is sleeping at the dormitories with a dozen of others😙( or in fact not being able to sleep at the dormitories because of all the expected "outcomes" of pilgrimage 😅) i am trying to find a partner to share a private accomodation so that it would be more affordable. Once i solve this issue, i will be right on my way! Hoping to come across to you finally 🤗
28:42 Thank you for your videos Ricky! My friend and I are starting our Camino from St. Jean on May 19th! We decided to pre book a hotel in every town so we can enjoy the walk without the “race for the bed”. We built in an extra day in 5 of the towns.
hi! it's reat to have you here! it's sounds like a amazing plan! we walked all of these camino separately apart of the san salvador... during live streams and our videos we will discuse more about it, stay conected! P.D. this is a big BUT great challange for the first time, it will be amazing!
Saludos from NY. Very interesting video with helpful inf. I am doing the Camino Frances starting May 19 from St. Jhon Pied de Port , i am very excited.
Yanira! Welcome to our Tribe, many people here start from SJPDP. If you into religion, at 18.00 there is a pigrims Mass at local church where you get a blessing for the Camino adventure! and if you not into religion, the LUIS CAFE on the main street is a common place for locals and pilgrims to enjoy some nice beverages ;) Hugs
Excellent guide. Thank you for everything! All the content! I am taking your advice to heart. As preparation for next year, my husband and I have increased our daily trekking by 5 miles daily. I know I feel sore in the mornings. (My Achilles likes to pretend that it’s going to break off of my heel all the time, so it gets special treatment.) We haven’t added our backpacks, yet, except for a water reservoir pack I have been wearing. Once this is easier, we will increase the distance again. Thank you for making this video, and by extension, for making this journey something we feel confident about taking. What an adventure it will be! 💕
Stephanie! Great to have you here! Do you have like a park or land near your place that you can walk ? Make it a habit, and the walking the Camino will be as easy as... every morning coffee! Let's keep the track of your preparations and if you need some motivation, we're here to help!
It is possible to over train. I ended up with stress fractures in both heels, which my orthopedic doctor attributed to lots of mileage with my 10 pound pack. I trained for 1 year, increased my mileage weekly by 1/2 mile, and got up to 17 miles (in 6.5 hours, with several breaks), and then I started tapering down. After lots of forced rest, I am good to go now and leaving for the Camino in several weeks. Buen Camino!
I love watching your videos. I'm planning to do the Camino in May, hopefully we ll meet on the Camino and I'd love to have coffee with a fellow youtube :) cheers.
Thank you for this wonderful video! I havent decided which way to take and when will my journey be BUT I am preparing for it. Looking forward to my first Camino journey.😊
Lexi! thanks for being here! 21st is just around the corner, how exciting! we will be there around that time too, so if you see us, remember... come over and let's celebrate! hugs
As always you made a beautiful video!still 3 weeks for me and i'll be in sjpdp..then via de la plata..and at the end rota vicentina e cammino portoghese..4 months of Adventure
Michele! We thought that we are quite crazy to do Portugese Way and then French, but seeing your schedule, I have to say, we are not the only ones... 😂 i think we will meet on the way!
It is better to use an ATM inside of a bank when it is open than to use a money exchange at the airport or train stations. Once you start walking, you will not find places to exchange money. An ATM will give you better rates too. Don't use the random ATMs that are on the street. Starting the Camino Frances in SJPDP on 15 April, so hope to run into you sometime over the following 47 days. (I am a slow walker and like to enjoy shorter days so that I have energy for sightseeing) It was so much fun meeting you last spring!
Jo! 47 days, that rocks! we hope to do the same in the end of May! the ATMs that we recommend are of the national banks only, like CAIXA, BBVA, ING, ABANCA or SANTANDER and few other once. the small ATMs can charge you a big commissions, so true! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! HUGS
Melinda! thanks a lot, and hope that you will have an amazing Journey! Actually you will experience 3 different Caminos - yours, your husbands and the one you will do together!
@@caminotellers will do. Got a very sore left leg at the mo. Not a good feeling when I have to walk in a couple of weeks. No room At Orisson either so will have to walk the whole first day. Ah well nothing ventured nothing gained. Will let you know how I’m getting on x
LOVE your videos, suggestions and stories - and humor. Sheridan from Central New York; starting the Camino Frances in early September 2023 (first Camino, not first time in Spain). Probably not doing the whole route (finish Spring 2024?). Hope to meet some of your along the journey. ;)
@@caminotellers Si, perof en bicileta con me hemano. Hopefully, we will spend the first half of May 2024 on the Camino Frances. I say hopefully because I had to cancel my April 2020 Camino due to Covid. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the reply.
Hi, you know who! to be honest, this was the plan! It wasn't a cooking show but the Limonade for hot Camino days, but when I saw how long the video was I had to start trimming what was purely entertaining!
Thank you, great video. I love that you had to do an extra 15km. The refusal to book means that's the risk we take. I had a day on my trip through England that I had started looking for a camping spot at 5ish and finally found one in the black of night at about 8:30. Not to be repeated but serves me right.
@@caminotellers no not a specific route, there were a few places I wanted to include so I started at the Cathedral in Carlisle, went down through Cumbria and the Yorkshire dales, then on to Leeds (where my daughter lives) and Sheffield (where my son lives) then Sherwood forest and on to Ely and next time out I'll hit Canterbury and on to the south coast.
Hoping to walk my first Camino this Autumn. My reasons are multifarious... I am a 33 year old guy from London. After a beautiful but tragic relationship born in the Covid lockdown finally came to an end last year, and my ex finding someone new just a month ago, I have found myself feeling lost and consumed by doubt. This has combined with a large change in my professional life. I was a touring musician for 7-8 years (which was something that the lockdown killed, actually), but now, post Covid and post-her, I have found myself moving into voice acting. I filled the in between years with odd work such as horticulture, gardening and working in a record shop. The record shop in particular has been unfulfilling spiritually as it is an area surrounded by crackheads and drug dealers, people generally being unkind to themselves and to eachother. I find myself sick of my life here, sick of the city I've lived in for 13-14 years, tired of smoking weed, tired of not being healthy, tired tired tired. There have already been glimmers of hope. Voice acting is already making more money than music ever did for me, I am learning Spanish (my ex was Catalan and spoke several languages which inspired me). I am no longer smoking or drinking and am now planning to eventually move to Barcelona in the next year or so. The Camino de Santiago was recommended to me by a dear friend and fellow musician, who walked it after the breakup of a relationship that lasted for his entire 20s. It seems that the reflection afforded to those who walk the Camino, as well as the opportunities to meet and unmeet fellow travellers along the road is something of a metaphor for life. I hope that, as I reach this middle passage in life, that I may be afforded some of that reflection and may leave with a clearer understanding of myself in this new act.
You not gonna believe but the message somehow disappeared from our “comments board “ and the appeared again few days ago, so please excuse us a late answer! Thanks a mil for sharing your inspiring story of change, you are making a great steps towards the NEW you and Camino can be only a next consecutive one! We feel connected to your experiences as we are also artists and sharing our work with public is our daily bread. It’s not always easy, but it’s special! Hope we can be of some help for you in your journey, if necessary! Sorry one more time for a late answer- must be some sort of technical glitch! Big hugs 🤗 and btw, what your name?
@@caminotellers Hey guys :) So my name is George and my surname is Smiley. Yes, it's true. My old band is called Smiley & The Underclass, which is the account I am posting from. I'll be walking the Camino Frances in mid-Sept to Oct (tickets are booked now, no turning back!) . I've enjoyed some of your live videos too, but it's funny, I don't want to see too much as I want every corner to be a surprise when I do get to walk! If you are around in that time it would be very cool to meet you both :) Otherwise, thanks for all the brilliant advice and videos
Thank you, excellent information. We love your (and your wife) sense of humor. 1 Sep to 22 Oct. Big question as the weather will get worse (rain) in October - rain pants? Yes or No?
Great content. Thank you for putting it together :)) Bringing some info about the SIM card: if you purchase a SIM card in EU, it will work in any EU country as it'd in the country you bought it
Georges! How are you? You new the last at least 120 km and 2 stamps a day to get the Compostela(diploma) why? It’s a good question… rules of the General Pilgrim Office. And if you on the bike, you need 200km…
Which camino is best for doing fot the first time in october? primitive or portuguese? I have 13 days ! thank you so much for all the valuable videos and good vibes! un abrazo desde Chile 💛
Both might be rainy but Portugues probably less. The primitivo would be chosen by people who like little hikes as some parts are in mountains- nothing like Himalayas, but still.😂 Portuguese central route is mostly flat and more easy to walk… it’s a good option!
Hi, thanks for this video. I'm starting my Camino this Sept. 2024, from St-Jean Pied de Port. All the guidebooks I have provide different information about weather conditions in Sept., which is a bit confusing. Any tips on packing for September? I actually have a lot of questions, but I'll start with the weather first. Thanks again...
We are here to help, so don’t hesitate with the questions :) the wether in September - second part can be tricky! It’s good to take 2 layers with you and… we take a small foldable down jacket( that’s because we are cold in general- body no heart ❤️) . Rain is also a big possibility, so poncho o rain jacket- there is entire video about weather on Camino we did few moths ago!
I’m planning my trip in sept. It’ll be my first walk.. I’m so excited .. I’m still trying to decide which route to take, any advise ? My schedule is pretty open. Thxs!
Go by your intuition and heart! If you into silence choose a secondary options, if you into people consider main routes! There are nearly 15 Caminos, so hard to give an exact advice, connect to our Thursday live and we will talk about it! Higs
Looking forward to my first camino some day, but i was wondering if there was any option to just camp along the way rather than stay some place. I'm an avid camper and have hiking tents as well as just a lightweight hammock i enjoy sleeping in under the stars. Is this an option?
Camping is illegal on Camino (and they can fine you really bad if they catch you!). There are some official places along the way but they aren’t many! 😕 accommodation is widely available and is not expensive, depending on the route of your choice you can find from €8 a night. And you also have donation albergues, where you can leave a donation for the accommodation they provide!
@caminotellers so I'm not allowed to be so tired I can't walk any more to get to the next place and just toss up a hammock or find myself unable to get a bed because everyone is full and end up sleeping on the street? well that sucks, I really enjoy sleeping in a hammock under the stars and also have a lot of social anxiety so I'm not super peopley.
I walked the Camino in 2015 at the age of 70 and I think you lose 90% of the experience by over-planning. Read one of the books ("Spanish Steps" for example) then go. Sod the packing list - use common sense and don't be afraid to admit and correct mistakes. Above all, do not rush the first week. Chances are you've done no training, take it very easy. The big advantage of being retired is that it doesn't matter if it takes y see more. Stop in every city in a cheap hotel for a day or two.or three months to do it. You'll see more and have a greater experience than the "fast guys" with return tickets booked!
Amén! We share this philosophy, go slow, take little and above all- don’t overthink! Easy to say but how to do it? It requires lots of trust. But we have it, we all have it!
Hi there, I'm planning my first Camino in juli this year, and I have only 3 weeks to handel with this. My plan is to take Camino del San Salvador the first week, and Primitivo the nexst to weeks. My condition is from bed to nothing. 😢 I am sure I will done this, I have tusind of reasons to do it, and I'm ready to do it. I climbed big mountains before I've got married 😅. Well My question is: I want to du this time by my self, but I have a very good friend wich wants to joyn my from Oviedo to Compostela. What you will sugest my? Thanks for your videos. I enjoyd every time. All the best. Marius
Marius, you are the part of Caminotellers, you are so funny! (The wife part) Hahaha we would recommend you only Primitivo as it takes 16- 20 days,320 km by the mountains, not easy. And we prepare to walk slower, as you enjoy more ;) hugs

@@caminotellersSounds good! If I see you, i'll buy you a cup of coffee!
Thank you! And thank you for being so darn funny.
Coeur d'Alene Idaho and my son and I will be walking the French route Sept to Oct this year. 💕
Wow! I love the idea of family walking, it’s the best bounding exercise you can make! Hugs, (and thanks for being our member)
Hey Erica, we're from Moscow, and will be on the Camino in June 2023. Burn Camino.

Excellent video; fun, informative and inspirational. Keep them coming 😊
I've just done a part of Camino del Norte, the views are amazing!
Yeaaaa, Camino del Norte is the TOP!
Hi. I have been enjoying your posts. I start from Porto on April 29 Starting from the centre of Canada Looking forward to this.
Clinton! We are just on the Portuguese way, and it is a great path! Next Sunday we will be live from one of the stages, keep connected! Hugs
I start in porto on 23rd of May 🥰🖐️
Tick tock… so excited for you!
I love watching your videos. I'm planning to do the Camino in May, hopefully we ll meet on the Camino and I'd love to have coffee with a fellow youtube :) cheers.
Hey Saloua, thanks for the message! We are planning our caminos and starting in 8 days, first the Portuguese and then the French Way 💪🏻🤞🏻☕

Michele! We thought that we are quite crazy to do Portugese Way and then French, but seeing your schedule, I have to say, we are not the only ones... 😂 i think we will meet on the way!
Beautifully done my friends. x
Nick! great to have you here! thanks for sharing your experience with the Tribe.
HUGS
Thanks!
Thanks Marsha! when is your Camino?
Great information as always and thank you for sharing your knowledge. My husband and I will start the Camino Frances on April 12th. Buen Camino!!
Melinda! thanks a lot, and hope that you will have an amazing Journey! Actually you will experience 3 different Caminos - yours, your husbands and the one you will do together!
Thanks for your wonderful videos. I’m off in 2 weeks to do my first Camino Frances. In trepidation and excitement ultrea x
Sooo excited for your Journey Dittany! You will do great! Let us know how the thing are moving while walking ... hugs

Really nice video Ricky although I thought you were going to do a cooking show because of the way you were playing with that lemon.
Hi, you know who! to be honest, this was the plan! It wasn't a cooking show but the Limonade for hot Camino days, but when I saw how long the video was I had to start trimming what was purely entertaining!
I am starting in less than a month ❤
kaise ho? it's great to have you here! where is your starting point?
Colorado USA!!! Start Sept 9 2023 Frances route. To end of earth
Thank you, great video. I love that you had to do an extra 15km. The refusal to book means that's the risk we take. I had a day on my trip through England that I had started looking for a camping spot at 5ish and finally found one in the black of night at about 8:30. Not to be repeated but serves me right.
Thanks Carol! Btw, which is the route that you travel in England? is it a particular Way?
@@caminotellers no not a specific route, there were a few places I wanted to include so I started at the Cathedral in Carlisle, went down through Cumbria and the Yorkshire dales, then on to Leeds (where my daughter lives) and Sheffield (where my son lives) then Sherwood forest and on to Ely and next time out I'll hit Canterbury and on to the south coast.
You are the king of Camino. How can I buy you a cup of coffee?
@@caminotellers Hey guys :)
So my name is George and my surname is Smiley.
Yes or No?
Hi Don! Great to have you here! October- rain 🌧️ will be there… so I would go for rain pants and poncho
🙏🏼😍
Nona! big hugs for you? What about your Camino?
Btw, planning to do the French way if possible
Great content. Thank you for putting it together :)) Bringing some info about the SIM card: if you purchase a SIM card in EU, it will work in any EU country as it'd in the country you bought it
Thank u but I didn't understand why I should stamp twice if u can explain. I will start my camino in the first of June on the French way thank u
Rain is also a big possibility, so poncho o rain jacket- there is entire video about weather on Camino we did few moths ago!
do you have an email? you answered more questions than anything that I've seen! your great!
Hello Rick, thanks for the message. How email is: hello@caminotellers.com
If you have more questions let us know 😁
I’m planning my trip in sept.
Higs
Sorry, forgot to say, we are from Belle River, Ontario, Canada - training has begun - currently walking approx 30 km per week.
Nice! You will be more then ready for your Camino! Keep us updated ;)
Firstly thank you for the informative video
Question : Is camping possible on Camino de Santiago ?
If so where can I camp?
Camping on Camino is a tricky business! many places are forbidden. Join our Live Thursdays, where we will answer more Camino questions, hugs
I am sure I will done this, I have tusind of reasons to do it, and I'm ready to do it.
I will be doing Camino del Norte in 2024. I am a solo woman, 64 years old. Is this route good for a solo woman?
