What a phenomenal game this is turning out to be. I hear that game balance needs a lot of work but for now, it won't matter much as I'll doubtless be in over my head and then some.
Idd. The biggest issue atm is poor performance and lack of FSR or Frame generation. In modern day and age its baffling decision. Its not as bad as Cities Skylines 2 but its close.
@TacticatGaming yea actually now that I played a game until act 3, it's ridiculous how quick tech advances without me doing anything specific for it. Also AI are realy bad at military
11:00 also the type of connection influences how often you get the traded resource. Land connection is like 1/10 turns, sea route is like 1/6, and early road route is 1/4. Super important to upgrade the connections to other civs. But also makes them move faster if they choose to invade. So many pros and cons
I just played 10 hours.., whew, pretty dang good. Thanks a lot for explaining the whole Army stuff..., I was totally confused about that. I am still weak on how Trade works, but you mentioned I need roads to the other civs, that explains that. You are still the God of Aura. Thanks
I can trade, however do I lose the resources when it says I am trading metal tools for example. I assume I am, but there is no way for me to see ahead of time. Also, if I don't pick something to trade after agreeing to trade, do they still take something from me?
Thanks so much for this breakdown. Seems like a lot of the complaints I’ve seen about the micro aspect of crafting is made less of a problem by your tips.
Instead of clicking the green mountain icon to spawn your units at that city, you can click the name at the bottom left and you will have a drop down menu of all of your cities to choose from. Also, the unit buffs from tactics will show up as an orange-ish up arrow at the top right of the unit icon and will specify the boost to your unit. You should choose the tactic first, then fill in with the unit to ensure you're choosing the correct ones to get the bonus. I think this is why you didn't notice a difference in the video.
they need to add what vicky 3 has, mass upgrade button or mass production change button. Let me add a plow to every single farm that can possibly handle a plow with one click
Im sad that people are giving bad reviews to the game, it seems there mostly about performance issues, I don't have problems myself due to my super-computer but yeah I hope the game get better reviews soon.
Well, as TactiCat says numerous times in this video, there are many aspects to this game that can be overwhelming. Doesn't help that the UI isn't intuitive and they had a rather basic tutorial to teach you how to use the UI. This video is 100 x better than anything Oxide put out. They should have hired a content creator to make a series of videos on gameplay, as I've seen on a few other games over the years. It would have gone a long way to boosting the initial reception of the game.
There are big issues with the performance but it seems to be releated to the shadow setting. If you set it to direct-shadow only (which is the lowest option) then all the lag and all the problems stop. I'm playing on a 7950 X3D and a 4090, so my PC isnt weak but couldnt play this on 5140x1440 without lagging from round 0. With the change of the shadow its now within the expected range of performance. Odd that the devs didnt notice this.
I think a lot of the bad reviews are also because people didn't know what they were getting in to, because this game was a bit difficult to market. It's a Civilisation survival city builder kinda, and people expected civilisation with no caveats, which of course means that they'll get frustrated with the complexity of the game. I hope the game will find its audience.
@@joshuareed2188 With the production chains, it's more like Anno with Civ. Waaaay back in the day, Call To Power 2 tried something like this but it never caught on and Civ just steamrolled it :). @@TacticatGaming You're doing an excellent job explaining this game! You’ve become my go-to tutorial channel. I’ve only had the chance to play few hours so far, but I've enjoyed every minute of it. I’m not sure if you’ve gone over the battle results screen in your other videos to analyze how combat calculations are done, but it would be great if you could make a video dedicated to the combat system. I’d be really curious to hear your thoughts on what makes it so engaging compared to other games.
I think this game has great bones, there's just a lot of QoL and AI things that need work. The micro of production chains is fun but gets overwhelming once you have more than a handful of cities, and on medium difficulty it is trivial to steamroll your neighbors even if you recruit from cities with low security. Also seems like it is going to have the same problem Civ does where the mid-late game just turns into a massive slog to the finish. I'm in the Renaissance Era with almost double the nearest competitor's prestige and this is the first game I've played minus a few restarts to understand the mechanics.
If you enjoy the video please hit the like button and leave a comment - something simple like “I like rice” - this helps the UA-cam gods direct the video to more people. Thank you!
Great video, i am playing this game for 2 days now, and i have to say it starts growing on me. I go to sleep and think about how i can optimize my cities further. please mald a bit more on how bad the Coffee guy is. ty
Seeing this after watching some of your stream. You've definitely got a better grasp of the UI to control your empire. Excited to see another stream at higher (highest?) difficulty after the level up I see.
This game is somehow both more complex and easier to play/understand than any Civ game, which is quite the feat. If they can iron out some mechanics and improve pacing, this can easily be the go-to 4x game this generation.
It gets easier to understand as it becomes familiar - I’m at a point now where I’m enjoying the game a lot now that I understand how to manipulate more mechanics
I think that upgrades and goods are revealed too soon. Building a dwelling in the bronze only shows , but when you click om it, its a game console... the + should only show when you're in an era that has this technology
I just played a game .. idk man. The first thing I had a very hard time with was picking a leader. Not only are my prefernations missing, the ones I do like have really bad stats (like Japan has a 50% increase in declaring a casus balli .. wtf?) and many of the leaders are completely nonsensical. Argentina, has an actress as their leader... who was the second and later ex wife of former president of Argentine Juan Peron. Why? The leader choices are infuriating, there isn't a single nation I really want to play as other than Japan, maybe the Ummayads, also I was pretty sure the Mongols were in this game, but they aren't. The game itself is nice, but .. idk, I feel the countries with prestige disappear system is weird. My relationship with mexico was pretty high, wen't lower for no reason. Then I took mexican envoys hostage and it lowered our relationship by one .. a few turns passed and he came with a trade proposal. We were trading before but apparently that canceled or something? But relations were back up 1 and with the trade another 1 so we were back on good terms. For no reason. The crafting etc is pretty cool. Crafting plows for my farms etc. Food seemingly not affecting growth was a surprise at first. The army system is strange, why does it take 3 whole turns to deploy my troops? Why can't I (couldn't find it at least) redploy my troups in Battlions instead of squads? The tech tree is strange, so when I get to the next era, I can skip a bunch of old era research.. but that research is then lost. So what if I haven't researched something that turns out to be vital? It seems to be just gone. So it seems to me that it's super wasteful to do that unless you know the worst and most useless techs and then it just becomes a list of "yeah these you don't have to research, these techs are meta" .. it's just not a good system. Because now many of the lesser techs will never be used.
From my limited playing I've seen advanced technologies unlocking similar things as older technologies. I'm not sure it's a perfect spread, and pretty sure for wonder buildings they are only tied to 1 technology, but missing an old technology does not seem to mean you won't be able to have any of its benefits in the future. And yah, I was also confused about the leaders tied to countries, they tried to get an even split between men and women there, but sometimes that means a bit of grasping for straws due to, well, history (without any value judgement there).
Devs have said they are working on a Global Crafting UI Screen that didn't quite make it in time for release. So hopefully will see big improvements there soon.
Heads up Disband units into reserve and upgrade units is on the list per the dev - those features will be in the game but aren't at this moment
What a phenomenal game this is turning out to be. I hear that game balance needs a lot of work but for now, it won't matter much as I'll doubtless be in over my head and then some.
