      @Multorum Unum 2 spirals colliding so close to each other that they left a tiny path for the next color to pass to the centee, for any reason once the blue generated there was no red in contact, so as it was sorrounded by green it just expanded

      Is it actually possible to code an interactive version as screen-saver ? That would be enthralling.

    • @fritz1and2

      It is totally possible to do that. You can even code your own games and put them as a desktop background now'a'days.

      This is kind of an old way (since I am not up to date on how to do it currently) but you can download software to upload movies and flash animations / games as a screensaver. so since you can do flash you can make a game with it technically. Then the desktop part I know the easiest and most up to date way of doing it. You can download (I think it is like 5 to 15 dollars) a software off of Steam powered to be easily be able to upload almost anything as a desktop backgrounds. Such as videos that can play sound to legit games you can code yourself.

    Neat!
    I remember back in the 70's when my fellow computer geeks and I got into Life, one of the guys did a variant called Angels and Devils. This appears to be an Angels/Devils/Hamsters (whatever). Neat to watch at that frame-rate!
    P.S. About twenty years later I had a chance to attend a lecture by Conway in Montreal. At the end I went to the front and shook his hand, thanking him for the Game of Life. I'm guessing he gets a lot of that!

    Fascinating ! What is the criterion for a coloured cell to take over a blank one ?

    • @3snoW_
      @3snoW_ 4 роки тому +15

      The link in the description has a brief explanation:
      For each cell, one neighboring cell is selected at random (uniform 1 in 8 chance of picking any given neighbor).
      The behavior that will be executed depends on the current cell being considered. In this demo, there's just 4 cell types: white space and the 3 colors.
      Each color has 10 different gradient levels. When I click with the mouse, I insert a cell of level 0. If a whitespace picks a colored cell, and that cell's level is < 9, the whitespace gets replaced with the current color + 1, as if the cell was producing a slightly weaker-colored offspring. That means cells grow randomly outwards until the outer "shell" of a given colored blob cannot divide anymore.
      The "feeding" rule follows a rock-paper-scissors principle -- red eats blue, green eats red, and blue eats green. A cell is "upgraded" towards level 0 when it eats another cell, and is "downgraded" or killed if it gets eaten. What that means is that mobility is observed when a blob of cells eats another.

  • @kennethcason

    Oh cool! I built something very similar when I was simulating Pokemon Type Battles. I started out with a "Fire, Water, Grass" simulation, which I also analogously called "Rock, Scissor, Paper". I then added more and more balanced types, similar to the "Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock" joke below. :), up to 26 different types. I also included convergence rates. At the very end I added the Pokemon generation 1 type simulations.

  • @eleanorblake697
    @eleanorblake697 4 роки тому +2

    Neat! It looks like there are fixed-point attractors that make the spirals; can you predict where they are and how many there will be from initial conditions?

    • @momom6197
      @momom6197 Рік тому +1

      The attractors have as center a point that is in contact with all three colours; the order determines the direction of rotation.
      First scenario: during the initialisation, all colours grow a bit into the white, which can create these points if they spawn close together.
      Second scenario: shortly after initialisation, a color is eating another and gets eaten by a third. The third eats faster relative to the eating surface of the first two (for example if it progresses at an angle) and catches up, creating a three-way point
      Third scenario: a spawning spiral will expand its area of influence cycle after cycle (if it doesn't peter out because of irregular rotation between the three colours). When two spirals meet at odd colours (which is likelier than not), it results in a new three-way point which then dominates its surroundings.
      Fourth scenario: local instability results in the breaking of a colour frontier which allows a three-way point to appear unexpectedly.
      The simulation is not regular, which I assume to be either because of small amounts of randomness in propagation speed or floating-point approximations. This makes the scenarii a pain to envision, and so I can't prove off the top of my head that the fourth scenarii proposed are the only ones.
      Deletion scenarii are easier; I'll let you make your own opinion on them!

      Blue wins. It's a chaotic system and as soon as a non-chaotic object appears that object will over infinite time take over the whole system. So blue will win, because it was the first such object.

      @The coo - king In case anyone else is reading this thread and is as stupid as all the other commenters other than The coo - king, The coo - king is correct. This is why blue advances into green's territory, green advances into red's territory, and red advances into blue's territory as time passes.

    Wow, this is really interesting, because of the similarity between this and a chemical magic trick called a BZ reaction. My only youtube video on here just happens to be a video of one of those I took about a year ago, so if you want to see what I mean, go to /watch?v=yiFJ1Dc296A and go to around the 9:00 mark. This is just my opinion here, but the similarity between the patterns in this video and the BZ reaction is just weird enough for it to not be a coincidence.

    Well chemical reactions would be a form of complex adaptability. More complex than this obviously.... the more complex the reactions the more complex the outcome.... and nobody is in the driving seat its all simple rules creating it.

    And now, if one of these evolved to be just a fraction of a second faster then the system would collapse and that one type of cells would be the only ones to survive :P
