@@fitgearhunter Thank you I really appreciate the response! Weighing getting rid of my Forerunner 255 and 6x for this now that I figured out the size of these is fine for me. Just bought this watch as a newbie to workout/ running world, I know it’s over the top for me but I love the features it comes with even if I don’t hit all of them. I have the new 255 and 955 Solar and I’m selling them both and going back to Apple. Customer Service between Apple and Garmin is night and day. I had an issue with my watch (user error) and they wanted me to download files and possibly send it back to them. It was going to be a couple days until they got back to me. What I did is I couldn’t get my backlight to come on but I had set my sleep window starting at 845 am until 845 pm. I figured it out before Garmin could. Sleep tracking on Garmin is horrible. My Apple OS9 matches my Fitbit almost identically which has great sleep tracking. My Garmin will say 0 minutes awake when I get up twice to go to the bathroom and many times will give me 20 minutes of REM and every other watch (Apple/Fitbit) it is always consistently 1 hour and 30 minutes or so. If the sleep tracking is not consistent and correct your readiness score will not be accurate since it is based on that. Also, when wearing the pulse oximeter it will show my oxygen always getting down to 74-89 at night. My Apple never drops below 95. If oxygen levels are not correct, sleep tracking is not correct to me it is a toy. Also, there a times I am walking around the house and my heart in every Garmin I have ever had will sometimes show 120-130 bpm. I checked it against a pulse oximeter and it is only in the 80s. Then I sit down down and it will take a minute or two (sometimes longer) for the heart rate to catch up to the pulse oximeter. It is accurate when I start a workout and end it with the recovery heart rate. I ordered the Ultra. It cracks me up that people that have this 1100 watch still need a strap. I have a Polar H10 and it always matches my Apple Watch so I stopped using it. The biggest difference between the two is usually 1-2 bpm.
Also, regarding battery life the Enduro 2 is 1099 and recommended chest strap 100. That makes it 1199. You could get a series 8 and Ultra for that same price. Your battery would never go dead. Use the Series 8 all day at the office and throw it on the charger and put on the charger then turn on the Ultra and run and workout. Before going to bed put on the Series 8 because it will be back to 109 and your Ultra will charge all night. It has the same thing the true up in Garmin has as all the data will go to one place. All the metrics are the same and will be recorded and it is a lot faster since you don’t have to let it sync like the Garmin true up. Just tap on your phone which watch you want to wear and it does it instantly. It is the same price as the Enduro 2 with a chest strap and now you have two watches. One for dress and the office and one for those activities. You basically have a back up watch. If something happens to your Enduro 2 your just out of luck until it gets fixed if it is someone’s only activity watch. Just food for thought. I think Apple with update the activity levels like rest days and such in a future update. I know when to rest and when not to. I think the opposite on the body battery and think it’s a scam (not a real scam). I have had a body battery waking up at 60 and feel better on a 60 then sometimes waking up with a 90 body battery. It also never keeps me from doing what I want to do based on what my body battery was. I have had a body battery at 30 at 7 pm and felt exhausted, tired and stressed and have had a body battery at 5 at 6pm and feel like I was a bundle of energy.
@@chriscarpunky I can see your points all around! Although I’ve never had any issues like you were mentioning with sensor, accuracy, at least not with the elevate 4.0 that’s on all of the newer watches. That is definitely strange and clearly it has something to do with Garmin’s sensor and your skin or some thing because you have two watches! That’s terrible that you had that issue with the backlight, that is definitely the first place to look and I’m sorry you got a bad customer service rep. I’ve had great customer service experiences, and thankfully haven’t had any complaints, but I can see why you were frustrated. And I can totally see where you were coming from on the price, so I definitely understand the sympathy and desire to just go with the Apple Watch. You can definitely piece together a lot of similar metrics using a number of different apps. if you get the ultra, let me know what you think!
The enduro 2 will def last longer long term then the Apple Watch two years the battery on ultra will degrading and u will notice will the enduro 2 u won’t notice cause of how long the last garmins are tanks the Apple Watch ultra is def built nice tho
@@danielvargo8369 that's a very valid point. The battery on the AWU will degenerate over time from 2.5 days to 1.5 days. This is still better from the decline of the standard AW from 1.5 days to 20 hours, but still. Also - while testing the AWU vs Garmin Epix and Enduro 2 I'm still finding the conglomeration of apple apps to only partially compile what the garmin does automatically. The morning report from garmin is awesome. And still the best physio feature of any watch I've tested is Body Battery. While the sleep stages of the AW is tested to be the best, I'm not finding it to add any real value - like at all - in directional wellness and training. The HRV on the Garmin is now fully in line with all other devices, and is the most primary sleep metric - add to that Body Battery 24x7 and I'm not looking to replace Garmin with AWU yet - but it's only been a week and a half - but still.... Last - Garmin introduced Jet Lag feature on new Marq watches today that will port to top end other watches. It's thing like this - Next Fork, Climb Pro, Mapping, Navigation, Jet Lag, Body Battery, Stamina, Race Calendar, Training Readiness, Daily Training Plan Recommendations and a million specialty sport profiles that have specificity (golf, skiing, mountain biking, bouldering, indoor rowing, cycling, etc) that make Garmin still the industry leader (by far) in serving the training and fitness community.
Hey! I would think it would be a bit big honestly. BUT - I have found I can adjust to anything, so you may be able too. It may depend on what you are used to now. What are you wearing? You may want to go with the F7 or Epix. The Epix has a crazy brilliant screen.
Yes will work on a plan for that. Unfortunately they didn’t upgrade any true fitness aspects so not urgent yet. I do like the look over the basic AW a ton better though.
Hey! No - unfortunately not. I did a Venu 2 review and the Plus really just adds the extra voice activation and some phone features - not enough for me to merit a new review since none of the wellness/training features have changed - I have to limit what watches I can afford to buy based on that currently - maybe one day I can review them all!
How do you compare Garmin Fenix 7s vs Garmin Fenix 7? Any thoughts about the advantages disadvantages? My wrist seems better fit for the 7 what would I loose? The enduro 2 seems the top, but it’s too expensive for me.
Sure thing. The 7S has ALL of the same feature, just in a smaller watch w a smaller screen and less battery life, so you’ll lose NONE of the basic value. Go for it!
thanks for the mention and reminder, i always appreciate the effort your putting for the sake of crossfit community basically your the only one whos doing so, anyway i think the only thing that is a bit gimmicky is the solar feature i have seen many reviewers test it out in under a good or high uv they even left the watch for more than even 42 hours in a mid to high uv and the energy return is not what any consumer expect or desire, but still i think the enduro is far way superior or ahead of any watch i can even possible think of at-least for me, thanks again for all the effort your putting here champ. keep it going :)
Perfect review ! From a selling point of view the only thing is we are all Garmin users and we all understand perfectly the true difference between Garmin and other devices. But try to explain this to someone who never had a Garmin )))) ... they will run and buy the Apple's toy which is so powerfully called " Ultra" . Well , half of them , cause the other half are Android users.
That is such a true statement - completely. That's what I wanted to last 5 min to highlight - there's such a world of difference for what you get 'out of the box' with Garmin. Thanks for commenting
you are 100% correct on the 3rd parties needed to make the AW work. Even with all those apps on the AW the information is choppy at best. I think you are the only UA-cam to point all that out. Most of the information coming out from UA-camrs on the AWU us not as detailed and you can tell they are not as well versed as you with all the training metrics on all the watches. Kudos for the great review
Thanks so much! That really is very appreciated to hear. I definitely am confounded that Apple doesn’t add to their great sensors a great software package for actionable information on wellness, and then in-depth training analytics. thanks again.
Thank you for saying like it really is. :) in these "everyone is crazy of the new apple watch" times also! :D Apple just don't have enough for people who want to have more details on their performance, training load, recovery etc... I really dont know why they don't. Im sure they would have the resource to take it more seriously. I feel their watches are still (even with watch os 9 update and new running features) for people who want to track the basic activities. Yes, for example with Athlytic app you can fix some of these. But what if you would like to see e.g your estimated running times for basic distances. Or stress levels and how that affects your training or recovery. You simply cant do it no matter how many apps you dowload and maybe pay for. I don't say Garmin is perfect (eg lack of sportprofiles like football, icehockey or any team sports, app is a bit messy, calendar view is awful compared to Suunto calendar etc..) but I really think its like you said, they just have the best overall package and best details available if you need. Apple watch ultra might be an ultra smartwatch, but not sportwatch, at least yet.
Completely agree. They need to either partner with or purchase a large company to design a training software platform that would be integrated directly and would cover all facets. great points all around. Thanks!
@@fitgearhunter I think Apple would cover this if they just partner with you and maybe a dream team including like @DesFit, @Chase the Summit and @DC Rainmaker 😂 or even if they would watch some of your videos... 😅
Not going to argue your points. I hope Garmin continues to thrive so apple keeps improving. I’m going with the AW Ultra. Sooooo much stuff that garmin doesn’t have and it is cheaper. To each their own!
Totally agree! Let me know what you think! I would love to test it, but can’t swing it for now. It definitely is a cool, looking watch, I just hope that they advance the fitness features. It boggles my mind that they have such a powerful computer and excellent sensors, and they can’t just flat out buy a sports technology app company to write all of their software for wellness Guidance and training analytics
It is a perfect sports watch. Only two questions - why is this so damn expensive... (compared to Enduro "1") and is it accurate with the barometer high up in the mountains? Suunto 9 Peak is like zero to one meter wrong, but lacks in other aspects.
That’s a great question I haven’t had a chance to test the high altitude accuracy on the barometer, but I would think it would compete just fine with Suunto. And yes, it is definitely expensive! On the flipside, the whole package and software suite is offered on the 955, which is considerably less expensive at just $500!
Great video! Garmin is definitely leading the fitness/training aspect of the smart watch department. Apple needed to partner with a health and training team to create there own metrics like garmin to compete, instead they team up with diving company? Love the Apple Watch but for now I will just use my phone for smart stuff and my watch for training….and keeping track of time;-) haha
And to read it at your point, and keep coming back to what you said exactly. Why doesn’t Apple just either develop a comprehensive training and wellness advice platform on their own, or simply buy a couple to combine to do the same!? I do respect that they tend to not do things until they do them really well, but enough time has passed, and they could do this combination of aspects really well if they wanted to.
Your so right about the watch I have mine now for roughly 2 weeks and it's awesome love it.. but I agree why so expensive that's my concern but overall an amazing technology and tool.. love your videos by the way keep up the good work
Thanks so much! Yes, it has really grown on me quite a bit, I’m really enjoying it and did not know if I would because of the larger size. Thanks so much for commenting!
Hey! A lot of others have felt the same, but grew to feel fine about it. I would say if your wrist it 165mm or smaller it may feel too big, but above that you can likely adjust. My wrist is 176mm - not large - and it's fine. The velcro strap and lighter (titanium) body makes it feel perfectly comfortable, but I am used to large-ish sized (47mm) watches.
My second choice if you didn't would be the Epix and Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar - in that order probably. It's hard to argue with the significance of the Epix screen - but it depends on what watch you are coming from!
In terms of software and functionality and display quality Apple Watch Ultra is country miles ahead of Garmin. And then there is that thingy called battery life...
@@fitgearhunter :) That’s why I own Tactix Delta for the summer and AW7 for the winter. Question is which one should I upgrade first. The new Tactix 7 looks real nice. Don’t like the looks of Enduro very much-a bit childish
Very nice and interesting video. Thx for the nice work. 👍 One point though is the not so good accuracy of the HR monitor for such top tier watches by Garmin as compared to the AWU’s. Which is a bit disappointing at this price point. See the very informative video of the Quantified scientist. I however love the Garmin watches look and the Connect app ecosystem. Thx again and keep the good work. Cheers from France 🇫🇷👍🙏
Thanks so much and you still have a totally kick ass watch! The 955 is absolutely the baddest on the block at the price. It has basically everything. No real loss on your end.
I have the AW 6. I downloaded the newest watch OS. They have some new sport features. You can now view HR zones during an activity. Interestingly, or probably predictably, you can’t natively view the profiles you were in after the activity. You need to go to a third party app to do that. You are right FGH that those third party developers are often small outfits. One developer I corresponded seemed like a one person business. Apple has good hardware, but inadequate software to back that up.
They do have new sport features but I do believe that they are all the same but with different names. Whereas the Garmin measurements are different depending on the activity chosen I believe. I have both and they are both nice and both take a lot of readings but garmin gives you suggestions on what to do with the readings like recovery days, Apple doesn’t do that yet.
Haha no, that is true - I mean, it’s an amazing computer on your wrist, and it has awesome sensors, but that’s what confounds me and frustrates me - they don’t couple it with any analytical and comprehensive software package.
I'm so confused. I'd like a watch that can track my overall Fitness. That includes sleep tracking. The Apple series 8 seems to be much better at sleep tracking and has more accurate heart rate monitor. Then the Garmin seems to be better at everything else. The downside to the garmin is the watch is so big it's uncomfortable to wear the bed as a sleep tracker.
I acclimated to sleeping with the Epix. I thought there was no way I would. I bought a Fenix 7s later to sleep with and compare. Once I had both I eventually quit caring which one I wore to bed.
I agree with everything you've said. However, one thing not mentioned by most (and I know that beauty is in the etc) BUT INMHO the AWU is soooo UGLY. I would not want to wear it no matter how good it ever becomes. The Enduro is a very handsome watch.
Apple Ultra is not ultra with that battery life without a doubt. But it has fantastic HR sensor which is sometimes even better than Polar H10 according to The Quantified Scientist. It is also the best in sleep tracking. And also watchOS 9 update is a serious warning to Garmin but they're pretending to ignore. With OS 9.0 update, there is almost no reason to choose a Garmin over an Apple Watch other than battery life; better hr sensor, better sleep tracking, better and faster UI, better screen, better update support etc. Garmin has serious accuracy problems. It's sold with a sportswatch tag but even Huawei has far better OHR than Garmin, no need to mention Apple. Elevate 4 is garbage if you do any workout other than running. Training effect is useless if you do weight training for instance. And also their sleep tracking is mediocre. Garmin mocks the Apple Watch regarding battery life but i think they miss out the difference between sales amounts; Apple sells quintuple times of what Garmin sells.
I sold my Enduro 2 to get the Apple Watch Ultra 🤷🏼♂️ why? I sold it for 1:1 to get the Apple Watch so it is a good trade. Lets see what battery life will be
@@fitgearhunter I got it from o2. Ordered yesterday and 25h later it was there but also a lot of Apple stores have they in stock to get them in Germany. So far it is very good
What pushes most people to an Apple Watch is the vast majority things you mentioned people just don't care about. The Garmin is a pretty subpar watch for anything besides a workout watch. My Fenix 6 was cool for workout but for a daily use it really let me down. This is apples first stab at a true fitness watch and it's not awful. I am sure in the next 6 months the platform will become vastly more robust.
It is their first stab, so hopefully will advance from here. They need to add to the actual fitness side more profoundly to catch up in many areas though - I’m hoping they do since the hardware itself is so good.
I struggle to see the use of a smartwatch beyond being a fitness tracker. The smartwatch features seem to be easier just to use on your phone, and I use my phone too much as it is...I don't need to compound the habit with a watch. I do envy Apple's sensors though.
Sad that Apple has lost its vision on the watch. It has all the bells and whistles but just lacks a cohesive experience like garmin’s ecosystem. If companies like garmin or suunto to port their super app on the ultra… that would be a real game changer.
Your analysis of the Apple watch is just spot on and why I prefer Garmin. Great review!👍
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it.
I was looking for this comparison since the launch of ultra. You totally nailed it bro!!

@@fitgearhunter very well said I’m sending my Apple Watch ultra back and getting the enduro 2 just hope it’s not too big for my wrist
I have a wrist circumference of around 155 mm, will this watch suit me ?
Hey! I would think it would be a bit big honestly. BUT - I have found I can adjust to anything, so you may be able too. It may depend on what you are used to now. What are you wearing? You may want to go with the F7 or Epix. The Epix has a crazy brilliant screen.
@@fitgearhunter thank you for the reply. Currently I'm using Casio Protrek with a 45 mm screen size. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out Epix.
Great video! Would still love to see you review the ultra and how to get the most out of it in regards to training
Yes will work on a plan for that. Unfortunately they didn’t upgrade any true fitness aspects so not urgent yet. I do like the look over the basic AW a ton better though.
Wow what a review and comparison… smashing like and sub
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. Glad the review helped!
Nice videos. What do you think about the Garmin Venu 2 Plus? Are you going to do a video about it?
Hey! No - unfortunately not. I did a Venu 2 review and the Plus really just adds the extra voice activation and some phone features - not enough for me to merit a new review since none of the wellness/training features have changed - I have to limit what watches I can afford to buy based on that currently - maybe one day I can review them all!
@@fitgearhunterHope so!
Go for it!
@@fitgearhunter Thanks a lot! going to get it soon!
thanks for the mention and reminder, i always appreciate the effort your putting for the sake of crossfit community basically your the only one whos doing so, anyway i think the only thing that is a bit gimmicky is the solar feature i have seen many reviewers test it out in under a good or high uv they even left the watch for more than even 42 hours in a mid to high uv and the energy return is not what any consumer expect or desire, but still i think the enduro is far way superior or ahead of any watch i can even possible think of at-least for me, thanks again for all the effort your putting here champ. keep it going :)
Thanks for commenting
in watch face Garmin Enduro 2 can we set this widget on fenix 6x pro? because i can't find on connect iq
you are 100% correct on the 3rd parties needed to make the AW work.
@@rsgt2023 haha - those guys are on a different level! Honored to be even mentioned alongside them - thank you!
Haha exactly! Thanks for saying. Agree with your points all around. Thanks!
Great video.
Hey, thanks so much!
I wanna get the enduro 2 but I, afraid it might be too big I have medium size wrist
Haha silly little thingy. Def ahead on the smartwatch front. No question there
@@fitgearhunter :) That’s why I own Tactix Delta for the summer and AW7 for the winter. Question is which one should I upgrade first. The new Tactix 7 looks real nice. Don’t like the looks of Enduro very much-a bit childish
@@tonyg3091 yes I love the look of the T7. I've reached out to Garmin to see if it is even possible. Who knows
Very nice and interesting video. Thx for the nice work. 👍
One point though is the not so good accuracy of the HR monitor for such top tier watches by Garmin as compared to the AWU’s. Which is a bit disappointing at this price point. See the very informative video of the Quantified scientist. I however love the Garmin watches look and the Connect app ecosystem.
Thx again and keep the good work.
Cheers from France 🇫🇷👍🙏
can't afford this. plus my school has no 20% discount on this one. Got a Forerunner 955 but cool review.
Haha Hunter, you're definitely not an Apple fanboy lol 😅. That's for sure. I like your well stated points though
An extra $100.00 for the extra wriststrap? Oh come on Garmin!!
I know, I know - but the UltraFit is pretty awesome, and the silicone is a good main-stay
Samsung and Apple are fitness tracker. Garmin is for training.
Yes - for sure
I agree with everything you've said. However, one thing not mentioned by most (and I know that beauty is in the etc) BUT INMHO the AWU is soooo UGLY. I would not want to wear it no matter how good it ever becomes. The Enduro is a very handsome watch.
Haha true! But I do like it WAY better than the current AW. I can't stand the all glass, rounded-edges look now
Apple Ultra is not ultra with that battery life without a doubt.
Lets see what battery life will be
Yes do share once you get it! Would love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks!
@@fitgearhunter I will Do!
@@fitgearhunter Today the watch came and it looks really good! I think i made the right decision to sell my Enduro and buying the Ultra.
@@foetor nice! So happy for you. Where did you order from to get it so quickly?? Hope you really like it
@@fitgearhunter I got it from o2. Ordered yesterday and 25h later it was there but also a lot of Apple stores have they in stock to get them in Germany. So far it is very good
I think garmin should use this in there infomercial… and pay you
Haha I wish!
All good and fine -- apples's own 'ultra' marketing for their new so-so sporty smartwatch is fishy, though.
I am sure every product will improve in 6 months. Let’s review what we can use now.
@@Chris-gq8ev yes completely. Well stated points - agree all around. Alllll those great sensors - no great analysis
Sad that Apple has lost its vision on the watch. It has all the bells and whistles but just lacks a cohesive experience like garmin’s ecosystem. If companies like garmin or suunto to port their super app on the ultra… that would be a real game changer.
Apples watch still has to be an apple watch. It's a jack of all trades. It's not a dedicated sports watch, it's a smart watch first
