  • Here they are. The basics of using spool caps effectively with your sewing machine. I have seen a lot of damage caused by poor thread delivery into sewing machines. Using the correct spool cap effectively can reduce the chances of damage and poor stitching. Please LIKE this video and SUBSCRIBE to see more videos and to support this channel.

Wow! Who knew! Been sewing for years and always thought the cap was just to keep the spool from sliding off. Thanks for the info!

Wow, thank you so much. Now I know it was the problem. It bent my needle and it was making tension real bad

So that's probably why my top thread keeps breaking. My spool cap is a lot bigger than my spool.
Until today I thought its only function was to hold the spool in place.
    Thanks for this.

Great video, so good to know the function of the spool cap. Another question - how tight do you make the spool? Do you allow it to turn or put the cap on so it's tight and the spool doesn't spin/turn? Thanks!

Thank you. The spool cap doesn't need to be tight against the spool.

What about the smallest one you have there? I think it's smaller than any spool, And what direction does it go on?

Good question. Those tiny spool caps were produced from a few companies. They are intended to be used with mini king spools of thread (small cones), using them horizontally with the base of the spool to the right and the open end left, toward the entrance of the machine. The cap is intended to be inserted, point first, into the hole of the top of the cone until it is flush up against it. That being said, Mini king spools work best vertically with the thread exiting the spool upward to a thread guide before entering the machine. I hope that is a clear explanation. I recently bought a Singer sewing machine and it comes with a big spool cap and a very small one, no middle size. I use the bigger one becouse the small one I figured it doesn’t do the job but I wonder what is it’s purpose then? Also, could using the big one cause tension issues? (Although that’s what came with the machine, I don’t have spools that are very close to that size)

Thank you for this video! One question...on the spools with only one "end", are those the ones you'd use the little gray cap with?
