The difference is Andrew is fucked up but he doesn't want to appear fucked up he's tryna hold on to his humanity but Ashley keeps getting them into situations where his humanity is constantly shattered because he feels he has to choose hee. I like to view this video as a retelling of ashley and Andrew’s relationship where he goes through a bunch of his love interest like they’re nothing before finding ashley and falling in love with her proper, as he’s met his match in terms of manipulation. It may not be what was intended, but that’s what i get from it, and it’s actually pretty cool. We mostly feel sorry or even identified (that's my case) by Andrew, a nervous, smart, kind, anxious boy which falls mentally with the past of the game. The thing i mostly like is that none of the options in the game feel out of the place, they all would be something that the characters would do, for their kindness or their mentally breakdown and anxious

Oh, he's letting himself be manipulated so that he can be exempt of blame for anything he does. Like, just look at the beginning, where they go investigate the music. Ashley asks him if he wants to go see what's happening and he goes "no, but if YOU went I'd follow you" or something close like that, pushing the narrative that he has no say in it when he very much does just so that he can convince himself that if anything goes wrong, it's Ashley's fault. They both are kind of manipulating the other so that they stay each other's center of the world, and frankly, I think that painting Andrew as ONLY a victim is a disservice to his character.

But if you look at the back story of things and the way the story progresses, Andrew was a normal person with a decent personality, yet he was charged with taking care of his psychopathic manipulative sister which I would assume, slowly made him grow more insane and psychopathic like his sister. Also in some of the backstory, many (if not all) of his relationships were messed up because of Ashley, so I would say Andrew is indeed a victim in many cases due to Ashley, though to call him a absolute victim would be debatable and probably wrong. That's why I also said redemption arc, because he needs to redeem his actions and to break free from Ashley's hold too.
How I interpret the relationship: Ashley: the manipulator and the neglected one - Since her parents pretty much neglected her and Andrew took care of her more (and also the fact that her friends only really talked to her bc of Andrew), she views her own brother like a savior that must be by her side 24/7 or she fears of losing him. She doesn’t actually feel attracted to him but flirts and seduces him because she knows he likes it and he’ll stick around because of it. Andrew: the victim and the needy one - because of Ashley’s situation of being clingy to him and overprotective, he can’t really find a girlfriend (or really talk to any girls) without Ashley getting jealous and turning the whole wrongdoings on him, saying that Andrew may abandon her later. Because of his ‘loneliness’ he just ends up liking Ashley romantically in the end to which Ashley uses to her advantage to make sure he never leaves.
