Just went back and listened to El's verse on Crown. Holy shit! It blew me away when I paid attention to it. He was saying that when you become a mindless pawn you can't become a king. Like literally, you can't expect to be rule something (have a crown) if you're holding up somebody else's wishes first (holding what's holding you down). What a crazy verse.
Thank you Myke for mentioning Death Grips. Before the album dropped, Killer Mike had tweeted simply #DeathGrips . I had always thought El was one of Death Grips few influences outside of themselves. Then it felt like Death Grips turned around and influenced El-P. All Due Respect's, Oh My Darling, even part of Angel Duster felt like it had some DG influence.
groalerable I didn't attribute the sound to Death Grips. The production is still very much El-P, but like any artist, he hones his sound by listening to the competition, and doing his best to replicate those sounds in his own unique way.
This album is INSANE! There is literally no real criticism I can possibly think of when it comes to this album. This & GKMC are some of my favourite Hip-Hop albums ever.
This album is crazy. I've been listening to it on my headphones, in the car, on the computer. I'm at a loss for words. These two guys fit each other so well...I...I I'm gonna go listen to this again
Didn't EL-P make the beats for that Cannibal Ox album too? The Cold Vein? Man, Pigeon off that record is one of my favourite tracks in hiphop, period. Whoever's saying he's a one trick pony needs to listen to that thing!
This review is the reason why I went and got this album,It cranks from start to finish and Kinge was spot on you might as well turn the volume up and leave it there, great lyrics and great beats overall great album and this damn sure bumps in the whip in my Feefo voice lls
One of the best rap duos of all time IMO, it's not crazy to put them up against Mobb Deep, Black Star, Gang starr, Method Man & Redman, EPMD, UGK, OutKast (still my favorite tough)
Yunis Dhallin Madvillain isn't really comparable since for most of the cuts it was one rapper and madlib was just producing (except for a couple Quas features)
I just got around to getting the album Friday. COMPLETELY blew me away in every way, shape, and form. To be honest, I was just expecting another fun, almost comical version of the first album, but they went in the PERFECT direction with this one making it darker, but still giving you the lighter tracks in between to let the listeners breath a couple minutes. And what Myke said @ 21:00 is what makes RTJ so special. Just an instant classic album if you ask me.
It's a perfect album. Very few of those exist in my experience: MJ's Thriller, Portishead's Dummy, Prince's Purple Rain, Wu-Tang's 36 Chambers. For me the important take away re RTJ is that they have 2 undisputably perfect albums (2 and 4) with 3 being very close.
Matthew Ferguson Great comment bro, was gonna leave the same thing but you beat me too it lol. That clipping album is straight crack bro, if any album is ahead of its time its that one. As far as being ahead of what everyone else is dropping that project is light years ahead of them including RTJ2. The RTJ2 tape is a all around better project and is beating out the clipping album slightly for my favorite album of the year. Peep it out, you won't be disappointed fam trust me
Great review, just saw them live last night in Minneapolis. Holy fucking shit is all I gotta say. I'm surprised no one made mention of the "I’ll beat you to a pulp no fiction, Tarantino flow new Jules and Vincent" line though.
My top 10 of the year so far: 10: FKA Twigs - LP1 9: NehruvianDOOM - Self-Titled 8: Mick Jenkins - The Waters 7: FlyLo - You're Dead 6: Vince Staples - Hell Can Wait EP 5: Ratking - So It Goes 4: Freddie Gibbs & Mablib - Piñata 3: clipping. - CLPPNG 2: Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo 1: Run The Jewels - RTJ 2 Honorable mentions: Open Mike Eagle - Dark Comedy The Underachievers - Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium Hail Mary Mallon - Bestiary Statik Selektah - What Goes Around I honestly didn't like YG, Big K.R.I.T., Sage Francis nor Busdriver albums. Kendrick is probably gonna be in my top 3 though. btw. nice review, as always.
Deepak Parmar Actually, I haven't got my hands on that mixtape, but I'll most definately go look it up. I saw DEHH made a review of it a while back too.
Loved this project! In my top three this year with Strange Journey Volume 3 by Cunninlynguists and Cocaine Pinata by MadGibbs. Shout out to Dark Comedy as well by Open Mike Eagle. Great review, we appreciate the work you guys put out!
This is why I love America. Nobody in this mentions that Killer Mike is black or El-P is white. It's just amazing music, regardless of race or creed. We are the huddled masses.
Love this album so much that this deserves to be album of the year BY FAR! Glad that I bought this album and the last album too from last year. Love these two duo rappers right there. So solid!
I can't even say that the interview made the like it more, because these guys Are on the look out for what's genre pushing and to say it's really great. In case for those saying they catered their review to them.
For your next ask@deadendhiphop segment, i havent got twitter What are your thoughts about J Cole releasing his new album with no singles and such little promo, being one of the first major rappers to do so, do you think singles are still needed in order for an artist to be successfull ?
When I finished this album I immediately listened to it again at least twice. First time that's happened since good kid maad city. Great job El-P and Mike. Album of the year.
This album is unquestionably a 5 mic album. No doubt, however I like the first album just a bit better. I preferred the beats on the previous Run the Jewels.
For me Killer Mike is like tyson with that right hook which was just a devastating punch that destroyed his opposition. Then El-P gives you that Ali jab that is lightning fast and garners so much thought in his opponents because of the speed and fluidity. I mean these guys are like McGuire and Sosa (forget the steroids for a bit) hitting homer after homer throughout the whole album. Unbelievable.
Myke: Diana Coffee is a side band...El's girl is in the side band...but they main dude is Foxygen's drummer i believe. I thought the same thing at first.
If you are referring to the Grammy's Run the Jewels 2 came out too late to be considered for the upcoming 2015 Grammy's, but it can be nominated for 2016.
first time i heard this album i instantly thought it was amazing, definitely in my top 3 albums of the year contemplating it being number 1 spot, so many ill verses. personally i think it's better then rtj 1,still listening to it constantly since the day it dropped.
Good to see Feefo really starting to appreciate EL-P, I know he generally ain't a big underground rap so to see him think this is the best album of the year is awesome!
10:22 Kinge had me rollin soo hard in this! lol. Beezy was like they didn't want to be around my sick ass and i don't blame them lol. Get well soon man. Big fan of Zack de la Rocha as well. Was happy to see he made an appearance on this album. Great review.
I saw RTJ last week in Portland. I've never been to a hiphop concert with more energy, EVER! Some people tried to start a mosh and crowd surf, it was pretty epic. Despot is fucking hilarious too!!! Album of the year hands down!
I like the actual (in the studio together) collaboration but the songs on here didn't grab me much but it's a decent listen for someone that's a huge fan of this type of music.
This review made me want to listen to the album again for at least the 15th time. Had to look up the lyrics to Angel Duster cuz of the first line of the chorus - 'toast to the noones, nod to the masters' - I kept hearing it as the exact opposite - 'toast to the known ones, nod to the masses' - this album trips me the fuck out!
Niles Rodgers to actually answer your question, the production can put some people off, as its more gritty and experimental and loud than most shit out there. If I might ask, what exactly about the beats put you off?
***** Niles Rodgers In the scope of more traditional hip hop, it is. A Joey Bada$$ type or KRS-One would easily get swallowed in the loud industrial grime that is RTJ2. Could you imagine anyone else making something like All Due Respect in the mainstream? As for Niles, I'd try shabazz palaces to warm you up to experimental stuff. Its pretty psychedelic but it bumps like a more traditional album. Also (and Death Grips comes to mind pretty easily) the nature of experimental music in general is that there's 2 stages to listening it: Figuring out what the fuck is actually going on (because experimental beats are either heavily layered, reqiring multiple listens to pinpoint every sound, or they use unconventional sounds/time signatures/etc.) and then finally hearing it when you know what to expect and forming an opinion on it. This reqires multiple listens. For RTJ, like maybe 2 or 3 depending, pretty straightforward experimental. Someone like DG though needs not only multiple listens, but literal time to process what you just heard, as its pretty daunting for its abrasive sounds and the loudness and how primal the band's sound is. That might be RTJ for you right now. I wouldnt blame you, as RTJ is loud and in your face, kinda like DG except not trying to scare the fuck out of you. But listen again once or twice (at a reasonable volume; Jeopardy and the first album's title track will make your fucking ears bleed if you dont lol) and hopefully youll realize fast paced schizophrenia is really just the rush of adrenaline that is Jamie and Mikey telling every wack rapper to go fuck themselves over beats that sound like a big fuck you to anyone who tries to steal the goddamn throne away from them. Becuase that's pretty much the unofficial motto of RTJ. TL;DR Listen to moar RTJ and more experimental. Id recommend Shabazz Palaces, but if you dont see yourself putting the time in to really get a feel for it, then its not for you.
The entire El - P verse on Crown describes men being tricked into war. Really good verse, don't understand how not one review talks about it and is overlooked by Mike's verse, which is almost always discussed. Its good, but not as poetic and refined as El - P's verse.
what a shock..myke loves it..ANYWAY I hope u guys got more videos coming..i know u lot do hella other ish..just dont forget the reviews is your bread and butter. #peace
Myke C-Town it's amazing how ppl forget y'all have 9 to 5's and also the fact that ken was in the hospital which he mentioned...anyhow keep up the good work!
Myke C-Town in terms of the channel obviously..i aint tryna give you guys a hard time..obviously you have jobs/lives etc that goes without saying..all im saying as a fan of the channel is more content the better. simple as.
T. Amazin Iam RiSkO It's beyond ridiculous that instead of just watching the review, the comments are bullshit like this. Instead of discussions about how much people liked or disliked the album, it's unbased complaints about our personal lives (which none of you know) and insults. Oh, but if we say "fuck y'all, we do this for free, fuck you, pay me" we'd be assholes, right? We do this because we enjoy it and none of you pay a single dime for it. I really wish you could understand how insane you sound complaining that, due to real life shit, we aren't putting out more free videos for you to enjoy....for free. But oh well. I guess I should expect this type of attitude by now.
Killer Mike's giving you some shit man,
El-P's giving you some shit man,
...the shit, man.
G. Willikers Ken - 2014
El-P has the verse of the year with Crown. Gives me chills every time.
Yea I feel like people overlook El on Crown and just focus on Mike's verse, they were both amazing tho
It's up there, but I have to agree De La Rocha's verse was the best on the project.
***** Thanks for the valuable input, this really made me change my way of seeing things.
What a crazy verse.
miguelthomas274 There were many other dope verses on the album, but this one takes the... crown.
YoDawgoneeleven I missed that tweet! That's really interesting.
Myke C-Town I asked them about it in their Reddit AMA but I was too late, they were already gone.
"please don't try to attribute my sound to someone else. i been honing my sound for 20 years. check the history."
-El-p
groalerable I didn't attribute the sound to Death Grips. The production is still very much El-P, but like any artist, he hones his sound by listening to the competition, and doing his best to replicate those sounds in his own unique way.
YoDawgoneeleven he said that in a direct reply to spin review that said death grips influenced rtj2.
Angle duster is legendary. That song gives me chills.
Run the Jewels 2 is straight crack, from track 1 to 11,
between RTJ2 and Freddie Gibbs: Pinata.
These are two albums of the year for me.
Can't agree more
Rtj and freddie both dropped fire again in 2020
This album is INSANE!
There is literally no real criticism I can possibly think of when it comes to this album.
This & GKMC are some of my favourite Hip-Hop albums ever.
"Bunches and bunches, punches get thrown until you frontless!"
Oodles and oodles, bang bullets at suckas' noodles!
Sami Alamien "Last album voodoo proved that we was fuckin' brutal!"
"I’m talking crazy, half past the clock is cuckoo"
that's one of my fav tracks of the album, that beat was fucking nuts and the last verse.. i don't even have words!!
This album is crazy. I've been listening to it on my headphones, in the car, on the computer. I'm at a loss for words. These two guys fit each other so well...I...I
I'm gonna go listen to this again
Appreciate it
This is my favorite DEHH review.
Didn't EL-P make the beats for that Cannibal Ox album too? The Cold Vein? Man, Pigeon off that record is one of my favourite tracks in hiphop, period. Whoever's saying he's a one trick pony needs to listen to that thing!
"My fist in your face is fuckin Folger's" I think about that line in school all the time and lose it.
Benj Ikeda Why?? It's pretty simple
Threat That's the reason
my mom doesnt let me drink coffee
I think this is the album of the year! El-P and Killer Mike compliment each other well. Lyricism at it's finest. As always...great review, fellas!
That rtj3 tho....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If J. Cole died and went to heaven and learned to rap from jesus, he still couldn't make something as good as this.
Mohammed Huh?
@Saksham Airee because he's just a blacker Drake
@Saksham Airee my point being they may rap but they ain't hip-hop
Y’all on drugs
I like J. Cole but YES! This comment is hella accurate lmfao 😂😂😂
This is the most positive DEHH review
math uu their review for piñata was posting as well
DDFH

One of the best rap duos of all time IMO, it's not crazy to put them up against Mobb Deep, Black Star, Gang starr, Method Man & Redman, EPMD, UGK, OutKast (still my favorite tough)
ninetythree company flow
ninetythree Madvillain?
Yunis Dhallin Madvillain isn't really comparable since for most of the cuts it was one rapper and madlib was just producing (except for a couple Quas features)
KIller Mike and El-P have pretty much dominated hip hop for the last 3 years
I've never seen yall get this pumped about a project...gotta listen now.
Ridiculous. I dunno how I'm gonna do my top 25 this year. This album fucked me up!!!
They were one week away from having the fan base coming after them with pitchforks for not releasing this review sooner.
Great review guys! Get well soon beezy if you're still sick!
RTJ3 this year man !
firrrrrre 🔥
I just got around to getting the album Friday. COMPLETELY blew me away in every way, shape, and form. Pinata and RTJ2 alone made 2014 amazing
10/10 album for me. No competition for album of the year, it's so far ahead of what everyone else is doing
Have you checked out Clipping's newest album?
Matthew Ferguson Great comment bro, was gonna leave the same thing but you beat me too it lol. That clipping album is straight crack bro, if any album is ahead of its time its that one. "I'LL JAKE THE SNAKE EM, DDT EM IN MAUSOLEUMS" that has to be THE MOST RAWEST MONSTROUS SINGLE BAR I'VE HEARD IN 2014. Get em Mike !!!
"Intelligent Hip Hop"
Official new Hip Hop subgenre
I got goosebumps hearing the album open with Mike as soon as the Jeopardy beat dropped. Best album I've heard all year, hands down.
El wasn't as energetic? Did y'all hear his flow on Lie Cheat Steal?
albinosnowman12 for real
killer mike said it himself, "run the jewels is murder mayhem melodic music"
This is how records should be reviewed. You guys are fucking amazing.
Haven't been able to listen to hardly anything else since RTJ2 released. It's really, really good.
Worth the wait man. You guys genuinely love the music. REPRESENT! RTJ2 AOTY.
feefo's take on mike's "sociopolitical views" is fantastic
Great review, just saw them live last night in Minneapolis. Holy fucking shit is all I gotta say.
I'm surprised no one made mention of the "I’ll beat you to a pulp no fiction, Tarantino flow new Jules and Vincent" line though.

Jhene Aiko - Souled Out is a hon. ment. too
WHERE THE FUCK IS SEARCHING SYLVAN. BEST MIXTAPE OF THIS YEAR HANDS DOWN. BETTER THAN THE WATER[S], AND THATS SAYING SOMETHING.
Deepak Parmar Actually, I haven't got my hands on that mixtape, but I'll most definately go look it up. I saw DEHH made a review of it a while back too.
***** Thanks, man, who else do you have in your top 5 of the year?
You only listen to hip hop related stuff?
Loved this project! In my top three this year with Strange Journey Volume 3 by Cunninlynguists and Cocaine Pinata by MadGibbs. Shout out to Dark Comedy as well by Open Mike Eagle. Great review, we appreciate the work you guys put out!

i dont normally listen to hip hop at all but i love rtj2 :D good review guys
This is why I love America. Nobody in this mentions that Killer Mike is black or El-P is white. It's just amazing music, regardless of race or creed. We are the huddled masses.
Best Album this year!! Great project!! Been waiting for this. Thanks guys for this review.
El-P's verses on "Lie, Cheat, Steal", though. Absolutely crazy. They joke about it but it's true, he really isn't rated like he deserves to be.
im ready for when lupe drops his album+review
Finally, I was so hyped about this album. I was waiting to hear your thoughts. Thanks for posting
When is the Cadillactica review coming?
Im sure they'll get to it. Feefo is a big KRIT fan...hell be damned if they didnt do a review lol

great review, guys. could not agree more! saw them live last week and shit was nuts.
I can't even say that the interview made the like it more, because these guys Are on the look out for what's genre pushing and to say it's really great. In case for those saying they catered their review to them.

I agree completely this album is fucking godlike. Great reviews guys.
When I finished this album I immediately listened to it again at least twice. First time that's happened since good kid maad city. Great job El-P and Mike. Album of the year.
I dont know what I was more excited for, the album or the review

Jewl Running in Madison tonight!
both albums are hard...
Myke: Diana Coffee is a side band...El's girl is in the side band...but they main dude is Foxygen's drummer i believe. I thought the same thing at first.
This album will be recognized as a classic years from now.
For me it's the best hip-hop album since Cancer 4 Cure (which I consider a masterpiece). Can't stop listening to it!
I wonder who is going to get album of the year? Freddie Gibbs & Madlib or El-P & Killer Mike...both of them or incredible.
Marlin? You mean Madlib right?
T wrocks nope, this amazing new producer called marlin
Odeonremix Dope name for a producer
***** nah thats a name for fgts
If you are referring to the Grammy's Run the Jewels 2 came out too late to be considered for the upcoming 2015 Grammy's, but it can be nominated for 2016.

The review was really good, great job. Now hopefully we can get a shady XV review?
You guys should review Cadillactica or Shady XV (Disc 1) whenever yall get the chance.
kinge look like uncle phil in this video
Awesome review. I think everyone can pretty much agree that RTJ2 is fucking amazing, every line that was said was just an "ohhhhhhhh!!" moment for me.
I saw RTJ last week in Portland. I've never been to a hiphop concert with more energy, EVER! Some people tried to start a mosh and crowd surf, it was pretty epic. Despot is fucking hilarious too!!! Album of the year hands down!
Mike's first verse on "Close Your Eyes" is brutal!
them boys have some fun ! love the enthusiasm...
Beezy's eyes look freakish here. He really want feeling well

Robert Munro its fuckin out
I like the actual (in the studio together) collaboration but the songs on here didn't grab me much but it's a decent listen for someone that's a huge fan of this type of music.
You didn't like Angel Duster or All Due Respect? Hmm.. Well ok
The transition from All due respect to Love again is ba-NANAS!
You guys should release reviews for Black Milks new album, Rass Kass & Apollo Brown album together, and that new KRIT.
I had to drop a couple hundred on some headphones before I allowed myself to listen to this album
This review made me want to listen to the album again for at least the 15th time. Had to look up the lyrics to Angel Duster cuz of the first line of the chorus - 'toast to the noones, nod to the masters' - I kept hearing it as the exact opposite - 'toast to the known ones, nod to the masses' - this album trips me the fuck out!
is it weird that i didnt really run the jewels 1 or 2? lyrics were great but the production put me off for the most part
ok....
Niles Rodgers to actually answer your question, the production can put some people off, as its more gritty and experimental and loud than most shit out there. If I might ask, what exactly about the beats put you off?

i know you guys saw the shady XV cypher and i was wondering if y'all were going to review it like last time for the shady 2.0 cypher
Amazing review
this was great and all but we're in need of that cadillactica review
They've already done a Cadillactaca review
what a shock..myke loves it..ANYWAY I hope u guys got more videos coming..i know u lot do hella other ish..just dont forget the reviews is your bread and butter. #peace
T. Amazin No, our jobs are our bread and butter. Feefo said that at the beginning.

Great review
If there is a Run the Jewels 3 next year I would fucking cry.. We need more shit like Run the Jewels.
