    graph inequalities, find points of intersection, plug stuff in.
    certainly there are lots of small steps to do all of this that makes it confusing.

    the convention i am used to is:
    if it is less than or EQUAL, greater than or EQUAL, use a solid line
    if it is only less than, or greater than, use a dashed line

    @drako600 yes, as pointed out in the annotations and by 10000 other people. thanks though

    you would do the exact same thing.
    the inequalities would be different (i assume) producing a region that would have a minimum value.
    but basically you do 100% the same thign

    For the third time this semester, you will be the reason I pass my test tomorrow. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to find the point where the lines intersect. But after this, it all clicked! Thanks very much.

    @TheAllboutwin gotta to agree with you to a very large degree. at the same time, i did have teachers who were not the best. however, i think many teachers deserve way more respect than they get. i mean, most are not there for the money (it stinks), but because they care.

    I love how you explain graphing equations so much differently and more complicated than every other math person on here causing me to be more confused than I previously was about it. It's just so convenient, ya know, like when someone's trying to study for an exam, looking for a good explanation on that thing they just don't understand. I still haven't found it. thanks for this waste of time. =D

    I did linear programming last year, and although the teacher didnt explain it well, I managed an A and got a good grade for Alegbra 2. Lately I've been reviewing for ATCs and I realized that just getting by and memorizing stuff isnt how to get thru high school. Now I'm going back thru, praticing, actually learning and you've helped me just so much. one huge thank you!

    @joepglass there is a lot of blame to go around, but it is ultimately the students issue to learn. one has to learn to teach one's own self. if one can not learn something (or at least try to) on his/her own, they are doomed in life to be a drone. so many people want to be spoon fed everything: just show me how to do the problem, do not make me think about it

    Hello you added wrongly on using the (80,160) coordinates....that is supposed to be the maximum point because when you add 3200 and 4800 you get 8000 not 7000 8:44

    patrickjmt, you should do a video on the simplex method if you ever have the time. sure, the graphical method works, but its really limited as in i can only solve problems with a couple variables, plus i have to graph the thing by hand. simplex method is pretty effortless once you figure out the rhythm to it.

    Man I love this stuff. My teachers try to push all the magical floaty teary eyed abstract BS around and then give you ONE problem to practice on without even telling you how to do it. This is straight mechanics. LOVE IT. I can do that BS stuff later, right now its time for business :D

    how do you do a linear regression problem if it has 3 variables because this problem i'm stuck on is giving general labor, machine time, and technical labor required to make one bicycle and then it gives the amount of hours spent on each one per week. So, i don't know how to model the constraints.

    @ScumbagRS5 i worked 40 hours a week in a restaurant and took 18 hours many semesters, so tell me all about it. no free rides here. and complaining about an accent of a teacher in college is just silly (not that you are complaining, but for those who do) . school is hard, yes. work is hard, yes. but so many in the world have it so much worse i just always thought: what do i really have to bitch and cry about? answer: nothing.

  • @OliverWilliamson1985
    @OliverWilliamson1985 14 років тому

    I solved this intuitively in 20 seconds. You need to have maximum corn but you also don't want to leave any land spare. first guess was 100 corn, that meant that there would be 120 hours left for oats, this only equals 220 acres - so wastefull. next guess was drop corn to 80, this requires 160 hours leaving 80 for oats, and 160 plus 80 equals 240, ie no waste, therefor optimum. 20 seconds, maybe 30 tops. although i do apreciate that with more complex numbers it would need written calculation

  • @xLeggitx

    perfect. I understand it now, but I still have one question; when you plugged 0 for x and y in x+y=240 and 2x+y=320, did you use 0 because thats what x and y were equal or greater than or did you just choose them as a test point?
    For example, if this problem was the same except that x was = or less than 5 and y was = or less than 3, would you plug 5 and 3 into the problem, or could you choose any number to plug into the equations?
    Thanks!

    When you use the points (80,160) to calculate profit using the inequality 40x + 30y the answer is $8000 and not $7000.

    Patrick great vids!!
    A question pls, if I have 3 equations subject to, and 3 variables x1, x2 and x3 will this same rule apply as your explanation?
    It is basically adding more equations subjected to the example you did as you did only with 2 equations.
    Thanks a ton!!

  • @GlowMagik
    @GlowMagik 13 років тому

    @GlowMagik Thinking about it, i guess you could work through the constraints - dividing x or y by the time available, and the lowest x result would be your boundary point on the x axis and the lowest y result on the y axis. Is that correct?

    could someone pls solve this problem? i have issues with it thanks Farmer has 240 acres of land. He can plant corn and oats. When planting corn, his profit is 40 USD per acre of corn. When planting oats, his profit is 30 USD per acre of oats. Farmer has 320 hours of labor available. Corn takes 2 hours of labor per acre, oats requires 1 hour of labor per acre. Use the linear programming approach. How many acres of each (corn and oats) should farmer plant in order to maximize his profit?
