When they say striker they are really talking about is attacking mentality so wingers (as well as wing backs) are also considered strikers. It’s easy to get mixed up only thinking of positions

If Messi didn't have an ego, then he wouldn't try and make insane solo runs against whole teams on his own. He Wouldn't make impossible curving shots outside the box into the top corner if he was just a pure "Team Player". So you are wrong, Messi doesn't contradict ego's philosophy.
