Great content Hannah. When I played competitive golf I only used to only work on short game and that paid off . I personally hate working on my swing and I could never focus on the practice tee . So I would go play and work on shots when I played when score mattered. It works for me but not everyone.
I’m a high handicapper (18), but I’ve been steadily lowering it over the last few months. I did it by noting my troubles during a round and cataloging them. That way, when I have a range day, I can pick out a couple of areas to work on from that catalog and do some virtual UA-cam lessons to get tips to help me work through them at the range. I also noticed that my handicap dropped when I started focusing on my game from 75 yards in. I would honestly say that made the biggest difference.
Also, most have a FAVORITE club … but most would improve by working on their WEAKEST club (to build confidence in it) ☝🏻 Another (along the lines of hitting different shots) is ALTERNATING shots … hit a fade, then a draw, then a low shot, etc What was it Lee Trevino said? “If you hit it left it’s a draw; if you hit it right it’s a fade; if you hit it straight it’s a miracle” 😂
The amount of people you see machine gunning 150 balls at the range with zero purpose. Yardages wise I like to know the average total, then the true distance i.e whats a flush then whats my shortest mishit helps with negotiating missing short into bunkers etc or flying green into an OB
Despite my highish handicap, I’m actually better at putting and short game than I am with fairway shots . . . but then I’ve practiced my short game A LOT! 😉
You can practice putting on a carpet at home, I’m sure you can find 15 minutes somewhere. If you have even a small lawn you can practice chipping, if necessary with a waffle ball.
Every friday noon I get from my local tournament thinking "gosh I need practice putting more". Then I go practice, end up hitting everything but putter for two hours, and repeat the same next friday.
I used to be a 15 handicap until I quit playing around 10 years ago. I got back into the game last year and spent the entire time practicing. If you watch me in practice you'd think I was a single digit golfer. When I started playing this year I am all over the place. I shoot a few birdies and pars along with double and triple bogies. To Hannah’s point you need to practice like you play. Great video.
Hannah point is great , also look at vision 54 site, they look at , physical , technical ,metal, emotional, social, spirt of the game , or read their books , pia nilsson and lynn marriot
Great tips and love how practical all your videos are for us lesser golfers. One thing I would love to see you discuss is range balls. Do you change how you practice when the ball doesnt fly as far because its not the ball you use on course - the course I am a member at has balls that fly shorter because of the limited space. Sorry if that is a dumb question
I wouldn’t change how I practice but I work out how far shorter the balls go so then I can still practice the right swing lengths/clubs but to different yardages. So my 85yard swing may go 70 but I am still getting reps in practicing that swing length. Hope that makes sense?
Thanks Hannah...golf is so easy !!! some great ideas and suggestions for my practice time... I'm getting quite good at lag putting down the hall carpet at home 😃
@@loyckfiona No. Playing balls from bare muddy worn areas around the green are not going to help you. Playing on worn bumpy patchy greens with worm casts is not gonna help you. Playing out of bare hard stoney bunkers is not going to help you. Playing on sodden wet fairways is not going to help you. Playing on damaged poorly kept winter greens is not gonna help you. Playing from divoted fairways is not going to help you. Putting on a Par 3 green that is soft and has numerous pitch marks is not going to help you. All these will make playing golf much much harder leading to you losing strokes becoming annoyed, agitated and not enjoy the game. Golf is meant to be played on decent dense firm short grass conditions.
@@robertgray1756 Rubbish. Golf is hard precisely because it is played in a variety of conditions. Lush, perfect grass. Baked out grass during a drought. Muddy mess during 2024 in the UK. Wind. Cold. It certainly is enjoyable to practice at a fantastic facility, so nothing wrong with that, but it won't make you a better golfer other than you may practice more.
@@wadesworld6250 no your talking rubbish. Golf was invented to play on grass like I said. If pros' won't play on poor conditions don't expect amateurs to have to endure poor playing conditions. You were a beautiful little girl I'm off hope scratch this year good weather would help on range I always play my course a few times do 90percent on putting and chipping my weak points what do you think really enjoyed
I’m glad I subscribed to your channel. Such a cutie. Good golf content, too. I can definitely pinpoint my good days, and bad days down to short game. I’m a really good driver of the ball, and my ball striking is pretty good, in general. On good days, I’ll shoot around par, or under. But, on bad days, it literally comes down to NOT getting up n down, or NOT holing close birdie putts. It’s very frustrating.
Most of the guys I play with, hit range balls for 95% of the time and the other time chipping and putting. I do the opposite. The better I have become at hitting wedges, I've noticed that I pure my irons more.
Excellent tips. Especially about practicing around the green and bunkers. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice hands and nails.
I like your common sense instruction style. Thanks!!
Good stuff Hannah, this really is a breath of fresh air compared to all the blokey big beasts of you tube golf!

Great video as always. Love the chipping challenge yardage game. I’m so gonna use this! 👍

Wow, that is great dedication to getting better! Yes short game is huge and generally easier to improve.

Yes, having the longest and shortest distance really helps!
The best advice is to stand on a chair for your photo if a seven year old shorty. :-D. In Black & white too. Lol

Bedding track was annoying. Way to loud IMO.
Love the “Hannah Holden age 7” reference 😂😂😂
Editor mugged me off there…
@@hannahholdenNCG shocking 🤭
Hannah…you’re great!!
Thanks for all the effort you put in
The trouble is, most people play maybe once a week and just don't have time to spend practising.... even though we'd all love to.
Yes I understand that but if people want to get better they have to carve out some time!

Glad to know I’m doing the right things as I do a lot of these things, but thinking of scratch from 24 is maybee pushing my luck a bit 😂😂👍❤️

Theres only one way to know a club and that is to hit it , a lot , and hit it some more until you know it .

@@hannahholdenNCG what are your iron shafts, brand and model?
What about using range balls they don’t give you a true distance
Just work out how far out they are. If your 80yd shot goes 60yd you can still practice that shot but to the new yardage
I need to practice e my short game more . Hoping to get from 8 down to 4/5 this year
Do you need to practice short game or do you need to miss better?
My tip would be find the money to pay for good facilities / golf courses. As poor conditions will never help your golf game.
This is also true, god practice facilities makes a huge difference
Regardless of facilities……play the ball as it lies would definitely help you…..it’s all about what lies, using what strokes, club
