The fact that these companies don't provide training and mentorship shows that the so called shortage of skilled workers is the companies' own fault.
Let's put 2 and 2 together. There are simultaneously a skilled labor shortage and a high youth unemployment rate. Does anyone see a single solution to these 2 problems?

The labour shortage in Germany is sadly a long-established myth based on companies pushing for deregulation and an affordable workforce. The inflation-adjusted wages in Germany have been falling for a long time. However, a labour shortage will likely approach during the coming years as baby boomers are retiring. But currently there for sure is no labour shortage and more job seekers than available jobs.

I should brush up on studies about this, but anecdotally this hardly depends on the industry you’re in. I can only speak for IT, but I heard a lot of people complain that it’s hard for them to attract talent. If that’s because of their recruiting processes or because there is a shortage is harder to say for me. But I hear that complaint quite consistently. Also not only in IT, but I hear it from craftsmen aswell. So it seams to me calling it a myth might be an exaggeration. As you said, it will only get worse when boomers leave the workforce.

Actually the official numbers like e.b. 150000 free IT-jobs are doubted by many. For example there were many reports, that the VDI (Verein deutscher Ingenieur, the main association of engineers in germany) counted certain jobs up to 7 times (1 jobs lead to a count of 7), because often one job is not only advertised by the company itself, but also by a bunch of engineering services. And this is only a example. In general, the companies try to display their situation as dramatic to lower the ristrictions e.g. for engineers from other countries. Think about this: How can the wages stagnate since many years, if there is SUCH a shortage of employees?

Then comes a reality. If you are such an asset, then why ever go to a Germany?.. if you're earning in their land 50k+ a year you will see up to 40% of those 50k gone into taxes and there is no way avoiding it.
You can't invest either. You can't really do annual % saving accounts, cause the 3% growth per year is lower than their inflation, which means your money LITERALLY burning up and cannot keep up.
You can't get a pension as well, because there will be noone left in 50 years to fund your retirement with their current policy. Having own retirement plan is also not feasible, because the pension law requires YOU to work and fund with the taxes the pension for people who are currently retired.
And in the end comes quality of living:
-transport infrastructure is outdated. Trains are permanently delayed or simply gone. Just last week the trains stopped going to the neighbouring city. So they placed busses. Went there yesterday with a bus instead of the train. Keep in mind - 1 week has passed and who knows how much more time will it take.
-tele-communication is a joke. Internet is literally DSL. What is DSL? Remember phone-cable internet from early 2000? This thing is still running here. No glass fiber. Cost is also insane for what you get.
-phone internet and even coverage is funny. I am just outside a city and it might fumble. Or they put their towers where they have the most clients. So if you go to another region - you might have 0 phone connection to even call.
-inflation is still going up here visibly. Germany is no different from others. Just on Friday all sorts of milk got roughly 10-12% cost increase. Flat. 1 euro per 1 litre. And that's something noticeable, "at hand" so to speak.
-healthcare? Get ready to search for a doctor and see if they have a spot for you to assign to. Cause each of them has a limited client capacity that they treat. You don't have one yet? Well, search up, call them, make an appointment to check up and do the documents. Oh you work 9 to 5? Well, sucks for you, cause the doc works same hours. You have to skip a work day or at least couple hours from your shift, to go to the doctor physically and do a 'check-in'. Guess who is living in Germany and still has no doctor? Me.
-driving licence is a hiatus. Like everywhere. Exam is also hilarious with teaching you how to jump around in a seat and do 360 look like an owl, and then you don't ever need it.
-moving to another apartment also takes a fuckton of paperwork and you better have the scanner, cause you are going to fill in the documents by hand and then scan them and send to the landlord. Then you wait for uhhh 2 month for me at least, until i will be able to get in it.
-forget about buying a house. Just like anywhere actually.
-remember - every home is fueled by gas (not your car oil if you are American). I still don't know do they have a central heating system or not. So guess how expensive it is to run heating. Many Houses are actually super old and have verry very bad heat insulation and sound insulation as well. So... Ye...
      - to finish it off: a weird fact about your electricity and gas provider. Well it is probably one company that runs in the city or at least a conglomerate right? No. There are like 10 companies with different costs for electricity and gas. Who are they, how the hell are they supplying if the electric grid is like... Generally there? It is not a wire per client or smth. The grid is sustained by the taxes and shit, so... Why are there like so many different suppliers of the same Electric power through the same single power cable that goes to the building? Or are they Producing the power and feed it to the grid and charge per kW tht they provide?
But hey. Weed is legal to buy and sell and even grow at home (imagine: 3 plants at home at within legal margin).
Being politically open is also free here, like in western culture. Just don't say too much criticism.

@@ChimakaGames many of your points could apply to many other countries.
Income tax is a thing, inflation has hit worldwide, infrastructure is not perfect anywhere (unless you want to count the Japanese train system, but Japan brings other issues with it).
I am also thinking of leaving Germany, but I don't know where to go. Of any European country, Germany is a good enough choice, USA is out just because of their medical system (and a million other things), most anything south of the equator is either not strong enough economically, has awful weather (over 40°C in Australia? Nopes!) or is just too cut off from the rest of the world. Similarly with the countries that are too far north, I would like to get some sunlight during winter, thanks.

Sorry but I don't see any acute shortage of IT jobs. I work for a big company and we are receiving hundreds of applications on every single job. Real job shortage is in low paying and stressful jobs like nursing, hospitality, cleaning and shift based factory jobs. Almost all Germans are vying for high paid jobs. Germany does not have a skills problem. It has a wage problem (as companies are not willing to pay good salary to skilled people and so younger Germans are not applying to low paid jobs).

I see a rather bleak future. The shortage of skilled workers is an invented problem to get more cheap labor. And when we look at who is retiring, we quickly realize that the jobs are not being filled because they could have been rationalized away decades ago. Digitalization is progressing and will rationalize a lot of jobs in Germany....

  • @89TStefan
    @89TStefan 2 місяці тому +5

As an employed software developer on intermediate level in Germany, all I can just say is that the Job market is more or less meh.
When I changed one year ago, it was still better than nowadays and I got a very decent job at a bank where I am also currently working at.
But you should know a few things.
First of all, especially well-qualified people are literally fleeing the country. Because the taxes and insurance cost are too high, the salary is therefore only nominally high while after taxes, it is a bad joke, especially compared to living costs in many parts of Germany nowadays.
    Earning 80k sounds nice, right?
Well, as a single you only see 4k per month which goes up to 48k per year. The rest goes to the state.
The taxes and insurance cost are outrageously high. Not to mention so many other taxes such as the VAT on everything, energy tax, gasoline tax, electricity tax, GEZ fees and everything else.
Living cost used to be cheaper, it just increased by over 20% since 2021. And there is no end to it.
The deterioration in the recent decades is just increasing. The living costs are the second biggest problem when people with high taxes are basically hit double when their salary is not increasing enough to keep up with the living cost.
In fact, if the policy is being kept like it is, there won't be much pensions in the future. So basically, you pay for barely anything as ROI while if you could do proper self-investing, you could be a millionaire when doing things rightly.
And then, there is of course the question where the money goes.
If you look at the quality of electricity grid, or deutsche Bahn, generally spoken the infrastructure, there is simply so much which is not working properly in Germany it is even a mystery this country is still economically powerful, but that is also changing nowadays with many industries fleeing the country as well, not wanting to keep up with this country and the extremely expensive costs anymore. Fun fact: Producing in Switzerland is cheaper than Germany even though the salaries are higher...
And then, there is bureaucracy everywhere. As someone being married to a Japanese and therefore knowing Ausländeramt very well, I can't deny my overall shock of how underdeveloped this country is in terms of how to deal with foreigners, something I as a German didn't have to experience. They let everybody in who comes illegally, but cannot even handle legal migration properly or very often just treat you like shit, asking unbelievably stupid demands, and the guarantee that your degree is acknowledged is... well... not so high because of the sheer arrogance in Germany when it comes to foreigners. Even just getting married is troublesome here. Not to mention work bureaucracy, and so much stuff like tax declaration or so which are often even run automatically.
In the end, I will probably relocate to Japan in a few years if things won't change here for the better, because a) I speak Japanese, b) Japan is nowhere as bad as here (which says a lot when thinking about the fact that Japan is not doing that well either and there are many problems too) and c) even with lower salary, I could effort a far better life than here with my currently pretty high salary.

Hey Stefan. Last month I went to Japan for weeks but just for travelling. I am mot sure, but it seems that the Japanese IT work salary are relatively low and their infrastructure are not quite developed.

It is good that you are trying to focus on the positives but the reality is different. There is no job shortage in Germany especially in IT sector. Just check the number of applicants for the jobs in linkedin for any particular job. For a simple werkstudent position, there will be over 100 applicants. No matter what kind of technology is needed, the competition is very high. Next thing to watch out is, I really doubt if these job postings are real. The companies , especially start up's wants to show the stakeholders that they are actively hiring and put fake job openings in sites. Why I have this doubt is becaue I could see the same job in same company listed for long in Linkedin and one day its gone and next day the same opening appers fresh. This happens as a cycle. Also why no one speaking about firing? SAP is laying off 8000 positions for 'restructuring' . Not just SAP laying off is a very common news these days. As per bundesbank Germany is already in recesion .

But it is a myth that there is such a big lack of workers! Yes, Max is partly right, but the HR-Departments are looking for skilled persons, who fit to a job like a key to a lock! An example: If you want a VW Golf car, you may have an offering available of let's say several thousands. If you want a green VW Golf car you will have an offering available of several hundred. If you want a green VW Golf car with leather seats and silver dots, you will have a VW Golf shortage! Another joke: A guy went to an Interview and takes place in the waiting room. After a while, a candidate came out, with dead eyes staring at the floor. How was it? They want guys with language skills, I don't speak English, French, Spanish, ... no chance. Our guy happily runs in and said happily not even asked: I speak English, French, Spanish, Greek and Latin.... ! ----- What about the common Bantu dialects... the HR-guy asked... yawning.

50k- 80k is a promising salary? Its a joke salary, first from those 50k-80k you are left with 30k-50k at best so like 2500 - 4000eur and considering now a 2 bed rent in big cities is comething like 1200 without any bills (with bills easily 1600) its an absolute joke.
The problem in germany is that they make your life so tight and worthless that you are forced to leave and when all the skilled workers leave (because they have a choice and they can and because they are also wanted somewhere else) then german labour market starts crying about it.
Like salaries have literally not increased anything reasonable since 2017, in 2017 we had almost the same salaries 35k-70k when you factor the tax and the deductions and all that the difference in 7 years is like 300-700 netto more and that doesnt even cover the difference in rent. soooooo get paying please by now in IT industries we should be seeing the 120k- 150k seriously, might sound like a lot but daddy finanzamt + others deductions like health insurance, social insurance, this insurance that insurance are about 50% of your salary so 120k is not much

I am a retired Dipl.-Ing. and supported young engineers to find a job. Not commercial!😊
      1. Don’t use the shotgun method! German employers don’t like that.
You must carefully study the job offering and must ask yourself if you would employ yourself! Got it? That means find out what the company is doing! What are they great for? Do they have famous products! Do I have a clue due to their product… in short, find out as much as possible about the company and what of your skills would fit!
      2. Don‘t boast! Don’t write: I am Mr or Ms „Wunderbar“ and will teach you your business.
      3. Don’t do statements without proof! Show „awards“!
      4. Don’t create gaps! Don’t do nothing. Arbeit schändet nicht!😊
      5. Don’t be arrogant! Work with ordinary workers and learn from them! It is quite usual that German engineers discuss with ordinary workers! I did it myself and it will not harm your prestige!
It is not a myth! If you see some guys in blue suits climbing into a giant ship engine, one of them might be a guy with master degree from a German redbrick!😊

I would say you are better off with a degree from a University of applied science just because it isnt as theoretical as uni + i think especially with CS it would be great to get as much work experince in that field as possible and many FHs (Unis of Applied Sciences) help you with your internships or have "Compulsory internship program". So in conclusion, I think to get a good job in IT and to learn as much valuable knowledge in coding and get good work experience, my choice would be a degree at a FH. Also many FHs are just a tad bit more personal - easier connection to your profs, lower amounts of students etc. In my opinion a plus. Hope I could help you out.

So we are collecting any information we can to help them.
    Is it worth it?
Any information from everyone is welcome.

hey do you know if the state funds for my german language certification course till B2 level? or if there's a provision that I get my language certification funded? As an international student studying at private University I seldom could fund my own thing. I do not have the money, It's really as simple as that. Just 50€ in my account.

Those salary expectation numbers look fair. The fact is that the cities where those are offered are way more expensive. So unless you are desperate coming from a war territory starving and struggling to survive, such wages won't make your life happier in german cities where you HAVE to stay to get them. And then, on top, you have to learn German :D

Hi Max. I am from Bangladesh. Firstly, I would like to appreciate your contents. I must say your videos are very helpful undoubtedly. Can you please make a detail video on which universites, cities, & job opportunities for law background international students? Besides that, if there is less opportunities, can you suggest which programmes would be good to choose for getting jobs.

how about demand for product managers and how much germany is encouraging a guy like me to do masters after 8 years of work experience in media tech and creative production backaground on pursuing product and innovation management.

@@giridharanvasu1013 Yes, it's possible. You see a lot of openings at the moment, but they are mostly ghost jobs. Do not expect an open business mentality either. This country is stuck in the early 90s. German is often a requirement even if they don't say so.

Those salary ranges, especially for IT, are a joke. How are people expected to survive inflation?

I think you're portraying it way too easy. Yes, there is a shortage - of highly trained SENIOR devs. Junior positions are oversaturated. You can still find opportunities, but it is not as easy as you make it sound.
