  • I still can't believe this is happening, but it is. I want everyone to watch this video to hear your views about this game. I believe this video, along with upcoming ones, will provide a clearer view of what's really happening at Ubisoft, the issues they're facing, and how they actually think about this backlash. I have some conclusions at the end of the video, but I want you to share your thoughts about this as well. Also, please share this video and spread the message.

How much of a yellow fevered neckbeard weeb are you going to be? It's a fantasy game i've never seen people crying out loud this much whenever ac wasn't historically accurate, up until when the main character was a black samurai.
As I previously said on the earlier video that at several occasions throughout the Japanese history there were series of mass destruction of shrines in Japan by the Japanese themselves. One in particular was in order to "westernize" the country, no matter how shameful it is I have to point it out. Just saying. It's called Haibutsu kishaku..and it was a recurrent and continuous thing in the entirety of Japanese history.
I am actually very curious about @SHOHEI KONDO 's take on the 廃仏毀釈. But perhaps he didn't see it yet.
In the case of the video It's just a random player *purposefully* destroying destructible in a game, an it's not even forced or imposed by the game itself. You can kill people in AC, there is no way anybody could have the right to play the victim card when it come destroying the surroundings. You can even purposefully burn churches down in AC. Get over it.. seriously.

The protagonist of the original concept was Yamauchi Taka, a Japanese man. But then George Floyd died and a bunch of dishonest reporters, decided to lie and say that there was a large amount of racism in the US. The reporters said that in the US, there is a lot of racism against Black people. and the reporters were lying. BLM is the name of a group of liars that had also lied about racism at that time. BLM says that it’s against racism. But it’s actually a group that hates white people. And BLM thought that all white people wanted to see a Japanese male character. they did want to see a Japanese male character. The reason why they wanted a Japanese male character is because it looks natural in feudal, Japan. Racism was not involved the white people’s desire to want a Japanese male character. But UBI thought that only a racist would not be OK with a black male protagonist in a game that takes place in a historically accurate (with the exception of the sci-fi elements) depiction of Japan. To pander to BLM, UBI replaced Taka with Yasuke and depicted him as a samurai.

Ubisoft a French company have Chinese people working on AC Shadow game (behind the scenes making of the game) and that's why there are buildings that look like Chinese buildings.
Ubisoft used the fake Japanese historian Thomas Lockley's book as a source material. Thomas Lockley was asked how he wrote 100s of pages of his book based on 4 pieces of paper historical document (original historical documents written before the Shincho Koki manuscripts) and he admitted to having faked the whole thing (he had to be creative and embellish things as he admitted).
Yasuke was never a samurai or even a retainer, he was only a slave then became a servant to Oda. Yasuke never had a Japanese wife, or a daughter and he was never given land or a house. When Oda was killed, Yasuke took the opportunity to fled and that was the last record of Yasuke. Shincho Koki is a series of manuscript written by Japanese that did not live or witness the events, wrote manuscripts in late 1600s decades after Nobunaga Oda's death in 1582 describing the events around Nobunaga Oda late life and death. The history textbook title Shincho Koki Chronicles published 1992 are two different things. Shincho Koki Chronicles had a newly revised version (published in 2006) that conveniently added things about Yasuke.
The manuscripts from Shincho Koki never mention Yasuke. There are Jesuits letters written by people from Europe sent to Japan in late 1600s decades after Nobunaga Oda's death. Those letters did mention Yasuke and claims or "suggested" things about him. The history textbook Shincho Koki Chronicles does acknowledge both Shincho Koki manuscripts and Jesuits letters but never confirmed Jesuits letters the claims or "suggested" things about Yasuke. There are no artifacts of Yasuke. Any time someone name drop Shincho Koki, ask them are they referencing the manuscripts written around 1665-1695 or the history textbook published in 1992 and then newly revised version in 2006. Those are two very different things. The English translation in 2011 also added words like retainer. The European did not just translate from Japanese to English, they added words from in the 2011 edition.
Those Ubisoft's defenders are all insecure and they will keep spreading the lies propping up Yasuke. They do this by stretching and mudding facts and truths.

They've not treated us very well over the years, with many similar problems in valhalla to shadows, and in syndicate, while Jacob was accurate to real english young men, evie was only there to complain about colonialism all the time, which was frustrating when syndicate is the 4th game in a row to do this. Plus evie isn't really accurate to english people. She's just what an American might think english people are like. As for AC4, Edward kenway was always english in the lore, but then they retconed him to be half english and half welsh, only for him to call himself welsh, disregarding his english heritage. This is especially odd because Edwards name is english and so is every word he speaks. So there's nothing welsh about him. Why make him say he's welsh then? They are evil. They pivoted away from a game starring a Japanese character to being one about a black guy who is a mere footnote in history and having him rampage through the country was a deliberate choice. @Lifeislikeadoughnut 1. The Pope was the main antagonist of the game, not some random innocent you assault for no reason. The Borgias were notorious for nepotism, corruption, and generally being terrible people in real life.
      2. The Templars are using the Notre Dame cathedral to discuss their nefarious plans to carry out evil deeds. Besides the Notre Dame cathedral was ransacked during the French Revolution and many priceless artifacts were plundered and destroyed by the revolutionaries, including statues of saints that were mistaken for representing kings of France. It was hardly considered Holy Ground at the time. It was dedicated to various "secular" ideologies starting in 1793 and was simply used as a warehouse. It wasn't until 1801 when Napoleon rededicated it to the Catholic Church and it became a site of Christ once more.
      3. Fighting the gods is optional and is a challenge for high level players, not part of the narrative, and besides nobody worships the gods of ancient Egypt anymore so it's a moot point to argue.

Ubisoft seems to think that they're very model of efficiency by refusing to do basic things like marking shrine props as non-destructable, snubbing an ethnically native protag in favor of a non-native whose story is based on the lies of a charlatan, refusing to hire any real and qualified Japanese historians assist with the setting, and filling out this game's dev team with newbies who probably couldn't program an RPG Maker game. Yet every "cost cutting measure" they take is just another sledgehammer swing to this game's knees.

I am glad that there are (or were) people internally that know how wrong it is, but if they don’t say anything that is just as bad as doing it themselves, they become complicit. Thanks for this video.
As a Japanese, I will explain.
Objects are important in Japanese religious beliefs, but so is the field.
In Japanese religious beliefs, the mirror is called the "GO-SHINTAI(御神体)", and is KAMI-SAMA themselves.
GO-SHINTAI varies from JINJA to JINJA.
In some cases it is a mirror, but in other cases it is a mountain located behind the JINJA that is GO-SHINTAI.
To do violence to GO-SHINTAI is the same as doing violence to KAMI-SAMA.
The response regarding this JINJA matter is very simple.
There is no need to think of the mirror(GO-SHINTAI) as an object and deal with it.
We just need to make the field impenetrable.
For all JINJA that appear, you can treat the building to make it impenetrable, and that's it.
Beginning at TORII, JINJA interior is divided into several areas as fields.
The closer we get to KAMI-SAMA, the more we move from the human realm to KAMI-SAMA's realm.
It is KAMI-SAMA who determines the rules within that realm, not man.
Therefore, those who cannot deal with the rule can deal with it by not entering the field.
Japanese KAMI-SAMA does not punish sin.
It curses(TATARU, 祟る) humans according to its own rules.
In addition, Japanese KAMI-SAMA are both nature deities and ancestors of the Japanese people.
For the Japanese, KAMI-SAMA profaned is the same as being profaned by their own ancestors.
The Japanese do not tolerate the desecration of their ancestors any more than they would tolerate the desecration of themselves.
Japanese KAMI-SAMA is fundamentally different from GOD and Buddha.
    Please handle with real care.
I hope this explanation helps your understanding.

The conpany not being responsive when issues arise hurts the company in the long run but in the short run all managers and most employees are more concerned with looking out for their jobs and future employment. That takes precident over doing the right thing. Managers who tell their managers what they want to hear get promoted as employees who express concerns are viewed as trouble makers. The phenomenon described by the Anonymous Developer can be aptly characterized as Rainbow Capitalism-a practice wherein corporations strategically adopt Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, not out of genuine concern for marginalized communities, but as a means to bolster their public image while simultaneously exploiting these very groups for profit. Ubisoft is far from the sole perpetrator of this practice in the Western corporate sphere. Such companies claim to champion inclusivity and social progress, yet within their own ranks, employees endure systemic issues including sexual harassment, talent attrition, and mental health crises. The hypocrisy is glaring: how can a corporation profess to care about the well-being of marginalized individuals while neglecting the suffering within its own workforce? One need only recall the investigation into Activision Blizzard by the state of California, which exposed similar patterns of corporate misconduct. Not to mention Five former Ubisoft executives were arrested for sexual harassment. These entities do not seek to uplift diverse cultures; rather, they commodify them, extracting economic gain while shirking ethical responsibility. This, in essence, is the true face of Rainbow Capitalism.

They didn't even bother to hire actual Japanese historians. In Origins, they used the works of Jean-Claude Golvin to accurate portray Ancient Egypt. They were so thorough, that they implemented a chamber in one of the pyramids that was discovered to be real only after the game had released.

Late last year there was an incident where chinese tiktokers openly defaced the Yasukuni shrine and posted the video online. Almost all chinese commenters left encouragement below the video. Couple that with how chinese people (since under heavy surveillance) learns how to "sneak" messages in subtle ways... it's not hard to imagine chinese developer/teams(s) sneakily added stuff that would mock or offend Japan. Since we pretty much know that the ubisoft higher up are only concerned about their DEI and the black samurai, these less visible, culture sensitive offences could more readily sneak under the radar during the review process.

Yeah, and even if it is a series of destructable props, they merely need to toggle it as indestructable.
But as I type that ubi insider covered this.

The me too movement going from sexual assault to mental harassment is crazy 😂. Literally every man in the workforce has experienced mental harassment at least once and I’m betting more on the side of daily 😂😂

    If Ubisoft somehow read this:
Don't bother fixing AC Shadows, don't waste your money, don't waste your time. Cancel it, take an L, and just sell yourself to Tencent or whatever.

If they made Yasuke as a DLC character instead of the mc, I doubt it has this much backlash.

Yasuke is just a cherry on top. So far Ubisoft has done worse stuffs than just trying to promote Yasuke and his samurai identity. They stole assets from historical reenactment groups, they used designs of religious institutions without permissions, they used the design of one-legged Torii gate (a symbol for the atomic bomb event in Nagasaki) for their promotion material, they also stole Zoro's sword from One Piece at some point. There's also drama surrounding Thomas Lockley, a fraud scholar who made up all the samurai BS for Yasuke and got hired by Ubisoft for consultations on Yasuke's story. All of these just piled up and became this huge mess we are seeing right now.

@@wzx6x6z6w True, but people only dug that deep and found out all the mistakes because he’s the center of the spotlight.
If they made him the dlc character, people would have bought the game without realizing those mistakes and they’ll give Ubisoft money for him as a dlc character as well.
I phrased it in the previous comment poorly, sorry.

It's just not Yasuke, the game in general is just not good. They just use Yasuke to blame racism when the game comes out and sells bad.

Just stopping by to give you a thumbs up and show some support for the work you've been doing. This could have been such a cool game, too bad Ubisoft had to F it all up.

The bigger and more popular a series/company gets, the more fragile it becomes. Ubisoft and AC became so big that they are a shadow of what they once were. I don't think Ubisoft and AC can be saved by this point, and the ones at the top can't blame anyone but themselves. We need to accept that the best stories are the ones that have an ending before they become too big, and I hope that is what Ghost from Sucker Punch and Horizon from Guerilla learn from Ubisoft's mistakes and understand that endings are inevitable, and are sometimes needed so the story itself can stay special.

🤷‍♂️its a cycle. All the real talent and vets get let go etc. Some might reform some newer smaller studios and release some great stuff and get bought out again.and the cycle goes on..
