I have put in piling with my dad since i was 15 years old and now i run the business. I have learned an immense amount from the man. Im proud to be a second generation pile buck. We live in michigan and i wouldnt trade working on the lakes driving sheets for anything. Everyone wants to do it but not everyone can do it right! You guys rock!
Thanks for writing me and watching my channel. That’s a good story to hear. I actually started after hurricane Frederick with my dad in 1979 building docks, and just grew from there. I still love it that’s why I’m still out in the field doing the actual work.
Hey recently I got a quote for $58k to have 130 feet of steel seawall put in at my property. I called a steel company and they told me material would only be about $16k. I was told it would take a week to install also. After factoring in paying a four man crew $50 an hour each which is very generous in my opinion and overhead and a 25% profit, my price ends up around $40k. I want to know if the $58k is a fair price or not. I’ve also been quoted $30k by another company but am afraid it’s too low and that either they will quit midway through the project or do a poor job. What is your opinion on the situation and would I be able to install it myself as I can weld and do have a tractor with a front loader and backhoe
Great work! It's clear that you put a lot of heart into your videos. If you ever need help with editing or animation, I'd be happy to assist. Good luck with growing your channel!
Thanks for watching my channel and your comment. I appreciate that. I have definitely thought about animation from time to time. Thought it would be a cool feature. I have an idea for a tagline. Dockter Dale 😃 I just don’t have a lot of time to do to editing I stay so busy with all the projects we got going on now with the marine construction business the reclaim wood business and now I’ve purchased a sawmill the start cutting up all the greenheart we have. So I pretty much just shoot and paste together when I have a few minutes in iMovie
@@DaleWHickman Thanks for your response! It sounds like you have a lot on your plate with all your projects-marine construction, reclaim wood, and now the sawmill. That’s impressive! If you don’t mind, I’ll reach out to you through your work email.
Dale as you know my house is on Albarmar Sound in North Carolina which is federally protected water way. If the government ever found that crap or seen that crap on the water, heads would roll...
@@Paulie1232 crap? I guess you were referring to the stuff that was dumped over the wall yeah it is definitely not advisable but they were probably trying to say it was riprap. 🤷🏻♂️
Always an interesting video. At 3:06, with having to screw those nuts on that far, a pinched skateboard wheel that won't spin, on a 6'' rod in a cordless screw driver, will spin them down that threaded rod super fast. Thumbs up !!
Can you actually tie with vertical helical piers instead of the horizontal tie backs or would you instal the helical piles at a 45 degree angle when installing a pool about 3 feet from the wall ?
Thanks for watching and your question. I’ve actually done both vertical and horizontal, but every situation is different. Really need to get with the structural design engineer to make sure it’s gonna work for the Soil conditions that you have in the pool load against that wall.
Stinky mud is one thing and Stinky people throwing their trash over the seawall is another. And, allow me to quote from this video "Wherever there is a hole, somebody is going to shove sumpin in it" - I wholeheartedly agree! Dale, I will see you again soon at your wife's reclamation yard as we have another enclosure to build.
Thanks for watching and no unfortunately, Saturday made six years that he had checked out as he would say made his last trip around the Sun. Sure do miss him. He was a great guy.
Dale, Thanks for the great video. Can you tell me what that attachment is on the excavator? Is that by Caterpillar? I have a machine and want to find that attachment or equivalent. Also where can I can the driver and Manta rays? Any suggestions? Thanks again!!
Thanks for your comment and watching my channel. The quick coupler attachment was purchased a Catapiller. I don’t really recommend a manual one after I’ve used it for several years. I’ve had to replace it three times gets full of sand. I have a hydraulic one now that I just purchased with a new tractor last week, I’ll get some videos of that posted the Man ta ray driver and anxhors you can purchase from Coastal products Gulfbreeze Florida tell him I sent you please.
Dale, do you use the soil anchors and also drive additional tie back piles? How do you decide when to only use soil anchors vs when yo use both soil anchors and tie back piling?
Thanks for your comment and watching my UA-cam channel. That is a good question. We had a swimming pool behind this wall and we’re not able to dig back 12 foot to install the Piling tieback system so we go with a manta ray tie back system to drive them below the swimming pool. Also, if it’s a finished landscape yard will install the manta ray tue back systems to prevent from damaging the yard too much.
Love the videos. What do you think of weed holes or something similar to the Jet Filter system in the use of seawalls? What do you typically do for drainage? Thanks.
Hey Tom thanks for your comment yes we use well points and they go four foot back into the soil and are usually install on about 10 foot centers. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for your comment. Yes, you would be surprised with Pilings or Manta Ray Anchors will hold. I’ve got a 15 ton hydraulic jack that won’t pull them out of the ground when installed properly.

Do you pour a concrete cap?
I’ve done a few of them. It’s just not really a popular cap around here. People don’t wanna pay the money for them.
i guess with that solid anchoring it can bear the load of the ground against it?

Prolly has tie backs
@@papichulo2847 yeah. The sting ray anchors. Would it work in beach sand though?
Were you workn for marco marine construction or zap before
No sir, been working in the Pensacola area since 1979
