Range Rover L322 Air Suspension Fault | How to Diagnose and Fix Suspension on Land Rover

- I take on another air suspension fault error on my Range Rover L322 3.6 TDV8.
Finding it has sat down on its bump stops overnight and with the help of the GAP IID for Land Rover diagnostics tool I diagnose the issue and fix it.
We have 2 errors codes: CA120-64 and C1130-7A
I work through the system and locate and repair a failure with the Hitachi air suspension compressor.
It's such a conundrum when something goes wrong.. like the way you calmly and methodically go through the culprits
Well done.. Nice video
I think I would have waited until I arrived home before checking if it went up or down
I also have a suspension message.. hence watching your video.. it comes and it goes
@LionTheHeart thank you 🙏, the systems can appear to be overwhelmingly complex at first glance so for me the only way to solve anything on them is one small logical step at a time, and I mostly get there in the end 😊 Hope you find your intermittent fault 🤞
Coming from land cruisers to an L322, this might be my new favorite channel. Thanks!
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for this info. It's helped loads.. going to replace my valve block and air compressor.
I've heard that having wheel's not aligning correctly can cause issues with the same error messages
Glad it helped 👍 Good luck with your air compressor and valve block replacement.
Can't wait for the next video 😊
thank you 🙏
Thanks for your video, very interesting. My only negative comment is get rid of the plastic chrome nonsense on the exterior.
It's a fair comment 😁. It's on the list, mind you saying that it actually came out of the showroom with the chrome on, it's actual metal too ! 😁. It's only been on the ''to do'' list for 17 years, I'll get to it eventually, I've been busy 😂
Great videos im having problems with my l320 had a slight leak nearside front sits down overnight, BUT now looks like compressors gave up my own fault should fixed leak so it's probably been working overtime .now it's on its bumps and nothing from compressor ordered cheap one from amazon came today but weather's not on my side as no garage, wish I had a l322 easier to access. Mines is an AMK I will be watching for your update keep it up
Thank you @gerryduffy9507 I’ve got my fingers crossed for a break in the weather for you so you can get out and get it sorted. Wishing you a Happy New Year 👍
Very well done fixing that air compressor. The air suspension is a lovely thing, mine is absolutely on the fritz right now. It complains and says it is inactive. Very unhappy. Even so the car hasn't lowered down, so it isn't leaking. The air compressor seems fine. It's been like that for a month now. I'm just stuck in regular driving height. I think I have to invest in a tool to communicate with the car. I was thinking about either the Gap IID tool or the Allcomms mk3, since I have a 2004 L322. I see you recommend the Gap IID. You and many others. Can it do other things than read faults, like reprogram the body-control module or set up a new battery? It's big investment.
@tambarskelfir thank you 👍 I cant recommend the GAP IID tool enough if you have a Range Rover . On the downside it is very pricey but on the plus side it will do pretty much everything you can think of, in fact Ive never found anything that I have needed that it didn't do... yet.. It does also need to be VIN linked to your vehicle to unlock all its functionality. IMO a very worthwhile investment which will pay for itself pretty quickly. I wouldn’t be without out it with my Land Rover vehicles to be honest, it’s help save my skin and wallet many times over. Have a look at the GAP website where it will detail all its functionality.
@@car-repairs-diy-at-home Excellent, thank you for the recommendation! I don't mind a good investment, and this sounds like a very good investment. Looking forward to the second part of your video :)
Like all of my other RR's....Ive scooped up a used spare compressor assy and rebuilt it as a spare. Oh....I like the chrome side grills (have a new set waiting to go on mine).
Having a spare compressor rebuilt and ready to go is a good plan ! I may see if I can do the same 😊
what was the outcome of valve block replacements ?
@commercialletsvideos5294 I eventually tracked the leak to a small pinhole in the front o/s air bag which I will be replacing in another video 🙂 Depending upon where the suspension was positioned the pinhole was sometimes self sealing making it hard to find with conventional soap and water spraying but this was the cause of the overly frequent compressor operation and the valve block was fine.
Great video- thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I noticed you struggled a bit getting the piston to stay in place when installing it. I don’t know if X8R provides it in their kit but 4x4 Air Seals provide a small wood block to hold the piston from turning while tightening it during installation. A hercularian feat of strength for sure!
Thank you for the info, much appreciated 👍
Hey my car , suspension in the front are very high and the rear very low what can I do ???
Hey :) Run some diagnostics with a reader and see if there any codes that help direct you to what the problem is :)
wow never had an opportunity to work on land rover electrical. just look at the harness cables wrapped by material electrical tape that is not acceptable. I have both of my Lexus LX470 2006 300K miles no issue with air suspension
@skhochay I’ve never been able to fathom the reason for the electrical cables being wrapped or run like they are in the Range Rover L322, I just cannot see why the wiring loom is run like it is, apart from sending me insane trying to work on them 🫤 I’ve recently stripped out the wiring looms from a Land Rover Freelander and it’s much more logical, sensible and tidy. I guess the electrical engineers had a reason for doing it on a Range Rover but it seems they are the only ones that knew why and kept it to themselves 😁
I've just replaced my compressor but I didn't dare wear a white hoodie whilst doing so.......
@Hagg3066 You do have to be confident in your own ability to pull off compressor repair in a white hoody, it's not for the faint of heart, I can even do an oil change in it 😁 Maybe with some more practice it’s something you can eventually achieve but for now it’s just something for you to aspire to 😊
I am doubtful it’s the air compressor more likely sensor or wiring you need a calibration
You may well be right, as the compressor is now good I’m working my way around the height sensors.
@ Disconnecting the battery at night will tell if there is a leak or not they do self-adjust overnight and if a fault is present they will drop to the bump stop and be slow to inflate etc
thank you @barrytemple808 I'll report back 👍
