Cannot believe I have been missing out on this music for this long. Just discovered Sturgill this last week. Seeing a live show is on the bucket list. Hope he comes to Canada one day....
Dang I just discovered him this week, but you are a lucky person there in Canada you have your very own CORB LUND! And I must tell you he is the #1 country western artist in my opinion! Thank you Canada!!
I think the best version of this song is when he plays it at the sun king brewery. But that's just me they're all good. Thanks Sturgill you are definitely one of the best of all time, keep on making that kick ass music great job boys!
He's definitely bringin outlaw country back! As for the best, maybe this generation. Hard to top Townes!!! Caught him before he caught fire @ Sam's Burger Joint in SA. Best live show I've seen in years, partly due to the size of venue (200 cap.). Lil Joe is $$ and Sturg handles his own independently. I hope the friggin press doesn't drive him away from the industry, a la JJ Cale stylee. He's the real deal, period. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Bold statement indeed, and I'm not far from agreeing 100%. Seeing him live in Jan will make that call then. I've been on a sturgill binge for for months now. Go out and try to find a Sunday Valley CD. Good luck! Damn, he is good, lil joe & the boys killin it with him.... :-)
I too have been on a binge for months. I had a chance to see him live in Jacksonville at a sold out show. I didnt have a ticket and drove 4+ hours to see him. This is going to sound fake but I got there 4 hours early, encountered him on the street, told him I was his biggest fan and I drove all that way in hopes for a ticket. He shook my hand, we exchanged some words and he long story short, Sturgill put my name on the door and bought my ticket for me!!! I could have died. Amazing show, met the band, which was surreal as they signed both of their CD's for me. That officially made my life complete. Enjoy them in January... I know you will.
Raymond Unterzuber That doesnt sound fake at all when it comes to Sturgill, he didnt have his fame handed to him and hes not in this just for a buck. He has all the talent in the world. Hope his recent record deal doesnt put many limtations on the songs he is allowed to write, release, and/or record. Best thing country has seen in quite some time. Sturgill and Jamey Johnson - two of the best...
Wait, did you think I was being sarcastic when I put this?! I think he is the greatest thing to happen to all of music in the last 30 years! I met him at a show in Jacksonville along with the band and they were all so fucking awesome and down to Earth. Sturgill bought my ticket into the show as it was sold out. You had to pick me off the floor. Bought both their CD's and had the band sign them. My life is complete.
CaisonWhatley Which post are you referring too exactly? I didnt realize I posted nearly the same thing twice, my mistake. But that story is true blue, hoss. I have absolutely no reason to make things up man, that takes too much effort.
Raymond thats a brilliant story especially as he should be a grammy winner if theres any justice. I wish he would play celtic connections in Glasgow next month but me think you Americans may not allow him across the waters again as he is truly one of your greatest assets.ps if you see him again could you mention celtic connections festival!lol
So what makes someone officially an outlaw? I'm asking seriously because I don't know shit about country music but I love this guy's music. A buddy of mine sent me a link to his Saturday night live performance of 'Call to Arms' and I was hooked. It's just damn good music... fuck the whole genre thing in my opinion. Thanks for any answers to that question above...
Well there's Stirgil, Tyler, Marcus king, and Billy strings (technically bluegrass). Those fellas are dragging our favorite sounds, kicking and screaming, into the next era. Thanks boys!
He did! In his bluegrass version of this tune he replaces one of the verses with: And oh, Lord, I finally got out of my record deal And now these bluegrass tunes is buying all my meals And we're all just pawns in the game of life like Mongo
God damn I love this song. I performed my own rendition of it the other night, and the crowd loved it. Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/1785xfCX5BA/v-deo.html
His voice is unbelievable; Sturgill Simpson is the messiah of modern country music.
AMEN.
+Elise Murray I couldn't have said it any better. Sturgill is a Mother Fucking God !
And the Jews that run Nashville won't play him on the radio because he won't lay down and take it in the ass...
The world needs more of this guy and less Sam hunt
amen
AGREED.
Jarrod Evans Less Luke Bryant too
I hate Sam hunt
Hell yeah. Make country country again
That is some grown man, bad ass country music right there.
AverageBri I agree with you. . . Luke Bryan and all these new mainstream artist are a memory of high school. . .seems like to me anyways
Cory Cox They’re What u call cunts! Sturgill, Shooter, Tyler Childers, and Stapleton are the real shit
Every time he sings a song, bro country dies a little inside, so PLAY PLAY PLAY. R.I.P bro country.
+ninji522 Amen
RIP? You're much more gracious with bro country than I'd be... ;)
No kidding. Real drums sound good.

Bro country needs to disappear. that's not real country music....more like pop music in my opinion
Dude’s a real country throwback monster
0:35 buddy in front row is killin it on the air guitar
This is by far the best version of this song
Keep on keeping on Sturgill! You’re what country needs
God damn he sounds like Waylon Jennings. He is bringing country back.

Outlaw country will live on with Sturgill...he has a little bit of the Waylon sound in him.
Not just a little
Just discovered him, immediately thought, "Waylon would be proud. "
Cannot believe I have been missing out on this music for this long. Just discovered Sturgill this last week. Seeing a live show is on the bucket list. Hope he comes to Canada one day....

Nice to see a country band adhering to the one-hat-per-band rule!
Is that a thing? Haha
I think the best version of this song is when he plays it at the sun king brewery. But that's just me they're all good. Thanks Sturgill you are definitely one of the best of all time, keep on making that kick ass music great job boys!

Some Jerry Reed vibes in this song
He ain't half bad

I’m an old headbanger, but this has torque. I like it.

He doesn't sound like waylon. Sorry but I don't hear it. He sounds a lot like Sturgill Simpson though.
He sounds more like Waylon than Waylon did! He would've LOVED Sturgill. "Hoss, how about you sing em and I'll stay home... Just send me the money! "
I'm diggin on sturgill Simpson. Only found out about him last week on Austin city limits.
He ain't half bad :)
weird. the only country band I like, but I REALLY like this band!
Go NAVY
Nostalgia, in this Covid era ^^

Post Malone sang this music, it was amazing .

Not a country fan at all... but I’m a fan of Sturgill.

Sturgill is the antidote we need to the bullshit 'country' music being produced by the mainstream music industry.
Sturgill BLESS
thanks bubba
They call me King Turd up here on Shit Mountain if you want it you can have the Crown....
Did sturgill ever figure out what rhymes with bronco?
He did! In his bluegrass version of this tune he replaces one of the verses with:
And oh, Lord, I finally got out of my record deal
And now these bluegrass tunes is buying all my meals
And we're all just pawns in the game of life like Mongo
breathitt county boy getting in dunn....
Jesus Loves You
Make country country again
who is that lead guitar player?
He's not playing with Sturgill anymore. Too bad.
He sounds like a young Waylon Jennings!!! Maybe country music has hope after all with Cody Jinks, Johnson, Chris Stapleton and him!!!?
Don't u dare forget about HAYES CARLL
Can't leave out Isbell
Chris Stapleton and all his fans are BRAIN DEAD.
Check out Corb Lund
And Corb Lund!!!

Song makes me want to slam dance.
Almost sounds like waylon
Blanco rhymes with bronco
Real nice. Now do Orange
Kinda sounds like Waylon Jennings.
I'm his next bass player
)
Post Malone brought me here.
not bad,on the other hand, that's a often used country progression/turn around, not unique or original.
God damn I love this song. I performed my own rendition of it the other night, and the crowd loved it. Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/1785xfCX5BA/v-deo.html
Nothing new
His vocals are horible in this video compaired to what he can do.
I'm diggin on sturgill Simpson. Only found out about him last week on Austin city limits.
