    It was a tarmac race with some dust. I felt that this gravel race route was more thought for pro cyclists that are comfortable with the road. I find it a pity that it was not a technical gravel race. I would love to see their skills on real gravel and also an important remark that the elevation was almost nothing compared with the Millau gravel race in France or in Houffalize in Belgium and others competitions of this season. UCI should think about this matter.

    • @Butchcassidy67987
      @Butchcassidy67987 Рік тому +6

      @@timdixo what even is gravel racing? Thats a serious question, is it the long endurance races in the US where basically you need for nothing to go wrong and have a giant engine and could perhaps get away with less than better bike skills? Or is it dry cyclo-cross? Quite frankly the product the UCI put together seems more like a real "race" that can be viewed at home and has the viewer in mind. Instead of just watching 5 riders get clear of the chaos and watching them ride rollers for 10hrs. Just a thought cause those of us that like road racing/XC mountain and triathlon have clear definitions of what the race actually is.

    • @jaredspier
      @jaredspier Рік тому +3

      The missed everything. I watched this live and there was no point - I should have just read an article that told me what happened, because the video coverage sure didn't tell any stories. The decisive attack for the win. VdP and GvA attacking for bronze. No one in the coverage team seemed to have a hot clue what was going on, so the viewers didn't either.
      A chapeau really needs to go to Oss though. Strong ride is nice, but the way he saluted the home crowd on his way in was classy.

    It’s a great start. The road world champs has always been on a multi-lap circuit so it’s understandable that gravel will be as well. To the naysayers:
    1. Not all gravel races are super technical. Make them too technical and xc mountain bikes will be quicker. Gravel bikes are really only fastest on mixed surface routes and relatively smooth gravel.
    2. This course is perfectly representative of the type of training or fun ride that you can do with your gravel bike.
    3. The pros are using road bikes… because they are pros. All the technical gravel races in the US you all are referencing have been done by pros on road bikes, sometimes with 28mm road tires. That doesn’t mean the vast majority of us wouldn’t still want bigger gravel tires.
    Personally I would like to see the course be more challenging overall but just like road it should suit a different type of rider every year. More elevation is a must, at least 60-70% of the course should be unpaved and the course should take the winner 6-7 hours to complete. Also these super tight sections make it feel a bit too much like a cross race. It doesn’t ever need to be as long as unbound imo as that is more of an ultra endurance event. A fairly low percentage of gravel races are actually that long and it needs to be entertaining to watch.
