Great example of someone not complaining about "terrible" sony menu and showing how its done. Kudos. So many people complain about menus never seem to really put the effort in customizing the camera, because with all the custom buttons and FN menu there is very little need to go to menu at all. I barely visit it every once in a while but I sure appreciate the ability to customize so many functions.

Great video, and a great feature.
Counting the hours until the embargo is lifted so that we can see this camera taken through its paces for real.

Amazing video. Sony should be paying you for this. Maybe the BEST Sony tutorial I've ever seen. Sorry Gary Fong and Michael the Maven. Thanks so much. Can we get more when they release the camera please??

Amazing, it's like being handed a second A9 with a completely different setup. Now that's your money's worth.

Rishi, great video...but to be honest, I've watched it twice now and it is somewhat confusing. Could you please do a follow up video explaining what you are doing, step by step. I understand the general premise, but when you get into the recall custom hold functions, on whether or not you check certain boxes in the foster settings, it gets really confusing. If you go back into the shooting mode and show how it changes the settings, that would help too. Thanks and I love your videos. Sony should be paying you to do a course for them!!!

Rishi, also when you are re-assigning the custom functions to the AF and AEF buttons, how do you have the shutter AF set? Did you disable that so you can use back button focus, or it is set to hav AF on when you press the shutter button halfway down??

Wow, why can't every camera allow us to assign every function to a button and switch instantly between them like this!?!??!?!?!?!

  • @raredreamfootage

I wish it was a [RECALL CUSTOM ON] instead of HOLD as I noticed you had to keep your finger on the button to maintain the new camera state.

It's a temporary override. You still generally want to return to the mode you have your camera set up for. After all, it'd be weird to have your Mode Dial set to Aperture Priority, then hit a button that suddenly keeps you in Shutter Priority. That would be... confusing. I would actually like 'Auto ISO Min Shutter Speed' to be an option in Recall Custom Hold. That way I could quickly tell the camera to jump to a min shutter speed of 1/500s when my kid starts running around, or 1/2000s when I'm tracking a running player. That way I could pretty much always just stay in Aperture Priority and adjust quickly to subject movement.

I don't see an Eye-AF option in the [Recall Custom Hold] feature. Am I missing something here?

    • @rishisanyal2444

You can easily just assign Eye AF directly to a button, which is probably why it's not included here.

Please make sure to test the rolling shutter when shooting video in Full Frame mode and APS-C and compare it to the a6500.
    I would really apperciate that.
    thx :)

That is VERY cool. Wish they would push that out to the lower level cameras but that wont happen

The problem with custom functions buttons is...I never remember what I have them set to since they're not labeled for that function ;-) ...unless I'm using it constantly, then I may remember.

you don't have to change a bunch at once, but 1 or 2 you can remember.

I tried assigning the AEL button to Focus Area wide but it didn't work. Is there anything really obvious you might not have mentioned? I guess you hit Register at the end? Or is it Import Current Setting? I tried both, but neither worked. I know sometimes certain functions don't work with either mechanical or electronic shutter. Could that be it?

Did you make sure that 'AF On' was also checked? (sorry for the late reply)

Weird that they would just randomly choose not to allow this on the A7RIII...? All these great things I can think of doing with all the custom buttons and none of it is possible.

Do they allow those custom setting to a memory card and then we can load them to another camera? Why this kind of behavior is not allowed in cameras because they are not computers?

This is really quite an important feature to incorporate. if this is indeed a pro camera and you are taking a loaner, you don't want to waste 30+ minutes reconfiguring a new body in order to get on with your job. You just want to boot up your settings and get back to work. Don't know why this tech is not present.

Novembre Pleut it is present on Panasonic Gh5 (don’t know about earlier models though....) you just copy your settings from one cam to SD, pop it in another camera, paste, and you’re done...
