Great video! My family was all cowboys or sheriff lol I have always wondered how cowboys 50 years ago made money. My family members that where cowboys are all gone now. Anyway keep up the great work very enjoyable!
When I was still driving a big truck, before I was forcefully retired, that was my favorite place to drive. I used to get yelled at for stopping along the border for the night. I didn’t care. Nothing like waking up to the desert in the morning. You know what they say about being young and dumb. I drove through and stopped wherever I wanted, for a meal or to sleep. I think I felt closer to God, and nature there.
When my friend was caretaker at the Taylor ranch he had 6 mutts including an english setter, white german shepard and a fat beagle and they treed a lion about a quarter mile up Geronimo trail on the side of the road...The setter climbed halfway up the tree trying to get to the cat.
You are a great interviewer.... You always ask such great questions, You lead them so they explain things, places, events in detail.... that takes a good interviewer.... You also ask relevant questions that pertain to dates, times, locations... Over all you do a great job and you invite people to watch.... Thank You for bringing us along....
I'd like to listen to that guy by that fire for hours thanks for taking me along Brett that's some big country crazy how those piles of clothes and everything's out there what a world we live in take care God bless
That was great to watch. My uncle, Asa Armantrout, grew up down on the Arizona border, he was a cowboy his whole life. He moved back there in the early 90s to live out his days. Cowboy, paratrooper, hero to me

Another great video Brett, Interesting people, tough mountain horses, dogs, rough country, great campfires ! Did you feel safe enough on one of them short ears ? I bet u did. Hopefully that country stays beautiful, in spite of the dc traitors ! Thanks Brett 👍🏻🤠
I used to hang out at the Taylor ranch and Geronimo trail. My friend was the caretaker there before Monk Maxwell bought it...Monk Maxwell is an old time well known cowboy written up in Western magazines. Lottsa history around there all the way to Cloverdale and the Gray Ranch. I'm a history nut and did a lot of exploring in Cochise county. Used to be a schoolhouse in Cottonwood. John Slaughters old ranch is a short distance down the trail, he was sheriff of Tombstone and fought outlaws and Apache...I could go on and on..lol
Harry Knight the rodeo stock contractor , rancher and half owner of the FLYIN' A in fowler ,Co had slaughters ranch leased in the late 40's , Knights youngest son Bill told me about being a boy there , how thick the walls were and the bullet holes. He said there was a gate you could go through and that was mexico.
Thank You. After four days of blizzard conditions up here in the Sierra, I was getting a little cabin fever blues. Spending some time with some interesting characters was just what I needed. Safe Travels.
1/2 hour away from my home, I have been there several times over the years while working for Cochise County SO...God bless y'all for keeping the heritage alive... Tony Parrish
Thanks for the visit I was raised in Cochise. Across that dry lake from Kansas Settlement and along the RR tracks that go thru Wilcox. At least that's how it used to lay.
I totally understand about the too many people in the forest I am also 62 and used to ride my horse All over northern Arizona but now everyone is in the forest with quads and side by sides
Thanks for the great video! It was good to see John again. Last time I saw him was about 50 years ago. I grew up in Bowie, ( I was a Townie). John was one grade ahead of me in school.. Was surprised to hear Wally is still alive, he has to be quite aged by now. Wally's wife, Charlene, was a saint. We used to see them in Church on Sundays. I didn't hear John say anything about Wayne, I always thought he was a brother to Wally but I may be wrong. The Klumps were very clannish at that time, generally kept to themselves. We'd hunt and hike all thru those mountains as kids, but we knew never to go on Klumps land, even though we grew up together in school. There are a few stories to tell about them days... Currently, I'm just a few miles north of the area you went to. A few times a month my dog and I hike the deserts around our community. I like to be aware of what's going on around me. I have found hides and stashes for illegals travelling thru. It's been that way for years, but has gotten more prevalent. I believe we are seeing a more dangerous crowd nowadays also.
Very good 👍🏻 Back in the early 90's I worked for Drum Hadley at the time was called the Guadalupe Cattle Company. It was an old Adobe ranch just over the ridge from where you were close to Cloverdale NM. Awesome country down through there. Biggest rattlesnake I've ever seen. Great video Brett
UA-cam is wild. I just watched The Cowboys and this channel pops up. Thanks UA-cam, also love the Cowboys movie . That ole Bay horse John was riding has a hell of a good disposition. Got that ole head dropped and level and just a good riding horse. This country would’ve been good for the mules to be honest. Surprised them horses didn’t get a stone bruise on all those rocks. That truly is “No country for old men”
I have to admit when I start watching your videos I can't stop I really would love to go on a hunt with you guys thanks a lot it's out very high he's a great guy
So glad you made it to AZ, Brett. Great trip. I’m East of this on the Eastern Huachuca’ Mtns in AZ. The higher mtns are particularly trashed and there have been some devastating “human caused” fires in the Chiricahua’s and Huachuca’s unfortunately. Amazing country.
Thank you for another great video. I see your post about Ellis Tents, I can tell you they are great, I have had one of their 10X10 prairie tents for at least 15 years or longer, the quality is second to none.
Great video. I agree that it was just not long enough. I thought that you were hunting with Teddy Roosevelt but it was Benny. I would like to sit around a campfire and listen to the stories from you and your guests. Like Mr Benny and Mr Otis the old school guys.

Thanks for sharing your trip. I bet he could tell a lot of good stories. On my trip year before last I ran into two cartel mules with AKs. Luckily I'm still here. That was east of Douglas Arizona. Beautiful country out there, but dangerous these days.

Glad I came across your channel. I live in the mountains of NE AZ. I love the desert and riding a good horse out like this. That's some rough eatin'! Got stuck cooking like that a time or two. I'll be looking for your interview with John and Kim. I always enjoy hearing their stories and what they have to say about the state of affairs over the illegals. Scary times for the ranchers on the border.
What I really love about this this is real history you know this is awesome I just discovered this channel today 28th of March 2024 Good channel bro I'm going to check out some more of your videos I just saw the one where you had hieroglyphics and stuff somewhere in the middle of nowhere Good deal. Really great footage thanks for sharing. It blows my mind that old cowboy can still ride such terrain. Also surprised people can run dogs loose on cats, seems like an old time thing that hasn't yet been put down culturally, just got to wait for people to pass on.
Hi Bret paul here from south africa. Sorry about big agnes. My son and i used do rides on our horses sleeping out in the veld as we call it. Well get a new friend and please continue.
Looks like you had a good time , buddy. I’ve known John for years. Sold him and his family thousands of gallons of fuel. His Uncle Wallace bought my late wife’s family’s ranch out , over 30 years ago. Miss the Pellincios, cowboyed all over em.
They got bad about 2006. Slowed them down for awhile ,now they’re Bach at it. It’s going to take getting tough with em. The human trafficking is what the real problem is.
Here is another little adventure I had on the border .... watch this one if you like ua-cam.com/video/vfHZRakLIZo/v-deo.htmlsi=cp5fPbJFTrDaT9lo

Looks like you had a great time! I'm glad you filmed it and shared, because many of us will never be invited on a trip like that ever in our life.
Thank you .. yes I have been lucky
You're just a few miles from my little patch of sand 30 miles below Dos Cabezas. Just enough for a camp and corral. Rich history in this country.
When my friend was caretaker at the Taylor ranch he had 6 mutts including an english setter, white german shepard and a fat beagle and they treed a lion about a quarter mile up Geronimo trail on the side of the road...The setter climbed halfway up the tree trying to get to the cat.
