I purchased a 30 year old bus sight unseen from rural Scotland and tried to drive it 400 miles home.

- Join us for a slightly different type of video to what you're used to from this channel. Don't worry - the normal videos are continuing, this is just some extra content to document the journey home and eventual restoration of this 1996 Volvo Olympian which we bought from the North Coast of Scotland.
This was randomly suggested, watched it and enjoyed
strangely compelling watching. A change from Americans getting old cars to run. Good luck lads
With young lads like this keen on engineering and mechanics, there is hope for Britain yet!
👏👏👏👏
not with the current government in charge. UK is dead
Always has been hope for Britain never give up..
....
Do you know Jesus Christ can set you free from sins and save you from hell today
Jesus Christ is the only hope in this world no other gods will lead you to heaven
There is no security or hope with out Jesus Christ in this world come and repent of all sins today
Today is the day of salvation come to the loving savior Today repent and do not go to hell

Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Jesus
Yeh haha
I love how all the armchair experts like to criticise the way you did things, but if you get the job done, the bus is in one piece and not broken and no one got hurt or killed and you were not arrested ,impounded or stranded then YOU DID IT OK. well done.
Fully agree…Great job. I wouldn’t have made it past that first left turn
@briggaskin 🤔…Oh, I remember. That was the slogan for British Leyland, wasn’t it? 😃
No idea why this was recommended. But watched it all and now excited to see what you do with it next. Great video.
Great to see a bunch of young lads with real enthusiasm for something other than gaming and phones.
Oh bore off you old sod
One of the BEST videos on UA-cam for some time. Well done all of you.
The fact you've done this on the only driest day for 6 months is nothing short of miraculous, keep it up lads
nice cliche
I enjoyed driving this bus when it was a school bus at EM Horsburgh in Livingston
Pretty sure I’ve been on it back when I was in primary school
I think I drove it for Lothian buses before they sold them to EMH
@@graememckay9972 this particular was owned by stagecoach before EMH
You should have bought it then!
I drove this bus when it was new in Newcastle.
Best of luck guys. I’ve just completed restoring R364LGH, a Palatine 2 bodied ex London Volvo Olympian which I love. It’s big and green now!!
Madness, I love it. Great that you were holding up a Series Land Rover towards then end.
What a great adventure, and I must say I'm very impressed with your driving skills. It can't be easy driving such a large vehicle down those tiny country roads and then all the way to Manchester. Well done ! 👍😁
I drove these in service, they were my favourite, very smooth and felt like driving a tank
Love what your doing, hope your able to save this old girl and give her the TLC she requires. Looking forward to seeing her when complete.. well done guys. 👍🏴
Great to see! Beware of low bridges guys... know your bus height 👍
Thankfully it says near the drivers' cab what the height is so hopefully they know this for when thy take it about!
Wow how have I only just found this channel 😮it’s amazing I love it and you boys are nuts 😂and hilarious ❤
Gosh how wonderful - you lads would not be out of place in a 1960 adventure film
No idea why this was suggested for me, I'm not in to buses or trains, but I enjoyed watching this and subscribed because it'll be fascinating to see the old girl restored.
I'm excited to follow the repair and restoration progress...
Well done Lads so far 👍🏼subbed liked and following from Edinburgh Scotland , Very interested in the Restoration 👌🏻
Really good news you have purchased a Volvo Olympian :)
Amazing video. What a cool video. Accidentally ran into your channel. Cool! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Three cheers for the enthusiasm of youth! In my late 70s I would have packed the car with every tool and spare I could muster but would never have had the foresight to include a toothbrush!! However, the bus looks really good and should be a great restoration so, good luck with it and looking forward to following your story.
Welldone guys, right in my back yard, great to see your bravery with these projects, I used to love sorting up old gear when younger, buying old caravans selling the aluminium, and making car trailers, to get a bit of cash for next project, then it led onto cars, a good few before I was age to drive, then did damaged repairable, great times, and glad to see young lads still tinkering with mechanical engineering
well done guys!
I've seen this listed online in the past, this example is one of 40 Volvo Olympians delivered to Stagecoach Newcastle in 1995/96 after Stagecoach Group took over Busways Travel Services in July 1994. Would be great to see it restored in the classic stripes livery.
That livery is indeed the plan!
Buy anything secondhand from Newcastle and it will be trouble 😂😂
Quite a few of these N-LTN Newcastle Olympians were transferred to Aberdeen when they were approx 12 years old and were in service for another 2 or 3 years..One or 2 were painted yellow and used on school contracts in North Aberdeenshire, which presumably was the case of N728.
New sub, looking forward to the next vid..
ben great video and trip looking good to seeing you and guys restore this bus . lucky you got good mates to help you 😊 👍
Looks a lot safer with the leaning problem sorted great job getting it home 👍🏻
I absolutely love this. Great adventures bodging what ever you need to, to get home, now loads of fun to be had in the future with what ever you plan to do with it. Love ut
Brilliant video best of luck with the Olympian
I collected a blue one from there years and years ago. Delivered it to Liverpool docks for export to the USA. I had numerous problems with it and it took 3 days!!
New to Stagecoach Stockton, great addition for preservation. Well done.
I was thinking the LTN was a Newcastle reg?
It was the first set of new buses we got just after stagecoach took over Newcastle Busways in 90s
I used to drive Volvo Olympians for First and Stagecoach in Devon, The Stagecoach ones i drove were city spec with the Voith autobox and just dead gutless but at first we had a couple of town and country spec Volvo's with the bigger engine capacity and ZF autoboxes, They sounded bloody great and went like $hit off a shovel for a bus! 👌
The good ones had the Cummins L10 engine and yes, they do sound great. In fact, when running right one of the best sounding engines ever made. They were used by ERF in their late 80s/early 90s trucks. They are known in the trucking world as Hummin Cummins.
That looks like an old Bournemouth Yellow Bus.. ☘
Great video and look forward to seeing more on this. That plate on the bus looks very familiar. If im correct it was 1 of 30 new to stagecoach newcastle. If im wrong im wrong but i do think it is. Keep up the good work.
Iain your right we received these just after the take over by Stagecoach, I’ve driven this bus many times in Newcastle on the Service 1 route.
I own an MCW and a Alexander, I've converted them, if you need any advice just ask. Good luck
We had a fleet of 5 Olympians delivered new in 1990 to Swindon and district bus co, fantastic bus to drive
Shes knackered on the left side. Hope you get her working pal 👍👍👍
I'm pleased you made this video at 60 frames per second, it's much easier on the eye compared to the jittery old 30 FPS that most UA-camrs video at (some even use 25 or 24, so hard to watch).
Great adventure well done lovely to see it
well done great fun doing that road trip
Cliff Richard never had those problems. Well done lads👍👍👍👍
I no you are going to restore it and fair play to you being a young lad it would make a great mobile home shame you have a problem 3 miles down the road with the bus but amazed you didn't get pulled over as it leans over bad on drivers side
1996 is the year of the bus.
N is 1995
@@MHLivestreams And 1996 since it’s from September to March.
@@JamMC September to September in those days if I'm correct there, most were manufactured 95 and prior.
Cant wait to see how this progresses. 😄
Fixing a doubledecker bus with a toothbrush is like something out of Monty Python. But much respect!
Enjoyed that lads well done
Such a cool bus. Turn it into an RV and travel the world.😊
When you insure her, I can recommend Footman James in Birmingham, who specialise in preserved vehicles. I believe you can get breakdown cover as an option.
Well done Ben ❤
There are some crazy photos of this buses history online!
The operating company that had this bus prior to you getting it are pretty well known for their rubbish maintenance of the vehicles. This can be looked up pretty easily also.
Well looking at its MOT record it last failed in 2017. That's a pretty good track record of first pass since, which is DfT benchmark.
I hope you got home
subscribed, waiting for the restoration videos
Excellent!!!
Having one bus is one thing, but having four and counting is another!
A tooth brush, that's gotta be the best bodge of the year
You will have to learn the song. All together now. The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round all Day long😂😂😂
I am visibly jealous.
That's one thing that stopped me buying on and moving it just 10 miles, never mind 400 to a potential new home. All it takes is for a wheel to become seized and then you've got 14 tons of bus to get recovered.
Banff? Where are the mountains? 😂
That’s quite the bus.
North East coast,no mountains..
Make sure you find all air tanks as water collects and will rust out the tanks and the air dryer is working as water will course more air preasure problems.
It makes a great motorhome
I live near Santoft transport museum , one of the restorer's told me it cost £50k to recover the older leather seats in a double decker - and they already had the frames and cushions ! .
Sadly I’m sorry to say they’ve had you on with that figure! Most we ever spent on a leather re-cover on the interior was £8k and that was a stunning job!
@@DoorstepBrewing Maybe so as they were after more money for the restorations they had on .
Them 2 little drill holes in the tank made a mess in the yard
One of his better decisions.
I drove these when I was at Stagecoach Manchester
Was this bus from Bournemouth originally? It looks the right colour yellow but the reg number doesn't look local? We did have some of these back in the day.
It's an old bus, so there's bound to be mechanical issues with it. I remember going on one of these and it broke down back in 2016, but I was told by the bus driver that it was unsurprising since it's an old one, but wasn't going to be in public service much longer as I was told that by the end of the year, all buses in public service have to be low floor under the disability discrimination act.
Air suspension lowers the front, which is no problem installing on any bus.
@@MHLivestreams Yeah, but I've only seen low floor buses "kneel" to let passengers with reduced mobility or are carrying prams/pushchairs on and off the bus. The issue why stepped entrance buses couldn't be used on public bus routes at the end of 2016 unless it was a vintage bus service (which remain exempt from that rule) is because they're not wheelchair accessible, and that's why buses now have to be low floor because many of them are wheelchair accessible and they have to have space for at least one wheelchair.
New sub! Ace video 👌
Got a rum! Lean to the right on it
Is the rear offside spring knackered, it's got a distinct lean on that side ?
How's the progress going with this project Ben, any further updates to follow
17:06 still in- “BEEP” “silence” “HEY”
Nice looking bus tbh
vice gripe garage... beware; breakdown safety signs are not needed with a yellow bus. this is going to be an enjoyable series
I'm expecting great things from this debacle!
Come across this random video on youtube and see the exact bus i told my mrs that i was going to buy months ago 😂 small world
I think it was suggested for me because of all of the conversions to campers etc. 🇿🇦
I really thought you were about to crawl totally under it and start fiddling with the level rod then... I thought I was watching a snuff film!!!
Awesome stuff :)
Much entertaining than car wow, Tesla, vs M4 vs spaceship.
hope it is economically viable to perform a full restoration any thoughts on turning it into a mobile home?
Stagecoach buses are always getting sold now
When i clicked i just assumed you would make it a house or a pub or something. It never entered my head you would keep it as a buss .
What on earth are you going to do with it ?
Brilliant
What's happening with the bus now? have you did anything with it yet?
It'll make an excellent double decker hen coop.😜🐤
The coolant issue was a doddle, but the suspension collapse on the offside? Was that a permanent fix? If so, congratulations, and subbed.
That's a terrifying amount of lean on a double decker 🤣
Awsome😊
My 1st car a little Vauxhall corsa was N628LTN sadly long gone
I have subscribed for the first time.

If you have a cooling leak after u ve fixed if you have got enough water but a container just find if there was a stream and fill your container up with water and fill it up .i ve had to do this in emergencey mine was a leak in my rad.it worked to.get me home then i had to replace the radiator
This is going to be interesting. I thought you did trains. A bus can be a train... Life choices, and all that.
Nice bus , full of character ( shame about the Tesla tho😊).
Does this model have a strip bell 😮
Brilliant well done lads 💪
Smart Deutche Bundesbahn overalls !
When’s the next video coming out?
That’s looking shiny! What sort of mileage has the bus done?
The North of Scotland? There's a lot of Scotland North of Banff. Try bringing a bus from Tongue or Durness!
