I simply removed that useless ‘drain plug’ and fitted a shouldered black silicone bung that fully seals the hole. I can easily remove the bung periodically to air dry the compartment and allow any moisture to come out. I can sponge wash, hose or pressure wash where the bung is fitted and it cannot be dislodged and it’s fully waterproof. Shouldered silicone bungs in a huge range of sizes are easily found on eBay in packs of ten from China, and they’re really cheap. BMW could have done the same instead of getting the cleaner to design that pointless and ineffective……..whatever it is🤔
I looked on the Internet for shouldered beak nipple found some but not the right size. Thought they put it out to local nursery's for the kid's to design.
Hi, thanks. nothing to difficult on the GSA. I use the SWM for proper off-roading check the video out, well there a few, but the last one got some stunning scenery and nice off-road shots. And a big thanks for watching.
My hole was badly botched by the dealer and the nipple totally loose. Looked like a 5 year old had attacked the swing arm. I complained to BMW directly but they want me to go back to the dealer who I will never use again. I have glued the nipple in place with polymer glue. Good riddance....
@nikoscosmos Not seen that I'm going to a motorad center tomorrow. I'll have a look. Had seen on some older bikes they were fitting a breath, they called it. On the top end of the shaft tube.
@@nikoscosmos it’s still the same nipple that the dealerships are fitting, I’ve been in and checked every brand new bike in the showroom and all the same, Screwfix must have had a good stock of them in (lol) because they’re not specifically made for the job that’s for sure.
And still everybody is buying them... each brand, model has issues. This is peanuts! Iff it's loose glue it if it's not your fine. Lube the rear splines of the shaft every 10.000km when you use the bike a lot as 4x4 or tractor (takes 10 minutes) with staburags and you won"t have any problems. Roadriders do this every 20.000.... I have several mates with 200.000 and more on their LC's, without the famous hole and the first drive shaft... so it's not all trouble.
Mine has just had a new shaft fitted and the duckbill drain fitted. Felt underneath and in it went. I’m not accepting it, it’s utter shit. I agree it should have shoulders on both sides. No way I’m taping over as water is getting in somewhere and it will bugger another shaft. The nipple is not fit for purpose. I just cannot understand how everyone is just accepting it
Forgot to say it’s booked back in for inspection and they’ve as a start giving me a free MOT next year and 10% discount off next service. I’ve spoken to some other folks and theirs is a tight fit 💁
The suggestion of putting tape over the hole was to cover the hole temporarily until you get a replacement fitted. Rather than gunk the hole up with silicone. Mine is a good fit in the hole, but still able to push it in if you push on it. Yes, it's a poor job. BMW has just gotten a part from somewhere. And it's not fit for the job.
@@davidmallia628 correct drill but it’s just a cheap rubbish solution. I don’t think the duck bill bung will ever release water as for these 2 work they need a decent amount of water behind it so it will open to release, but that’s probably why they are offering free checks after so many services now even after this valve was fitted. But at least they try 😂
@jimariel6785 Don't know how to send you a picture 😢 if I have to lift the bike again, I'll show how to sling and lift it. I only have a steel beam I put in when building the garage and use a chain winch or pull lift nylon straps.

Congrats for the off-road ride!

I have been looking for a better design. Simple, but why have BMW put such a poor product on there bikes.
@Kengs Adventure I understand that on new production bikes a nipple is fitted top and bottom.

So they drill the hole, and probably have used an oversized drill bit!???

Wonderful!! Thank You!!! Was the nipple Dealer installed or Factory installed?
It was installed during a service. Cotswold BMW a main dealer.
@@kengsadventure1806 Thank You!!
What did you jack the rear up with ..thanks
I have a winch and steel beam in my garage.
Could you do a video of your setup or send me some pics, thanks..jim

Great
I got given a handful of these beak valves from my local Motorrad dealer free of charge.
I've never lost one yet. But they can get pushed in real easily. Don't know why they don't put a double shoulder on them.
