Woodturning | Basic Bowl Turning in Spectacular Birdseye
Вставка

- In this video I make a basic bowl form an incredible piece of Birdseye maple. There were so many eyes in this that vibration was an issue. No instruction in this one, just real-time turning and some music as my shop was noisy this week. As usual I skipped most of the sanding. I hope you enjoy this video, please comment and like if you don't mind. Thank you to all who watch!

What a lovely way to spend nineteen minutes on a Tuesday evening stopping by to watch an artisan produce a beautiful piece with such economy of motion. Thank you for sharing 🌞
Thank you Ray, I really appreciate it!
Hi, I know everyone is different, but I miss your talking through your projects. Watching is great but hearing you explain what is going on also is very helpful to me. Thanks for your projects. rd
Thanks Roger, I try to mix things up to see what works and there is certainly no clear winner! I appreciate you watching!
The birdseye maple is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you James, one of my favourites to turn.
You made the wood proud, very nice piece.

Amazing!
Thank you Nathan!
Lovely bowl Lewis. A beautiful piece of wood made to look proud by yourself & stands out
Thank you Jim!
Very nice shape, grain and sanding/finishing!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Feels good to back up a little bit and renew that wood working heart. The piece looks great. Miss your commentary.
Thank you James. The world of UA-cam is very divided on whether they want me to speak or be quiet.
I would rather you speak. It’s better than a book your personal knowledge. It’s important. If they don’t want to listen they have a mute button.
Lewis another great job you make it look easy, also great colouring in the wood, well done.
Thank you Alan!
Astonishing piece of wood Lewis and your turning allowed the grain to be the start of this piece.
Brilliant video mate.
Take care Lewis.
Cheers, Huw
Thanks so much Huw!
Awesome,
Thanks Jim!
Such a simple shape, yet such stunning beauty! Great job Lewis!

Nice !
Thank you John!
Dust on the headstock or not, that is a beautiful piece Lewis. The design was carried out well and that birdseye is remarkable. Thanks for showing
Thanks Mark! I have since dusted off the headstock!
Very nice bowl Lewis. Great job turning this special piece of wood.
Thank you Doug! Do you get Birdseye in Kentucky?
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman yes, but it is not as common as you guys seem to have it. I’ve only turned a couple pieces of it that I remember.
Absolutely Gorgeous Bowl. The birds eye is just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing 👍.
Thank you Carl, I appreciate it!
Such a beautiful piece of wood you did it justice!
Thanks so much! You don’t seem angry at all!
Wow, what a gorgeous bowl. Sometimes simplicity is the perfect way to go. Love the grain patterns!
Thank you Jane, the wood is doing all the work in this one for sure!
nice one Lewis
Thank you Michael, I appreciate you watching!
That is very beautiful wood! The simple design makes this an elegant piece! Awesome!
Thank you Sandra! Sometimes the wood is fancy enough!
Beautiful piece, mate, I love your work, but please use narrative when possible, especially if you are using calming background music. I kept having torepeat segments where I was bored to sleep, which certainly doesn't happen during narrated videos. I wish that birdseed maple 2as available here in Australia. Cheers, mate, keep the bevel rubbing.
Thanks Ron, the shop was noisy so I couldn’t chat while working. Thanks for watching!
Awesome wood! Did you source and dry it yourself?
I actually bought hundreds of kiln dried blanks from a gentleman back in 1999. Still have lots left to turn. Thanks for watching!
Hİ 👋👌👍
Hi Erbakan
Is there a way that you know of, to identify the timber as Birds Eye Maple? Before you turn it. While it's still a tree.
I do not live in a area where maple grows , but I have noticed that with willow and Manitoba maple if they have a whole bunch of small branches that die back every winter and regrow then that area of the tree will be birds eye . Lot of the time it will be burl as well , sort of birds eye burl
If you look under the bark you will see pocks. I’ll show this in an upcoming video. Without touching the tree I cannot tell if it will have Birdseye and I’m sceptical of those who say they can. I have a forest technician’s degree from a pretty reputable school.
I’ve seen Birdseye logs and they do not have branches so it may be different in different woods. Thanks for watching!
Would rather hear you explain what you are doing.
Thanks Carl, there was too much noise in the shop to talk on camera this week. I appreciate you watching!
