    This blind test was excellent. And it's amazing how finicky golfers brains are. It seems like the more I play The more picky I get.

    One thing that goes overlooked in driver settings is that you can’t always rely on what the setting is actually going to do what is stated. That is because of something called “manufacturer tolerances” when these clubs are made. Often times loft and lie aren’t always what the manufacturer says they are, when you have to make 500,000 driver heads at 10 degrees of loft and a lie angle of 58 you can bet that they are not going to be perfect. Furthermore the adjustable neck needs to be precisely installed because it is based on very slight tilts to give you what the setting says. This is why you must try just about every setting on the driver because based on the standard numbers being slightly off it will affect those settings as well.

    I tried many different settings before landing on B1 for my driver and 3 wood. I do like that open face look. I get a baby fade with B1. I have my 3 hybrid set at D1. It just felt the best. You have to play around with the Titleist settings to find what's right for you. Great video, Matt!

    Loved the idea of this test…but what do you think about the reality that the best v. Worst was just a difference of .75 degrees of loft? It seems surprising that off all the shots you hit, it was just a slight change in loft that created such a difference. I would have thought going upright or flat would have been more impactful.

    Excellent test and interesting outcome! When I was fitted for my PING G430 last year, the fitter tried every setting available on the hosel and six different shafts. It turned out that one setting (standard) with one shaft (Aldila new NVS) provided the best combination of distance and direction. It seems to me that doing these sorts of exercises are the only way to assess what works and what doesn't for the individual player.

    I would honestly go thru a fitting like this, don’t show me a thing on screen, I don’t want to see a flight, and just find out what set up suits my swing with no adjustments on my part

    Excellent content! I was interested to see what you would feel was the best out of the settings, and thought it was funny my results were the same. B4 with a 9* is my go to setting for consistent results. I use a Graphite design 70 gram shaft though. And although that setting is more fade bias, I still hit a draw as my natural shot shape with it. Thanks again for the content sir!

    The good thing about Titleist adapter is its the same for both RH and lefty. The bad thing is you need the chart. I think Titleist should etch the chart on the sole of the club....
    The left "std" is D4, however I play the A1 which is the RH std. Is it a coincidence that our preference is the same or a stuff up by Titleist as to std setting??

    The two problems with that hosel are. 1. You have to use a chart to know what it means. 2. The settings turns the shaft and grip. Love the diversity of it but not the asthetics.

    I have a Darkspeed max. Position the ball just to the heel of the top alignment marker and keep the club face slightly closed. Changed the heal weight to 8g. Hozzle at standard 10.5 degree loft. That’s what works for me. Castle tees that gets my set height relative to club head height / width. And the rest is ball position setting and width of stance.
    I would assume everyone is a little different.

    I’m a senior golfer, 78 who has lost some distance. In my younger days I fought a slice ,so with years of lessons and frequent playing, 100 rounds a year I managed to change my grip, stronger and alter my swing path. I now hit low hooks, which run along way but don’t go very high. I was tempted to change the loft on my Callaway Rouge ST Max from 10.5 to 12 but was told by a club fitter that would increase left bias. What’s the answer?

    • @jtjtcook4
      @jtjtcook4 8 місяців тому +2

      At 78, the answer is to try XXIO in a 12 degree. Expensive, but you’ll love it.

    • @jeffsena9140
      @jeffsena9140 2 місяці тому

      @@conzmoleman I did try it at the range and it did increase low draw. The solution was a 12* Max Fast Callaway driver with a Mitsubishi 40g shaft . I’m now hitting 50% middle with an even dispersion 25*/25* left right according to my Garmin S 60 data over 100 rounds. With all do respect 30 minutes on the driving range is not sufficient to gauge effectiveness, you need data, Trackman or actual performance!

    I would love to see this experiment as a blind study.
    Let someone else adjust the settings without you knowing what those settings are.
    I’m sure you’ll have an idea where the settings would be close to ,based on the club face, as far as draw or fade bias. Eyeballing loft and lie are a bit more difficult.

    I have my 10 degree Titleist TSR2 set at C2, which is .75 upright and playing at 9.25 loft, which helps me hit a slight draw. When I was playing it at the A1 setting, I found that, on my misses, I was prone to hitting a spinny, high right shot from time to time. The slight upright setting helps me avoid the high right, and if I miss hit it, the result is a slight push shot that still stays in the "short grass."

    It really would have helped if it were truly blind in the sense that a helper determines a random order of the 16 settings, and makes the adjustment, then hands you the club, perhaps with a wrap of masking tape around the hosel each time to hide the setting. Since you clearly know the settings you possibly could affect the results…. Yes?

    Your brain still knows the settings pre-swing. Please grab a partner and have them make the changes without you knowing the settings. Then duplicate this test. You would not know the initial settings nor the results as you are performing the test. Then match the results to the settings and see what you have.

      Of course it doesn't. It's got far too few shots to make any statistical significance at all. That's the problem with all of these golf comparisons in videos, they are completely irrelevant because each of the results is so influenced by the person swinging.. you would have to do thousands of data points in order to see if there really was a difference. That's why we as a group are so easily marketed to, because no one ever tests anything correctly! For example, if you want to say that something is more forgiving how would you test it? Maybe put it on a robot and show us that it's more forgiving after hitting thousands of shots from the center and from the toe or heel? Do any of them do that, of course not. They don't have to, we buy the crap anyway!
