    Splitting Cases, Replacing Crank | Raptor Motor P5
    I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAPPING IN THE MAIN BEARINGS FROM THE INNER RACE!!! Now that that's out of the way... lol. Here is the step by step process I used to replace the crankshaft in my 2007 Raptor 700R. If you do this yourself, remember to TAKE YOUR TIME... Anyone can do this with the proper tools and patience!

    I MAKE A ROOKIE MISTAKE IN THIS VIDEO! DO NOT TAP YOUR NEW MAIN BEARING IN FROM THE INNER RACE LIKE I DO IN THIS VIDEO AT 17:40! USE SOMETHING THAT HAS THE SAME CIRCUMFERENCE AS THE OUTER RACE OF THE BEARING! USING YOUR OLD BEARING TO TAP IN THE NEW ONE IS A BETTER OPTION THAN THE SOCKET I USE IN THIS VIDEO.
    ***You can all rest easy, I am replacing the bearing and tapping it in from the outer race.***

    A quick tip for press bearings. Take a can of computer dust spray and turn the can upside down and spray the bearings. Don't spray it onto your hands. Its very cold and will frost burn you. But for a quick freeze it works great.

    It was a good example only thing I'd recommend differently is how u installed the main bearing. You should never hit a bearing on the inner race, due to the fact that you can actually create alottt of play and worst case just completely blow the center section or off the outer race! That center section is essentially free floating so by pressing on the outer you are pushing on the main body of the bearing and the center of it will be stress free and will follow the outer wherever it goes. If at all possible I try to use something that will lay perfectly over not only the main bearing but also the inner completely evenly. The old race for instance works great! Good job!

    You should clean the engine cases with a scotch brite wheel on the buffer that you have.

  • @supertedogpriken
    @supertedogpriken 5 років тому +2

    U know that gasket sealer you cleaned of the outside of the engine. the same amount will also get on the inside of the engine and clog the oil screan and get in the bearings. hopefully it does not starv the engine/bearings of oil.

    I know you have been over the bearing you tapped in. I see that you also know that Hot Rod Cranks have a high failure rate. When this engine explodes you will not know which failure to blame. For everyone, please replace that bearing. That will leave no doubt if the crank fails. Love the videos. Just want to see it done correctly.

    I have to split the cases on my raptor. I only need to replace the left side case, so can I leave the right side case intact and leave the transmission in? Or are there bolts inside the right side case?

    Hey man for future reference you may want to try putting your cases in the oven for about 30 minutes at 400* farenheit that will allow them to expand quite a bit. Couple that method with bearings and your crank in the freezer and youll sail smooth. Just be careful to not burn yourself!!!

      X2 on the oven method.... I do 30mins at 225F and freeze the bearings over night.....They will drop right in. Same thing for the crank.

  • @julianojanuario6383
    @julianojanuario6383 6 років тому

    Always use grill or oven to remove and install bearings. They drop right out & in at 220 degrees. Torch can warp the case.

    • @julianojanuario6383
      @julianojanuario6383 6 років тому

      Also never torch a bearing. Find a socket that fits snug inside the inner race of the bearing, torch the socket for a while then hold it inside the inner race of the bearing for a couple minutes. The crank will slip right in the bearing, won’t have to pull the cases together.

    Awesome Mike 《☆》kudos for filming this task Bro. I see peeps are already roasting Your nads about bearing installation. Good rule of thumb is never transmit the load thru the bearing so You will be putting pressure on whichever race is contacting the mating part. If You don't have the right size socket then a hammer & brass drift punch is acceptable with light taps around the circumference. Sometimes a brass punch is too wide so switch to a steel one that is small enough. For heating I use an electric heat gun & monitor the temp with a laser targeting thermometer that You can get for $20 at Harbor freight. Good luck with it Man. Always good content on Your channel & that one song will be in My head for a while. Daahh Daaahh Dattt thuukka thukkaa dahh dajjj ☻

    Hi mike, I’m in Nova Scotia Canada, and me and my buddies watched most of your videos as we are a distance from a decent repair shop, and we’re broke ass running on a serious budget. I’m in middle of installing a new cylinder and piston kit , it’s a cylinder works jug with a matching vertex piston set, while doing installation I noticed my timing chain was kinked and the auto tensioner was maxed, I guess that explains the racquet I was hearing, so I’m putting in a new timing chain, I’m noticing my piston rod can move ever so slightly side to side , bout a half mill each direction, is this normal, it’s not sloppy just side to side ...any advice is appreciated

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  6 років тому +1

      I know, that's why I recommend against it; I should have used the old bearing to tap it in. But in reality, I don't think the bearing is bad from light taps. It will be a test; if it blows, you'll know about it and I'll re-do it.

      Hopefully you plan on replacing that bearing haha. The worst possible thing you can do to a bearing is hammer on the inner race. As soon as I seen this I paused and hit the comment section. I wouldn't run that engine after hammering on an inner race let alone a main crank bearing. I know you wanna do it right brotha, right thing to do would be replace that bearing. Either way, still enjoying the projects bud
