I agree with Brad. Add a ball bearing and then I would drill out a detent for the ball to grab into in the open and closed position. I like it and will add it to my list of things to make. Learning a lot from you. Thank you.

Great idea, but I think hes trying to keep the work, time and cost to a bare minimum for such a small part in hopes to increase profit and production speed. Its a fine line to skirt. But great idea!

along with it's intended purpose, that's a great example of detail work using your birds eye punch. Nice work there and thanks again

You sure know a lot about the blacksmithing techniques, but what strikes me even more is your imagination. There is a lot of identity in your work, things are not all "by the book", seen over and over again. Imagination, creativity is a huge part of a craftsman. Great looking latches !

I'm wondering about how long the spring will last and if adding a "slider" to the end of it would work better in the long run. Maybe something like a rivet with a mushroom shape head so the shaft fits down into the spring, but the head is wide enough to fit into the hole and compress the spring in as well. Either that maybe a small ball bearing that can roll along the surface between the plate and shaft.

I had similar thoughts.....curious to see how the spring will last long term

This is begging not just for a bearing but a tiny detent for a little positive engagement "click" open and closed.
