Those things look great and the sounds are awesome, too! Is it just me or has the radio chatter become a little bit more realistic sounding as of late?

Great looking locomotives. Loved the angle of the last shot running the trains. I also liked what William had to say. Yes I am one of those guys. Decided to go command around the time base 3 was announced. I have a handful of higher end locomotives I can only run conventionally. Ken.

Nice review of the Atlas O Premier SD70m-2 Vermont Railway locos, Chris. Bright red finish, similar shade to CP Red, which I see frequently living across the street from their main into Hamilton, On. The Vermont Railway model nice looking engines, and look very powerful. I hope you get your delivery soon. Thanks for this great review.

Yep, we're at the point where if you see an Atlas blue "chicken wire" box you know there's gonna be something good inside!
    Thanks Chris!

@@ChrissTrainsandThings Thanks Chris! And I'm sure you feel the way I do, after so many years of "On again-off again, maybe-maybe not, should-we-shouldn't we?" apparant indecision on Atlas' part it's good to see them getting serious about the O Gauge market. Competition in anything always works to the customer's benefit.

Nice review and video Chris. I just got the GT version of this engine. I also have an Atlas O GP60 in the same Vermont Railway paint scheme.

Since you like scale, you should try the 2 rail version. Since it’s DCS it runs fine on good 3 rail track. All you have to do is install the rollers. At least that’s the way MTH worked.

Chris..I think I need to share this with you, sir. In the early to mid 2000s I purchased over 25 Atlas O TMCC, well equipped engines, new in box from my friend and distributor Bob Thatcher of AM Hobbies. What a mess. My failure rate of un run or run less that 4 hours engines has been abysmal. More that 50% of the engines have had board failures and other ones have had the "zinc pest" where the metal frames, couplers and necks just powdered, warped or broke. I have sent 5 of them back over the past two years in order to have new boards placed. Average cost is $70 shipping from Colorado to New Jersey, 275.00 for a board, and $70 shipping back. A year ago I had a Vermont Central RS board replaced at a total of about 395.00 and yesterday went to run it and it has another bad board. It jerks forward then stalls. I have not had a metal fracture or board issue with a single MTH, Lionel or K-Line engine. I was the word's biggest Atlas O fan but they have serious and malignant quality issues that they fail to address. The warping and breaking metal issues are the worst. I have a good 3 to 4 engines destined for the garbage can as the metal frames warped, curled and busted the shells. They are not able to be rescued. If you desire any video or pictures of these majority of catastrophic failures let me know. Enjoy your engine but please be aware and beware of the issues they have please.

That was an ATLAS issue back then NOT an MTH issue. Hence all ATLAS proto 3's will not have this problem! Beware dude!

Yes, these SD70M and SD70ace models come in 2-Rail with fixed pilots and scale couplers. The wheel sets can be swapped for 3-Rail. Rollers come in the 2-rail box.

So can you run Lionel’s operating system along with a TIU/DCC on the exact same section of track? Do they operate on different frequencies if yes ? I ask cos Atlas seems to have an energy about them, which peaks my interest about buying some of their locomotives (as others have mentioned here).

I can't get a Lionel base or MTH TIU too. Thanks to the chip shortage, killing production of them.
But, from everything I have seen, the signal from the Lionel Base can pass through the TIU.
You did write DCC. That is different from MTH DCS that the TIU uses. DCC from what I have seen, does not work with the MTH DCS TIU & Lionel Base.
DCC is mainly used outside of O gauge. Although some MTH & I think Atlas can do DCC too. It seams it is mainly 2 rail O Scalers that use DCC.

A lot of people have started putting blunami in their 3 rail trains using tsunami decoders. It actually works pretty well, you just need a bridge rectifier and to know how to solder

Legacy and DCS can work on the same track. DCS signal goes through the track while Legacy is through the air. Sometimes DCS engines don't like being on the same track as a legacy engine though.
