  • How can Ukraine protect itself from missile strikes? There is air defense grid, but the threats remain. Air shield over Ukraine - how to create it? Let's look at the air defense systems that Kyiv receives from the West and their effectiveness. What are the advantages of NASAMS complexes and Aspide guided missiles, which were donated to Ukraine? How real is the threat of 'carpet bombing' in the Syrian scenario? Forecast of military analysts. Creation of an 'air shield' for Ukraine: what it can include and how it will be created. All of this was discussed in the new video by Oleksii Matsuka.

I'll get straight to the point. No flowery language. Ukraine needs air superiority over Ukrainian territory. I hope that NATO are currently training Ukrainian pilots in proper modern jets. F-15. America is phasing them out and they are STILL top of the foodchain if armed with AMRAAM. This should be at or around the top priority. Glory to the Hetman. Slava Ukraini !

Even some F16 are available, but of old tech. Armed with the right missiles they could be THE difference in this war. I guess 25 would be enough for that approach.

I heard it takes a long time for pilots to learn the F-15. This is one of the main issues.
So instead, former Eastern Bloc countries are giving Ukraine their Soviet fighter jets and we're attaching more modern weapons to them.
But yeah, it would be something to see Ukraine launching air strikes using F-15's wouldn't it?

Destroy Russian missile launch sites and planes before they can take off. That would require some direct involvement by NATO air forces, but we are already involved. I want the war to end, and that would end it.

      - "Ukraine needs air superiority over Ukrainian territory."
It might be useful, but if you think that solves the problem of Russian missiles and cheap drones, it doesn't. There are reasons why western fighter planes haven't been given to Ukraine. They are difficult decisions, and they aren't made lightly. Do you really have the expertise to asses the consequences of that decision? It's easy to make demands when you don't have to take responsibility for the consequences. Whether Ukraine gets western fighter planes during this war or not, or whether it gets them sooner or later, Ukraine will win this war, and it won't take very long. According to the recent comment by the former General and Commander of the US European Forces, Ben Hodges, the war will be over next summer with all the occupied areas, including Crimea, in Ukrainian hands.

American jets and tanks are not coming to Ukraine during this war. To pretend that pilots of the UA can learn to fly them and they can be maintained in country is not realisitc. Same for US tanks.
During an ongoing war, one can easily see the direction UA is being guided.
Get russian tanks and planes from wherever you can. Period.

Norway did and is doing a lot, given what they overall can do. Germany could deliver tanks and light tanks, but that's a political decission and depends on certain people within the government and Scholz's party. Giving up more weapons from the Bundeswehr isn't going well, because they're already stressed out there. Industry could give "Leopards", "Fuchs", etc., but it's a question of supply and repair chain too. There aren't simple answers to complex questions, I wish it would go some easier.

More Gepard would be helpful, but the ammunition is already a problem not really solved. Airdefense systems are not standing in droves around and missiles for them are also not really in stock. What would help were F16 with adequate equipment like missiles, but NATO don't want supply Ukraine. All other systems, even ATTACMS, are numbered I guess and the US doesn't want to empty their warehouse. So, it's not so simple to answer all the requests from Ukraine. Europe isn't prepared for a war like this and every country has to decide what it can give without standing blank. Industry isn't ready to produce ammunition and missiles in that amount either!

During the Battle of Britain, The RAF was able to fend off a numerically superior Luftwaffe through the integrated use of Radar. Radar data was fed to a central control station where threats were identified and prioritized. Resources were dispatched to respond to these threats in the most effective and efficient means possible. Now Ukraine faces a plethora of aerial threats. She is forced to make do with a hodgepodge of air defense systems that were not envisioned to be working together. This is a seeming weakness, which could be turned into an incredible strength. The very number of systems hints at a wide variety of capabilities. Stingers, HAWK, Croatale, NASAMS, Aspide, etc. They could be placed to deal with those threats that they are best able to defeat. The shorter range more mobile systems could form a screen of both defense and detection. When Russia launches a blizzard of aerial weapons aimed at Kyiv or another area, the frontline defense system can respond by _reporting _ the attack while thinning out the more easily dealt with weapons, such as helicopters, slow drones, and the slower cruise missiles. An integrated control center can collate the data from early reporting into a picture of what is happening and what are likely targets. More powerful resources could be launched against the more capable Russian weapons. The success rate of these Russian attacks would be seriously limited, because the right defense would be employed against the right threat, and a more complete picture of the attack as it is progressing means fewer enemy weapons get missed.

I am certain that the Ukrainian military will use these systems competently. They should help kick out Russia from ALL of Ukraine. Of course there is always the remote chance Russia will wake up, pull out their troops from Ukraine and re-deploy them to the Chinese border, where I suspect they will actually be needed. Stay strong and resilient Ukraine -- you will prevail!!! 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇦

Sweden has a bunch of fighter jets in storage. As a Swede it is heartbreaking that we are not sending them to Ukraine. 😭
Sweden has had 1 enemy since WW2: Orcland. Everything we have is designed to defend against orcs, including our fighter jets.
Yes, UA pilots can learn to fly Gripens. Saying that they can't learn how to fly them is not a valid excuse to not sending our jets. Gripens are airplanes, not spaceships. They are not impossible to learn.

Sweden sent 15.000 30 year old used helmets in the beginning of the war to Ukraine. THEN sent a bill of 90 million Swedish kronor to EU´s fond for aid to Ukraine for the 15.000 helmets. There are MANY things Sweden can improve currently in their "unselfish support" to Ukraine.

And let me add. RIGHT NOW several independent nations have given Sweden security guaranties. Danes, Norwegians, British and Americans have pledged willingness to die to protect Sweden if attacked while your NATO application are in process. NOT something that seems to be an issue in Sweden that have stayed out of war NOT showing willingness to die for principles when it comes to others. MAYBE time Swedes realises the world are watching you hard right now and few are impressed.

The West should also think long and hard about helping Ukraine deal with the missiles and drones where they are launched. That is the only practical way to stop them. At least give Ukraine a big boost to arms shipments. Make Russia pay for their ruthlessness.

The need MEADS. Germany has already switched to MEADS it came out in 2015 as a replacement for Patriot and can shoot down ballistic missiles. A single MEADS battery can protect eight times more area than the Patriot missile battery. This is the last thing they will need to take out the ballistic missiles.

We (the US) have mountains full of HAWK missile systems that work very well against aviation, I hope we get you a bunch of the trailer mounted C-RAMS for the drone problems. Those can shoot artillery shells down too would be great to go along closer to the front. You have russia on their heels, this feels like how ww2 went. Germany had early gains but as the rest of the world geared up it became a real snowball effect against Germany. This sure looks like whats happening in Ukraine now. You guys held in there and pushed those losers back and now your getting stronger by the day while they are spiraling down the drain.

Historically, post-1945, there’s something arms producers like about war, over and above the opportunity to sell more weapons. In the televised and social media age, modern war offers the chance for vendors to showcase their offerings AND to fine tune and modify different weapons systems (and this is often as a result of problem solving and threats that hitherto have been totally unforeseen).
