Hey guys,
This is Michael- the guy who helped Won film and upload it to this channel, 8 years ago. We did this late at night on Won's last day in Los Angeles, visiting out here from Hawaii.
Won is not on the computer very much. I apologize to everyone who has had trouble following Marcio's diagrams and this video series. It was aimed to be a supplement to the diagrams- not on full-on, professionally filmed and edited video that carries a raw beginner from step A through Z. This is a rather complex model and to save us time, we started at the scales, rather than the beginning. If you can't follow along from this point, then, to put it kindly, you probably need more practice.
Since this video, there are a couple of other video tutorials floating around out there (please note: Without the consent of Won Park). Hopefully these are more helpful to you.
I'm put off by so many rude comments from people who don't sound very deserving of further help. Won had his friend Marcio create diagrams (many hours put into this. Are they perfect? No. But better than nothing for those with a passion to try and fold this model). Won then made these diagrams freely available across the internet. For those searching for them, just run a Google search. They're also in the file section of Won's Moneyfolders Unite Yahoo group. And of course, they later were published in his first book.
Personally having known Won for well over 16 years, I can tell you that he is extremely generous with people. So it saddens me just how demanding and ungrateful some people are across cyberspace. Sorry if these videos wasted your time; we felt our time was well spent when we could have been doing other things on Won's last night in Los Angeles instead of trying to help people out there who ached to fold the koi.
Again, even with the best of tutorials, this is a challenging model. I've seen few people- even advanced folders- who can shape it as well as Won Park does.

I think the author is more than generous. The diagram is free, and the time he put the videos together, people should not be complaining!
I suppose I should have clarified in the description that rather than a tutorial, these videos were meant to assist those working from the diagrams as a kind of supplement- not a replacement. Part of the thing is, this model is going to be a challenge for many of those complaining, even if Won himself were teaching you personally.
i posted on the final tutorial cuz i finally finished the thing, albeit not the won park way, but the best i could do with what was given and i'm pretty darn happy with the final piece(s; i made three, in total). i'm not an origami person but when something interesting comes along, i go for it. there's a 3-d xmas stocking out there that was worthwhile for my xmas giving this past year but i digress. i decided to post at the beginning as well cuz i remember there were some negative posts and at first, i was in their corner cuz it was frustrating not having the koi handed to me on a plate like some tutorials are able to do but push came to shove, i figure it out (mostly--i don't have the kind of needle nose plier park had so i skipped some parts). i know it seems like a teaser to get you to this point only to realize, hey, the emperor's got no clothes or hey, you should know how to pleat already, whydoncha (something another poster implied) but life happens and if this is the thing that really knocks you up the side of your head, then you totally have it easy. once you get over this koi-from-hell hump, the rest is cake. for me, i just had to dig my heels in and do it and that was half the battle. note: i also looked at the time-lapse vid to get the first parts, but later i realized it could be done even better, and believe it or not, the diagrams helped (not for the later part w/the head and fins, which park did; way too confusing for me but thass why park went over those in detail--too bad about the fuzzy vid, tho).
May I please have some help? I understand how to form the body/scales but when it gets to folding the head I really get confused. Thank you!
I bought a digital copy recently (mid 2019) I'm assuming these corrections are updated?
will you please show us how to do the folds from step one. I just can't understand your instructions.
These videos were never meant to be a replacement but a supplement to the diagrams.
The thing is, the onus isn't on Won to put out a better tutorial for those rudely demanding it and those who don't seem to get that it isn't the tutorial that's the problem- but their own lack of expertise and experience in folding.
Won's done more than his share in freely making the design plans of his koi available to the general masses, at no compensation to himself for his efforts. Yet they demand more...

is there any correct instructions for this out there? all i get is "now that the horribly hard part is done, what? you haven't learned that. Heres a pic. now lets start with step 24" I love the urge to pass on knowledge, but if its nobody can follow is there anything really being accomplished?

The happypuppytruffles helped me a lot but it was changed to private so we can't see it I hVe made the Koi Fish and sold it to banks they love it
I am having a hard time getting the right size paper. 30 x 15.5 cm so that's 10 x 6 in.. That's way to short. I did one last night that was pretty good just went a little off center. I used a 13 x 5.5 it was hard to hold buy easy to see. It's gonna take me a month or more to get this one right.

Yes, this is my old channel (friend of Won's). Won isn't very computer savvy and does not spend a lot of time on the internet. But I helped him with this quick video at a time when he was out here visiting in Los Angeles. We realize the video isn't the best of quality; but we did our best late at night to get something out- and yes, free of charge. The koi diagrams themselves were made freely available (a lot of work for friend Marcio to attempt to diagram) before Won's book came out.

I agree with everyone... Just show us how to do it instead of only telling us to use the diagram (which you yourself said people struggled with).

Its the reason our nation (America) is in such turmoil. Everyone wants the best and latest products without having to pay or work for them. What a shame what a shame, innovators and inventors should be rewarded for their insight. I found a website on the grid with corrections and videos, if there is any way i can get you the link i will be more than happy to help. Since links are not allowed in the comments.

He didn't assume. This is a complex model and because this was made as a quick labor of love late at night during a visit to Los Angeles, he generously wanted to help advanced folders who were having trouble following the diagrams. We just didn't have time to film it from the beginning back then.
He made this when he didn't have to; just as he didn't have to spend time working with Marcio to put out diagrams, made freely available across the internet before he ever published it in his book.

I find it funny that you won't show us the folding yourself. Seems like even you may find it to be a pain in the ass to fold it correctly.

I've followed along with other really complex tutorials, but this one is just horrid. The diagrams are not good whatsoever...Can't even make it past the first page. What in hell???
I've made this several times when my diagram wasn't even in my language. some of it is common origami knowledge bro.
