Grew up in West Covina, listening to Irwindale from my bedroom window (AA/FD and AA/FC's). Convinced my Dad to take my best friend & I to Lions, Irwindale, OCIR, beginning in 1965. He was the Sergeant in charge at LACO Sheriff's office of Shops & Garages, and since the Big 3 auto makers tested out at the Fairplex (road coarse, drag strip, and skid pad), we got comp tickets each year to the Winternationals. Best days ever!!
Oh...if you haven't already, think about transferring those 8 mm films to DVD. Did that with my Dad's super 8 movies, before they turned to dust, best investment in preserving the content. Btw....I just turned 63, and race a 70' Duster in both Super Pro and D/Gas in the Heritage series. Thanks again for the great movies!!
I was on the location back in 2002 doing some survey work for my company. I stood there thinking of all the fast drags that went down there. It was the beer plant at the time. I felt kind of sad thinking of what was once here. Drags forever ✌️
The second race, the black Opel GT with 7723 on the side. Would you happen to have any more video of it ? From OCIR, Irwindale, Lions, Pomona, Bakersfield or Carlsbad? From 72-75 it was Rootbeer brown and burnt orange with flames . Stock Bros 7723 AA/GS or BB/GS on the side If so I would buy it from you Its my Pop's and his partners Larry and Jeff Storck And my Pops name Chuck Tricoli .
Well, I know the quality is poor from all of those old 8mm home movies. However, if you look closely, you can see that much of my c/dragster film is from Irwindale. There is also footage from The Winternationals at Pomona, The World Finals at Ontario, and yes, indeed, some footage at OCIR.
Great video. I recognized some of the cars, thanks for posting!!!

Last item....great music choices too! (listened to KHJ on a transistor radio...pre FM and KLOS)
back in the day when we tried to get as much action on that expensive 8mm film as we could.
Great video. Mostly at pomona. But still way cool. I grew up at both

Nobody talks about the smog...lol! you couldn't breathe if it was a hot day, it was so bad your lungs would hurt..
Winternationals at Pomona.
I wish Irwindale didn't sell out to Miller Brewing! 😠
I'm not sure that's Orange County International Raceway because Orange County's Tower was always on the other side
