Damian Peace Letting Michiko chocolates melt in my mouth & sipping Cherry Liqueur in Lyon, France. Delicious to match this delicious Dorothy Sayers radio drama/mystery.
Hmmmmmmmm . . . at 3:00 (+/-) in, I'm thinking about all of those comments on the Carmichael episodes, the tide generally running in favor of Carmichael over Petherbridge. I'm not far enough into this one to make a judgment on THAT, but I do think, MOST Emphatically, that THIS Bunter is all wrong! Too young, too impossibly good looking, too much of the gloss of upperclassism that Wimsey has. To me, Glyn Houston was the epitome of Bunterism - bulky enough to have carried Wimsey out of the trenches, rough enough around the edges to have been an exceptional WW I Royal Army sergeant, smart enough in a hidden way (mustn't appear to be smarter than the Master!), the apparent non-landed classes accent. My beau ideal of Bunter.
I agree. Richard Morant was completely miscast; Gyn Houston was perfect. I fear that casting wanted to inject a bit of dark eyed sex appeal to the adaptation to counterbalance EP's portrayal. Big mistake. Also Gaudy Night is a cracking novel, but apparently they had different producer/directors who wanted/needed to condense the story into fewer episodes...and ruined it in the process.
I gather that in the larger houses before the war, servants were given training (in diction, etc) as they moved up and Bunter was a footman before he joined up and ended up as Wimsey's batman/aide.
I really hate that non-music music they use during times of no dialogue. It spoils the atmosphere. I had forgotten that was a thing. Otherwise, these are so enjoyable.
"Tell me or tango." Great line; might have to use that myself some day!
@AMT "That would be a caper of quite a different sort," told in the context of eating capers, is a splendid reposts by Harriet.
@amt1960 Nah . . . the Perfect Occasion has yet to materialize, more's the pity! But thanks for asking!
thanks for posting.
watching this in Bangkok eating a local dish and having a whisky with soda. What are you eating/drinking?

Denmark, not eating at the moment 😜
New Zealand: Omelette with fresh salad; strawberries, raspberries and cream for dessert.
Irish in Texas - plenty of cups of tea, with accompanying buscuit, of course :-)
Japan in the middle of the night:
Just finished watching “Have His Carcase” eating homemade berry crumble with coffee ☕️
Bunter is played by the guy that played Dr Dwight Enys in the first Poldark series. Also played Flashman in TB’s School Days.

AGREED!!
Ah... I knew there was a link between Wimsey and Killing Eve somewhere!
Oh dear, this is not my Lord Peter Wimsey but thanks for posting.

Without Miss Herriot's self-indulging character the series would have been so much more enjoyable/relaxing!
Petherbridge far better than Ian, much closer to the description in the book also.
Petherbridge couldn't be beaten, just as David Suchet cannot be beaten as Hercule Poirot
It's not Guady, it's Gaudy.
I think that’s a way to avoid copyright bots
@@00Mandy00no it’s Guoaidy
A kebab in London xx
He's Good, but no Ian Carmichael. JMO
I prefer Petheridge. Wimsey was rarely a silly ass...and when he was it was deliberate not accidental
ugh no! Who are these people? Turning off ASAP.
