I love Hesiod because Works & Days is funny.

I remember thinking in college that Hesiod was analogous to Xenophon with Homer as Plato (one introduction put it as “that is to say, not everyone is a genius”). Now I’m wondering if Hesiod fits better with some of those practical pastoral poets and thinkers from the late 17th and 18th centuries.

Love Hesiod. I didn’t find him until I was a (very) mature adult, so probably that helped.
Marvelous to have these brief discourses on Classical works.

This one sounds wonderful! I’m adding it to my tbr.

Aside from the horrendous misogyny (at least in the Lombardo translation), I kind of enjoyed both books. My favorite line: "Don't let a sashaying female pull the wool over your eyes."

You've inspired to make and post a video about Hesiod! Thanks for the push to put it together.

I quite like Theogony and Shield of Herakles.

I enjoyed the stories in the Theogyny, but found Works and Days a bit tedious to be honest.
