While I still like the collector and find his design cute I'll forever be bothered by what could have been since the collector was the last character to be I introduced they where kept secret and had small hidden detail moments which obviously lead to a bigger story which is why I cant decided if they should have been added in but then how does the day of unity stop (I'm thinking maybe king could stop it but that's alot to think about)
The only reason the collector was in the owl house was Dana couldn't think of a way to save the boiling isles population from belos's destruction other than put them in the collectors "crown castle"
@@LovesArt23 That mean creating a whole new character, it takes time away from characters and possible lore to enhance the story. Hell, she didn't need Belos to succeed. So, while the cancelation sucks, it doesn't justify most of these bad decisions. They were still her own choice.

If you think about it, the clashing patterns could also be a reflection of the collector’s childishness as little kids don’t really know how to dress themselves on their own
We could’ve gotten sooo much with the collector if the show wasn’t cancelled, I shall stand by that. But, he looks like he could be a daycare attendant in security breach with sun and moon, prove me wrong
the collector’s design had SUCH a good chance of being one of my favorites, but for some reason, the colors make me kind of upset? i can’t explain it. it’s like when you have an itch, but when you go to scratch it it disappears and the cycle repeats. like it’s SOOOO close to being good but it’s just not. still, his design is cool, probably my 5th favorite. not really up there but not bad either

The redesign of the Collector reminds me in someway of Peter Pan and Moon & Sun from the FNAF. And I also get the impression that they sometimes like to go fishing while sitting on the moon. As always, great redesign.
For real cause like we got what we needed from him yeah it wasnt the best ending but since they had both the collector and belos back to back it left like bearly any time for the collector aka the new character
…I have a strange uncontrollable urge to draw fanart of this design in my sketchbook… No but seriously the designs on this channel are SOO delicious. I could honestly picture a toh future reboot using this design of the collector and it would not feel out of place whatsoever. I also really enjoy the idea of the collector having a tantrum because it would really sell on the fact that they’re an overpowered child who could literally murder someone at the end of the day, making him even more threatening as an antagonist- at least while they’re still against the protagonists. Damn the cancellation for robbing us of Collector screen time!

Also, I’m thinking about how the animators could’ve played around with their powers because if they were to freak out I think it would’ve been interesting if there were some visual changes to their design for that scene, maybe the lighting could be played around with especially since they have a lot of celestial imagery in their design. Honestly I’m really sad we didn’t get to explore more of his powers and having a scene like this would have been such a great opportunity to sprinkle some info about that in. Overall it would’ve fit his character a bit more and I’m obsessed with the idea of having that, it would’ve made the moment so much more powerful 😭
I always thought that the collector felt weird in session 3 but never knew what exactly it was, but you just spelled out all my problems with him, he really felt different from his introducton and his session 3 patrale, also love the redesign, love your art (pun intended) 💕
Stellar design and insight. Personally, the Collector lost a bit of his theatrical appeal when conflated as a child rather than an entity with frivolous tendencies. Yes, Philip may have been an adult when first introduced to the Collector, but fundamentally when compared to a cosmic being, human mortality is eclipsed by the enduring. Maybe I'm so used to the mythological classics of ancient deities steering mortals down paths for entertainment or trickery that having the tables turned in TOH felt off. Initially, I thought both had something to gain from their collaborative efforts, Belos the control and absolution his prior existence as Philip denied him and the Collector access to an untapped realm to warp and puppeteer. Both selfish, apathetic, and manipulative, truly a twisted partnership not so often explored but shows just how powerful cooperation can be when used for the forces of villainy. 🍲🧣Hope the holidays treat you well, best wishes!
I love The Owl House. The story, the animation, the music, the characters. It is no surprise the show stands out as a favorite, including mine. But even being a fan cannot make me ignore the flaws of something, no matter how much I love it. I feel while the story was wrapped up well, the series from a writing standpoint was messy. A lot of my gripes with the last two specials involved not using time wisely, the Collector's character being retconned, and ignoring themes of the show. Here is how I would have rewritten the last two specials, and the Collector for the most part. I am by no means a professional writer. I have no idea what was going on behind the scenes and I want to give the benefit of the doubt to Dana and her team. For The Future: The special opens immediately as Luz and her family/friends enter the demon realm. Everyone is on edge after the confrontation with Belos. Luz offers to bring everyone to the Owl House to see if they can find supplies, since they are now stuck indeterminately. When they arrive, a wave of starry energy engulfs the house and surrounding area, bringing the puppetfied citizens of the isles with it. Willow attempt to save one of her dads from the puppet Owl Beast, with Luz trying to save Willow, when the Collector arrives with King, having come to play the Owl House game. King is relieved to see Luz, but horrified to see she is now in harm's way. The Collector is shocked too. King kept the Collector from trying to find Luz and her friends by claiming they would want to ruin their game and that the Hexsquad should be left alone. King manages to convince the Collector not to hurt Luz, and he takes her back to the Archives. He leaves the others by encasing the Owl House in a dome at the request of King. The rest of the Hexsquad and Camila are then saved by a group of resistance members, consisting of Raine, Darius, Eber, the CATTS, and some Hexside kids. Raine explains after the Collector stopped the Day of Unity, Eda attempted to stop the Collector with harpy mode but turned into the Owl Beast. While the Collector dealt with beast Eda, King dropped Raine his collar, who figured out the symbol etched on it neutralized the Collector's magic. Raine has spent the past few months saving the puppetfied citizens, taking them from under the Collector's nose while they play. The Hexsquad's arrival proved the perfect distraction for Raine to save Lilith and Hooty, who the Collector was keeping an eye on due to being important characters for the game, and use the symbol to undo their puppetification. Raine takes the group back to Hexside, which is hidden using the symbol. The group formulates a plan. Using Lilith's memory of Philip's teleportation glyph combo and her knowledge of the architecture of the Archives from being trapped there herself before Raine and co rescued her, the Hexsquad, CATTS, and Camila, teleport into the Archives, to find and teleport all the puppetfied citizens back to Hexside where they can be safe. They manage to teleport all the puppetfied citizens to safety, but Odalia turns up. Having been reduced to the Collector's servant, she decides to capture the group in an effort to win the Collector's favor. The group is divided, with Willow, Gus, and Hunter in one group (Willow has her breakdown arc here with Hunter, as she blames herself for getting Luz caught and not being able to do anything). Amity and Camila manage to defeat Odalia and regroup with the kids and the CATTS. Meanwhile, after having been captured, Luz was brought to the Archives. When they arrived, the Collector dropped Luz to the floor, the impact nearly killing Luz until she is revived by the Collector (While half-dead, she appears in the In-Between Realm, where a mysterious figure tries to get her attention). King is mad at the Collector for hurting Luz, though they try to brush this off, claiming they fixed Luz, and thus it is okay. The Collector asks King to bring Luz to where Eda is being kept underguard by the puppetfied Titan Trappers. Eda is in fact, back in control of herself, and she and King embrace Luz. Eda explains she has seen that the Collector, despite his apathy towards people, is still just a kid, and she has been complying evidence to try and get him to see the error of his ways. However, the Collector arrives, having bugged Luz shortly after reviving her. The Collector is furious that King lied to them about Eda being stuck in beast form and Luz leaving the demon realm on purpose. The Collector attempts to puppetify the girls but King intercepts the shot, though he remains unchanged. The Collector now gets nervous, and after being prodded, King realizes he, as a Titan is naturally immune to Collector magic, and the reason the Collector never tried to puppetfy him is because they already knew and didn't tell King because they were afraid King wouldn't want to play with him otherwise unless he believed the Collector had control over him. The upset Collector reveals he is the last of his species, who after years of distrust and suspicion of the Titans, led to a war where the two species wiped each other to near extinction. The only surviving adult Titan, King's dad, angrily imprisoned the Collector using the tablets as a catalyst. The tablets were made by the Collector as a gift for the Titans. That way, he could always communicate with the baby Titans, who weren't afraid and distrustful of him like the adult Titans. Luz, Eda, and King take the Collector on a tour of the isles, trying to get him to understand the importance of empathy and ethics, while the Collector comes around to the idea that just because he can undo the damage he caused, and shouldn't do damage to begin with, the efforts end up striking a nerve with Luz, as the Collector points out Philip thought he was justified by doing what he did, and that Luz also thinks she is justified because she is a 'good guy' too, which worries Luz because she cannot handle the idea of being like Belos. (This references a cut storyboard in which the Collector questions why Luz would say other people but Belos are complex) The trio are able to make the Collector open to the idea of being more empathetic, and he brings them back to the Archives, where they reunite with the Hexsquad and Camila. Camila and Luz have a heart to heart, which allows Stringbean to hatch. But then they notice the ground below the Archives is shaking, and the sky turns green, with the eye sockets of the Titan glowing blue. The gang realizes Belos is doing something with the Titan, and the special ends on a cliffhanger.
Watching and Dreaming: The special starts out with Luz, Eda, King, the Hexsquad, Camila, and the Collector watching as Belos possesses the Titan, and they narrowly escape the now deserted archives as Belos destroys it with his new body. The Collector explains via a flashback that he told Belos titan hearts can continue to beat long after they die (I find it hard to believe only Belos knew what the Titan's heart and the rest of the isles didn't) and that Titans are technically stronger than Collectors, even being immune to the star species. Belos wanted to use the Draining spell as his first plan because he believed possessing the Titan wouldn't be as effective (In this rewrite, I headcanon that the Draining Spell would have concentrated all magic and used it to destory the demon realm planet, as in canon, Belos' plan was just to kill everyone with sigils) and he made the Titan plan his plan B. Having gotten to the heart during the previous special, Belos managed to possess the titan. The Collector attempts to try and get through to Belos using kindness and forgiveness like in canon, and like in canon, Belos takes advantage of this to try and destroy the Collector. Luz and King both fly up to intercept the shot and are knocked to the ground, both presumed dead and covered in the ever growing Belos-fungus. Luz and King's friends and family angrily try to stop Belos, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Luz and King's souls end up in the In-Between realm, where they meet Papa Titan. The Titan explains while they are dead, their souls have not yet submerged in the In-Between liquid, and thus, have not fully passed on, giving them a chance to heal their bodies and return their souls to them. When Papa T imprisoned the Collector, the force of the spell burned his body away, killing him, though his heart managed to remain intact, and is still beating, thus, making him technically still alive. He is now tethered between life and death, and his soul, like all souls, has passed to the In-Between, a type of realm that acts as the glue for other realms, like the frosting on a cake. Papa T has been able to use the strange boxes to watch over King. He explains the cubes are the Collector's magic. When he trapped the Collector, he used the speaking tablets the Collector gave him as a catalyst, and when the Collector got imprisoned, some of the magic inside the tablets leaked into the In-Between and formed the cubes. Frustratingly, Luz, King, and Papa T aren't 'alive' enough to use the cubes to speak to people, only watch. After hearing how the Titan took his anger out on the Collector, she nervously asks if they are as bad as Belos. The Titan, decides he can't sugarcoat the harsh truth and asks Luz rhetorically if Amity's decision to bully Willow was justified because she was protecting her, or that Lilith shouldn't face consequences for ruining Eda's life just because she didn't think things would get so bad, or that Hunter should receive death like Belos because he thought he was doing the right thing. Papa T explains that while Belos' desire to save humanity from witches comes from a genuine place (This is one of my biggest gripes with the finale. The show went out of it's way to hint that Belos and Caleb might have had a complex and interesting story, only to never answer any of the questions fully outside of vague, second hand tales, and reduce Belos to a hate sink. Belos needs to be stopped but acknowledging the nuance and complexity of a character is not the same as excusing their actions), his belief that he is doing good means his actions are justified. Belos is an extremist, and anyone can become like him if they believe their goals are noble enough to excuse their actions. This strikes a chord with Luz, who has been conflicted with guilt over leaving her mother, as well as her other past actions. King's soul then starts to glow, and Papa T explains Belos inadvertently sealed his fate. Baby titans like King have a special adaption where when they are on the verge of death, or get extremely hurt, their bodies activate a special Titan adrenaline rush, that makes them grow and able to use magic for a short time. King embraces his dad and his soul leaves the inbetween as it returns to his body. King can use his temporary powers to heal Luz so she can lead the fight against Belos, and destory the heart, ending Belos' possession of the Titan. Luz is worried that she will never be able to stop Belos because she doesn't have any innate magical abilites. The Titan assures her she never needed any innate abilities. The Titan then reveals because he is dead, he never had any control over the glyphs, and thus, couldn't reveal them to her. He certainly never would have let Belos find them. Luz and Belos found them all on their own, but Luz found them faster because Belos never took the time to look for them, and actively feared the magic of the Isles (My headcanon is that Belos etched Glyphs onto his body as a reminder to himself that the glyphs were unholy magic, and only brought suffering to mankind). Luz's confidence is brought up, and her soul is brought back to her body as it is healed by King. Back on the isles, King reawakens in a burst of energy, and heals Luz, before growing to massive size as he begins to wrestle the massive form of Belos. Luz informs her shocked and very relieved family and friends that King won't be able to restrain Belos forever, and explains they need to destroy the heart. While Luz and her allies fly to the heart, the Collector, humbled by his inability to heal Luz and King, as well as his lesson on empathy and ethics, is unable to use his magic to fight Titan Belos, so he goes around the isles to protect the freed citizens. With Belos distracted wrestling King, the citizens of the isles rally and begin fighting the infection of Belos-fungus (This could be a nice scene for all the minor background and fan favorite characters like the Blight Twins, Viney, Skara, etc. to do something). This keeps Belos even more distracted as Luz and her friends make their way to the heart. At the heart, Luz's allies help her distract Belos and she manages to slap a light glyph on the heart, destroying it, and all the remaining Belos fungus. The castle collapses around them, but everyone is saved by Hooty, who coils around everyone, shielding them from the debris. As the last of the Belos fungus is wiped away, King returns to his normal size, and everyone embraces. But they notice a tiny bit of Belos glop, and corner it, a hissing, furious, Belos tries to possess someone else, but he is trapped. The Collector has a fitting idea for what to do with Belos, and they trap him in the In-Between. (I found Belos' defeat unsatifying, as it unintentionally makes him a martyr by his standards. It also doesn't allow Hunter to get any last moments with his abuser outside of the fight in Thanks to Them, but this feels more karmic to me, as Belos reneged on his deal to free the Collector). The Collector agrees to stay around, unlike in canon, so he can help fix the damage he caused. He is living with Eda and King, and spends time helping to repair damaged buildings, and he is forming a budding friendship with Hunter and Lilith, too, who are also helping to rebuild the isles. Luz and Camila also reconcile, and Luz begins to move past her black and white worldview. Camila allows Luz to spend time with her friends and visit the isles, but to take her life on Earth seriously too. The finale ends with the timeskip, as Luz celebrates her Quinceanera with her new friends and family.
I absolutely agree with you on the whole 50/50 thing on the collecters personality. Would been interesting if the pushed that more and see how things would play out. Made him far more intimidating as this child possessing an ungodly amount of outwardly power in my opinion. Absolutely loove your design too!
4:14 Now that I think about it, I think this idea could work, let me explain: The nightmare of light could be like an rpg, but in which he should face his friends, but, the moment he realizes that they are not real (This is due to the collector's mispronunciation of the witches' duel) Which would make Luz come out of her nightmare and the collector get angry because according to him she "cheated" to which he now tries to play with Eda. The nightmare of old could be that instead of her family capturing her, they would try to petrify her because they consider her a monster for everything she did, which would trigger a persecution. Luz would appear as a light glyph (This being a foreshadowing of her death) And he would tell Eda to fight her fears, which she would do and trigger the light that would bring her back to reality, However the collector would be angry because he would again say that Luz cheated. In King's nightmare, he would have to flee from all the titan hunters, who would look for him to sacrifice him just like in "Titan, where Art thou' Luz would reappear as a glyph of light, and would tell King to fight his fears of being the only one of his kind, which would trigger that again, The nightmare would end and it would turn into light, which would return King to reality. At that moment where the collector brings out his anger, but in the end, that anger would turn into tears, which would make him just go to a corner to cry. The collector, having spent so much time with Belos and not being so empathetic, would think that playing with the emotions of others would not be a big deal, something that Luz would teach him is not the case, Giving way to the next scene. 4:24 Here, instead of going to the normal places of the characters, we would go to the place of each of their season finales. In the first, they would go to the castle of Belos, In which Eda would explain the reason for her sacrifice, being that she had never used her magic in a good way, until she met Luz,She was the one who would end up saving her with the help of the friends they had made back then, The collector would not understand why sacrificing himself at the end would be something surprising, if according to him,In the end, what is destroyed can be "fixed" by saying that Eda was surely not in any danger, so for him to understand they would move on to the next scenario. "King's tide" being the same one who explains that although it would hurt him to have lost Luz back then, He sacrificed himself because he wanted her to come home, even though that will mean never seeing her again. The collector would interrupt him saying that he was there, and that he was not in any danger either, which belittles his sacrifice. Luz then explains to her that the sacrifices were not given because it was something heroic, but because they protected those who could not protect themselves, to which she says: "Wouldn't it be sad if you couldn't defend yourself? It's at times like these, when people like your friends, family and acquaintances do it, Not because they can, but because they must, and that's the nice thing about having friends, you don't feel alone for being weird. But in that Luz would realize that Eda and King sacrificed themselves for her, and she could not do it for them, to which she says: "I swear I will find a way to make it up to you guys" (Being a foreshadowing to her death) This would mean that when the collector decides to help, he does so because he wants to "sacrifice" himself for those he loves.

I love how vibrant and bright you made The Collector's color scheme here. It really reflects their childlike behavior and enigmatic aura, which is something that made his canon design a bit dull for me. Anyway, idk why but I honestly expect them to say "that's kinda boring" to the others teaching him empathy lmaoooo
The idea that the collector’s siblings could have different markings is interesting! Like imagine if we saw them and they all have different phases of the moon on them. Man I wish we met them 😭 we could’ve gotten more out of our collector

To me the collector was introduced way too late in the series especially considering "season 3". Yes we technically see him or one of his kind when Eda is trying to tame the curse and we see the creation of the curses scroll. But when the collector took over I felt like we were robbed as pulled the rug from underneath Belo's feet. I was so disappointed that he took the back seat after all this build up about Belos and Caleb history. It made Belos way less threatening and interesting. Instead of having more time with characters on the isles, or on earth they had to deal with mabels bubble from gravity falls. I liked the collector and his connection to king and the Titians but to be honest I would have cut him out of the show enterly due to the run time.
Same like yeah itd leave us all going what was up with the moon guy but that would have been fine other then belos needing the collector for the spell which like why hold on to the collector if you have the spell belos has everything he needs why keep the mirror why not break it or hide it or better yet trap the collector in a hunter Clone cant use magic in a magicless body
I felt bad for the collector because he was a lonely kid that just wanted a friend to play with but was always being manipulated by everyone around him to take advantage of his powers.

Unpopular opinion: The Collector's shadow form was way better than his true form. Like, I get that it's better that the Collector is no longer trapped, but his shadow form was much more visually appealing and creative. As a shadow, he could shapeshift and creep around walls, floors, and ceilings. He just warps and transforms to emphasize his words, and just for fun. Just look at how he talks to King. Meanwhile, his true form is just some kid with pj's and face paint. Major downgrade.

Adorable redesign!!!!! The Collector's one of my favorite designs but I much prefer the more monochromatic color scheme you went with, makes them look a lot more inhuman yet still inclined with the "star" theme and such. The more saturated tones are also very nice, his personality always exuded that kind of energy. I think it would have been a nice send off for Collector's little empathy mini-arc by giving him a proper name or revealing his name as a way of humanizing him a little. As corny as his empathy trip was, I feel like it would have been more meaningful if it was about them finding out what he wants for himself now that he's free AND seeing the world now that they're no longer being used as a vessel of sorts.

Funny enough the collector came before sun and moon so I guess you could say the collectors like there creator XD And I'm not sure I didnt get super far into the AU when I first made it my notes just say "the collector" yes no ? XD
Iirc they said they wanted the idea of a chaotic neutral child god character, and when they got news of the shortening they just decided to throw the collector in there
If I recall correctly, I think the collector was added because the show was being canned. like, they didn’t fully know what they were before they were told the show was ending.
The Collector ages super slowly tho (canonically), so in the timeskip they would look exactly the same. This redesign works more for, like, a couple hundred/thousand years into the future
Hey LovesArt23. Thanks for the redesign. I'm not a huge fan of thr design in general because I always felt The Collector's design should be more mystical and entertaining. I get you wanted to add blue and yellows but I always felt the design of the original design suited them. But I enjoyed the design. Yes I do agree your points that Collector could've been expanded upon more. As much as I enjoyed their funny moments I do feel for me he was kind of forgettable. Or a plot field device and a diet coke version of Discord from MLP FIM. Now do not get me wrong I loved the voice acting of Colletor and I enjoyed how gray they are. Thry were just a child who didn't know any better. A curious child who simply wantrd to have fun. And yes I do agree he could've been thr final boss more than Belos. Belos was starting to get boring a bit and I do feel the Titans and the Collectors people was even confusing to understand. I also feel whike I enjoyed Coector's gun moments but I do wished we had malicious intentions. I wished he acted like Discord from MLP. Now look I know Discord reformed but he did the trope better than Collector. Besides being a trickster Discord was a fun trickster that wasnxt afraid to be dangerous. Sure he reformed but unlike The Collector he was still Discord. Still plotting schemes and making pranks. He didn't reform completly as he did do crimes and yet its endearing. Even if the final season of MLP kind of ruined Discord for me he is what The Collector. A chaotic being and a wild card. Collector should've been developed more as being more of a scheming child. Or a evil version of Peter Pan. Or him being like Loki. I wished The Collector was more theatrical and while I wished we had more lore. Maybe we don't need to. I feel The Collector should've been a mysterious creature that was unknown. As much as I accepted Collector redeeming himself his backstory was a bit too cheesy. I pity him but the collectors were so confusing for me to understand. Loki's reasons are the reason why MCU fans loved him. Even though I feel the Tv show kind of ruined him at least he has moments where he was crafty. The Collector overrelied on being a child which is why I feel they should've had moments on being cunning. Maybe Collector could've been a higher being that created The Boiling Isles and its inhabitants. But The Collector's people feel they were overusing their powers for chaotic teasons. So they decided to lock them away. I think it makes more sense because The Boiking Isles is a playground to Collector because they created said playground. It would've been more sense than the original origin of the Boiling Isles. Overall ths Collector is fun but I always felt Dana could've done better with the character.
The Collector is interesting to me as it implies that there's a possibility that there could be more Titians still alive since it's pretty vague as to whether or not the Archivists (the collectors older siblings) actually killed them or put them into suspended animation and hid them somewhere in their own realm, since most of their story was told from the Collectors point of view (I can't remember if we got more info from King's dad or not feel free to correct me). This is the problem with introducing stuff really late into the game as I feel there was more that could've been done with the Collector and the other Archivists cause the one thing that bothered me was the once the Collector was redeemed, they just kinda went back to their own realm and would visit occasionally. That....had to be an awkward reunion with their older siblings that were partially (or completely again we don't know since we possibly only have the one perspective) responsible for them getting trapped in another realm for god knows how long. Anyways love this design, I think the colours are much better and really make them look like they aren't from the boiling isles and defiantly from another world.
You're confused about the timeline of the Collector while I'm here figuring out how did the Titan make King's Egg if he was dead for a long ass time to the point he started to become a skeleton. Did the Titan had King before he died and placed the egg on himself before dying? And how did King hear his father roar when the Titan is dead? Or was King created after the Titan died? Can someone please answer this?
The island that king was born on and lived till eda found him wasn't apart of kings dads body so kings dad probably layed the egg then went off to trap the collector and died in the process
I say this as someone who loves TOH but I swear, HALF of this cast had this problem of having one personality and then suddenly having another. Amity went from a generic mean bully to suddenly just a quiet girl who did nothing wrong (and then the show tried to remedy this by blaming her behavior towards Willow on her parents and friends, when they only asked her to cut ties with Willow not bully her) and Hunter going from snarky and quirky to this over dramatic sad boy in the span of two episodes. But the collector really let me down.
I really reeeeally like the Collector. But his original colors... they're sooo pale. I even prefer to draw him in bright colors, even if it's not canon. I just feel these colors would fit him more 😭
Wait how did the collectors species kill the Titans if there magic doesn't work on the Titans? The collector said his magic didn't work on King so how did the Titans die then? Like by the logic of the show the collectors should have been killed cause Titan magic is stronger not the other way around
To be honest I'm not entirely sure maybe they could only harm the younger titans since there magic is weaker or not developed but then it's like how did the bigger titans die off and how many big titans where there like luz and king had to teleport to half way around the world another titans body plus the island where kings from showed no signs of it being a titans body so is there just natural islands makes me wonder if there where small islands almost like nests in a way where the titans would lay there eggs also now I'm wondering to titans lay eggs like spiders like do they have like a million kids and kings dad was like a rare exception to the amount AHHHH see this is why I wish the collector wanst included his presence just confuses more and more of how the world works
While I still like the collector and find his design cute I'll forever be bothered by what could have been since the collector was the last character to be I introduced they where kept secret and had small hidden detail moments which obviously lead to a bigger story which is why I cant decided if they should have been added in but then how does the day of unity stop (I'm thinking maybe king could stop it but that's alot to think about)
The only reason the collector was in the owl house was Dana couldn't think of a way to save the boiling isles population from belos's destruction other than put them in the collectors "crown castle"

the collector’s design had SUCH a good chance of being one of my favorites, but for some reason, the colors make me kind of upset? i can’t explain it. it’s like when you have an itch, but when you go to scratch it it disappears and the cycle repeats. like it’s SOOOO close to being good but it’s just not. still, his design is cool, probably my 5th favorite. not really up there but not bad either

The redesign of the Collector reminds me in someway of Peter Pan and Moon & Sun from the FNAF. And I also get the impression that they sometimes like to go fishing while sitting on the moon.

I also really enjoy the idea of the collector having a tantrum because it would really sell on the fact that they’re an overpowered child who could literally murder someone at the end of the day, making him even more threatening as an antagonist- at least while they’re still against the protagonists. Damn the cancellation for robbing us of Collector screen time!

Also, I’m thinking about how the animators could’ve played around with their powers because if they were to freak out I think it would’ve been interesting if there were some visual changes to their design for that scene, maybe the lighting could be played around with especially since they have a lot of celestial imagery in their design. Honestly I’m really sad we didn’t get to explore more of his powers and having a scene like this would have been such a great opportunity to sprinkle some info about that in. Overall it would’ve fit his character a bit more and I’m obsessed with the idea of having that, it would’ve made the moment so much more powerful 😭

Stellar design and insight.
Personally, the Collector lost a bit of his theatrical appeal when conflated as a child rather than an entity with frivolous tendencies. Yes, Philip may have been an adult when first introduced to the Collector, but fundamentally when compared to a cosmic being, human mortality is eclipsed by the enduring. Maybe I'm so used to the mythological classics of ancient deities steering mortals down paths for entertainment or trickery that having the tables turned in TOH felt off.
Initially, I thought both had something to gain from their collaborative efforts, Belos the control and absolution his prior existence as Philip denied him and the Collector access to an untapped realm to warp and puppeteer. Both selfish, apathetic, and manipulative, truly a twisted partnership not so often explored but shows just how powerful cooperation can be when used for the forces of villainy.

I love The Owl House. The story, the animation, the music, the characters. It is no surprise the show stands out as a favorite, including mine. But even being a fan cannot make me ignore the flaws of something, no matter how much I love it. I feel while the story was wrapped up well, the series from a writing standpoint was messy. A lot of my gripes with the last two specials involved not using time wisely, the Collector's character being retconned, and ignoring themes of the show. Here is how I would have rewritten the last two specials, and the Collector for the most part. I am by no means a professional writer. I have no idea what was going on behind the scenes and I want to give the benefit of the doubt to Dana and her team.
For The Future:
The special opens immediately as Luz and her family/friends enter the demon realm. Everyone is on edge after the confrontation with Belos. Luz offers to bring everyone to the Owl House to see if they can find supplies, since they are now stuck indeterminately. When they arrive, a wave of starry energy engulfs the house and surrounding area, bringing the puppetfied citizens of the isles with it. Willow attempt to save one of her dads from the puppet Owl Beast, with Luz trying to save Willow, when the Collector arrives with King, having come to play the Owl House game. King is relieved to see Luz, but horrified to see she is now in harm's way. The Collector is shocked too. King kept the Collector from trying to find Luz and her friends by claiming they would want to ruin their game and that the Hexsquad should be left alone. King manages to convince the Collector not to hurt Luz, and he takes her back to the Archives. He leaves the others by encasing the Owl House in a dome at the request of King.
The rest of the Hexsquad and Camila are then saved by a group of resistance members, consisting of Raine, Darius, Eber, the CATTS, and some Hexside kids. Raine explains after the Collector stopped the Day of Unity, Eda attempted to stop the Collector with harpy mode but turned into the Owl Beast. While the Collector dealt with beast Eda, King dropped Raine his collar, who figured out the symbol etched on it neutralized the Collector's magic. Raine has spent the past few months saving the puppetfied citizens, taking them from under the Collector's nose while they play. The Hexsquad's arrival proved the perfect distraction for Raine to save Lilith and Hooty, who the Collector was keeping an eye on due to being important characters for the game, and use the symbol to undo their puppetification.
Raine takes the group back to Hexside, which is hidden using the symbol. The group formulates a plan. Using Lilith's memory of Philip's teleportation glyph combo and her knowledge of the architecture of the Archives from being trapped there herself before Raine and co rescued her, the Hexsquad, CATTS, and Camila, teleport into the Archives, to find and teleport all the puppetfied citizens back to Hexside where they can be safe.
They manage to teleport all the puppetfied citizens to safety, but Odalia turns up. Having been reduced to the Collector's servant, she decides to capture the group in an effort to win the Collector's favor. The group is divided, with Willow, Gus, and Hunter in one group (Willow has her breakdown arc here with Hunter, as she blames herself for getting Luz caught and not being able to do anything). Amity and Camila manage to defeat Odalia and regroup with the kids and the CATTS.
Meanwhile, after having been captured, Luz was brought to the Archives. When they arrived, the Collector dropped Luz to the floor, the impact nearly killing Luz until she is revived by the Collector (While half-dead, she appears in the In-Between Realm, where a mysterious figure tries to get her attention). King is mad at the Collector for hurting Luz, though they try to brush this off, claiming they fixed Luz, and thus it is okay. The Collector asks King to bring Luz to where Eda is being kept underguard by the puppetfied Titan Trappers. Eda is in fact, back in control of herself, and she and King embrace Luz. Eda explains she has seen that the Collector, despite his apathy towards people, is still just a kid, and she has been complying evidence to try and get him to see the error of his ways. However, the Collector arrives, having bugged Luz shortly after reviving her. The Collector is furious that King lied to them about Eda being stuck in beast form and Luz leaving the demon realm on purpose. The Collector attempts to puppetify the girls but King intercepts the shot, though he remains unchanged.
The Collector now gets nervous, and after being prodded, King realizes he, as a Titan is naturally immune to Collector magic, and the reason the Collector never tried to puppetfy him is because they already knew and didn't tell King because they were afraid King wouldn't want to play with him otherwise unless he believed the Collector had control over him. The upset Collector reveals he is the last of his species, who after years of distrust and suspicion of the Titans, led to a war where the two species wiped each other to near extinction. The only surviving adult Titan, King's dad, angrily imprisoned the Collector using the tablets as a catalyst. The tablets were made by the Collector as a gift for the Titans. That way, he could always communicate with the baby Titans, who weren't afraid and distrustful of him like the adult Titans.
Luz, Eda, and King take the Collector on a tour of the isles, trying to get him to understand the importance of empathy and ethics, while the Collector comes around to the idea that just because he can undo the damage he caused, and shouldn't do damage to begin with, the efforts end up striking a nerve with Luz, as the Collector points out Philip thought he was justified by doing what he did, and that Luz also thinks she is justified because she is a 'good guy' too, which worries Luz because she cannot handle the idea of being like Belos. (This references a cut storyboard in which the Collector questions why Luz would say other people but Belos are complex)
The trio are able to make the Collector open to the idea of being more empathetic, and he brings them back to the Archives, where they reunite with the Hexsquad and Camila. Camila and Luz have a heart to heart, which allows Stringbean to hatch. But then they notice the ground below the Archives is shaking, and the sky turns green, with the eye sockets of the Titan glowing blue. The gang realizes Belos is doing something with the Titan, and the special ends on a cliffhanger.
Watching and Dreaming:
The special starts out with Luz, Eda, King, the Hexsquad, Camila, and the Collector watching as Belos possesses the Titan, and they narrowly escape the now deserted archives as Belos destroys it with his new body. The Collector explains via a flashback that he told Belos titan hearts can continue to beat long after they die (I find it hard to believe only Belos knew what the Titan's heart and the rest of the isles didn't) and that Titans are technically stronger than Collectors, even being immune to the star species. Belos wanted to use the Draining spell as his first plan because he believed possessing the Titan wouldn't be as effective (In this rewrite, I headcanon that the Draining Spell would have concentrated all magic and used it to destory the demon realm planet, as in canon, Belos' plan was just to kill everyone with sigils) and he made the Titan plan his plan B.
Having gotten to the heart during the previous special, Belos managed to possess the titan. The Collector attempts to try and get through to Belos using kindness and forgiveness like in canon, and like in canon, Belos takes advantage of this to try and destroy the Collector. Luz and King both fly up to intercept the shot and are knocked to the ground, both presumed dead and covered in the ever growing Belos-fungus. Luz and King's friends and family angrily try to stop Belos, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, Luz and King's souls end up in the In-Between realm, where they meet Papa Titan. The Titan explains while they are dead, their souls have not yet submerged in the In-Between liquid, and thus, have not fully passed on, giving them a chance to heal their bodies and return their souls to them.
When Papa T imprisoned the Collector, the force of the spell burned his body away, killing him, though his heart managed to remain intact, and is still beating, thus, making him technically still alive. He is now tethered between life and death, and his soul, like all souls, has passed to the In-Between, a type of realm that acts as the glue for other realms, like the frosting on a cake. Papa T has been able to use the strange boxes to watch over King. He explains the cubes are the Collector's magic. When he trapped the Collector, he used the speaking tablets the Collector gave him as a catalyst, and when the Collector got imprisoned, some of the magic inside the tablets leaked into the In-Between and formed the cubes. Frustratingly, Luz, King, and Papa T aren't 'alive' enough to use the cubes to speak to people, only watch.
After hearing how the Titan took his anger out on the Collector, she nervously asks if they are as bad as Belos. The Titan, decides he can't sugarcoat the harsh truth and asks Luz rhetorically if Amity's decision to bully Willow was justified because she was protecting her, or that Lilith shouldn't face consequences for ruining Eda's life just because she didn't think things would get so bad, or that Hunter should receive death like Belos because he thought he was doing the right thing.
Papa T explains that while Belos' desire to save humanity from witches comes from a genuine place (This is one of my biggest gripes with the finale. The show went out of it's way to hint that Belos and Caleb might have had a complex and interesting story, only to never answer any of the questions fully outside of vague, second hand tales, and reduce Belos to a hate sink. Belos needs to be stopped but acknowledging the nuance and complexity of a character is not the same as excusing their actions), his belief that he is doing good means his actions are justified. Belos is an extremist, and anyone can become like him if they believe their goals are noble enough to excuse their actions.
This strikes a chord with Luz, who has been conflicted with guilt over leaving her mother, as well as her other past actions. King's soul then starts to glow, and Papa T explains Belos inadvertently sealed his fate. Baby titans like King have a special adaption where when they are on the verge of death, or get extremely hurt, their bodies activate a special Titan adrenaline rush, that makes them grow and able to use magic for a short time. King embraces his dad and his soul leaves the inbetween as it returns to his body. King can use his temporary powers to heal Luz so she can lead the fight against Belos, and destory the heart, ending Belos' possession of the Titan.
Luz is worried that she will never be able to stop Belos because she doesn't have any innate magical abilites. The Titan assures her she never needed any innate abilities. The Titan then reveals because he is dead, he never had any control over the glyphs, and thus, couldn't reveal them to her. He certainly never would have let Belos find them. Luz and Belos found them all on their own, but Luz found them faster because Belos never took the time to look for them, and actively feared the magic of the Isles (My headcanon is that Belos etched Glyphs onto his body as a reminder to himself that the glyphs were unholy magic, and only brought suffering to mankind). Luz's confidence is brought up, and her soul is brought back to her body as it is healed by King.
Back on the isles, King reawakens in a burst of energy, and heals Luz, before growing to massive size as he begins to wrestle the massive form of Belos. Luz informs her shocked and very relieved family and friends that King won't be able to restrain Belos forever, and explains they need to destroy the heart.
While Luz and her allies fly to the heart, the Collector, humbled by his inability to heal Luz and King, as well as his lesson on empathy and ethics, is unable to use his magic to fight Titan Belos, so he goes around the isles to protect the freed citizens. With Belos distracted wrestling King, the citizens of the isles rally and begin fighting the infection of Belos-fungus (This could be a nice scene for all the minor background and fan favorite characters like the Blight Twins, Viney, Skara, etc. to do something). This keeps Belos even more distracted as Luz and her friends make their way to the heart.
At the heart, Luz's allies help her distract Belos and she manages to slap a light glyph on the heart, destroying it, and all the remaining Belos fungus. The castle collapses around them, but everyone is saved by Hooty, who coils around everyone, shielding them from the debris. As the last of the Belos fungus is wiped away, King returns to his normal size, and everyone embraces.
But they notice a tiny bit of Belos glop, and corner it, a hissing, furious, Belos tries to possess someone else, but he is trapped. The Collector has a fitting idea for what to do with Belos, and they trap him in the In-Between. (I found Belos' defeat unsatifying, as it unintentionally makes him a martyr by his standards. It also doesn't allow Hunter to get any last moments with his abuser outside of the fight in Thanks to Them, but this feels more karmic to me, as Belos reneged on his deal to free the Collector).
The Collector agrees to stay around, unlike in canon, so he can help fix the damage he caused. He is living with Eda and King, and spends time helping to repair damaged buildings, and he is forming a budding friendship with Hunter and Lilith, too, who are also helping to rebuild the isles.
Luz and Camila also reconcile, and Luz begins to move past her black and white worldview. Camila allows Luz to spend time with her friends and visit the isles, but to take her life on Earth seriously too. The finale ends with the timeskip, as Luz celebrates her Quinceanera with her new friends and family.
I absolutely agree with you on the whole 50/50 thing on the collecters personality. Would been interesting if the pushed that more and see how things would play out. Made him far more intimidating as this child possessing an ungodly amount of outwardly power in my opinion.

4:14 Now that I think about it, I think this idea could work, let me explain:
The nightmare of light could be like an rpg, but in which he should face his friends, but, the moment he realizes that they are not real (This is due to the collector's mispronunciation of the witches' duel) Which would make Luz come out of her nightmare and the collector get angry because according to him she "cheated" to which he now tries to play with Eda.
The nightmare of old could be that instead of her family capturing her, they would try to petrify her because they consider her a monster for everything she did, which would trigger a persecution. Luz would appear as a light glyph (This being a foreshadowing of her death) And he would tell Eda to fight her fears, which she would do and trigger the light that would bring her back to reality, However the collector would be angry because he would again say that Luz cheated.
In King's nightmare, he would have to flee from all the titan hunters, who would look for him to sacrifice him just like in "Titan, where Art thou' Luz would reappear as a glyph of light, and would tell King to fight his fears of being the only one of his kind, which would trigger that again, The nightmare would end and it would turn into light, which would return King to reality.
At that moment where the collector brings out his anger, but in the end, that anger would turn into tears, which would make him just go to a corner to cry.
The collector, having spent so much time with Belos and not being so empathetic, would think that playing with the emotions of others would not be a big deal, something that Luz would teach him is not the case, Giving way to the next scene.
4:24 Here, instead of going to the normal places of the characters, we would go to the place of each of their season finales.
In the first, they would go to the castle of Belos, In which Eda would explain the reason for her sacrifice, being that she had never used her magic in a good way, until she met Luz,She was the one who would end up saving her with the help of the friends they had made back then, The collector would not understand why sacrificing himself at the end would be something surprising, if according to him,In the end, what is destroyed can be "fixed" by saying that Eda was surely not in any danger, so for him to understand they would move on to the next scenario.
"King's tide" being the same one who explains that although it would hurt him to have lost Luz back then, He sacrificed himself because he wanted her to come home, even though that will mean never seeing her again. The collector would interrupt him saying that he was there, and that he was not in any danger either, which belittles his sacrifice.
Luz then explains to her that the sacrifices were not given because it was something heroic, but because they protected those who could not protect themselves, to which she says: "Wouldn't it be sad if you couldn't defend yourself? It's at times like these, when people like your friends, family and acquaintances do it, Not because they can, but because they must, and that's the nice thing about having friends, you don't feel alone for being weird.
But in that Luz would realize that Eda and King sacrificed themselves for her, and she could not do it for them, to which she says: "I swear I will find a way to make it up to you guys"
(Being a foreshadowing to her death)
This would mean that when the collector decides to help, he does so because he wants to "sacrifice" himself for those he loves.

To me the collector was introduced way too late in the series especially considering "season 3". Yes we technically see him or one of his kind when Eda is trying to tame the curse and we see the creation of the curses scroll. But when the collector took over I felt like we were robbed as pulled the rug from underneath Belo's feet. I was so disappointed that he took the back seat after all this build up about Belos and Caleb history. It made Belos way less threatening and interesting. Instead of having more time with characters on the isles, or on earth they had to deal with mabels bubble from gravity falls. I liked the collector and his connection to king and the Titians but to be honest I would have cut him out of the show enterly due to the run time.
Same like yeah itd leave us all going what was up with the moon guy but that would have been fine other then belos needing the collector for the spell which like why hold on to the collector if you have the spell belos has everything he needs why keep the mirror why not break it or hide it or better yet trap the collector in a hunter Clone cant use magic in a magicless body

Unpopular opinion: The Collector's shadow form was way better than his true form. Like, I get that it's better that the Collector is no longer trapped, but his shadow form was much more visually appealing and creative. As a shadow, he could shapeshift and creep around walls, floors, and ceilings. He just warps and transforms to emphasize his words, and just for fun. Just look at how he talks to King.
Meanwhile, his true form is just some kid with pj's and face paint. Major downgrade.

Adorable redesign!!!!! The Collector's one of my favorite designs but I much prefer the more monochromatic color scheme you went with, makes them look a lot more inhuman yet still inclined with the "star" theme and such. The more saturated tones are also very nice, his personality always exuded that kind of energy.
I think it would have been a nice send off for Collector's little empathy mini-arc by giving him a proper name or revealing his name as a way of humanizing him a little. As corny as his empathy trip was, I feel like it would have been more meaningful if it was about them finding out what he wants for himself now that he's free AND seeing the world now that they're no longer being used as a vessel of sorts.

Iirc they said they wanted the idea of a chaotic neutral child god character, and when they got news of the shortening they just decided to throw the collector in there

The Collector ages super slowly tho (canonically), so in the timeskip they would look exactly the same. This redesign works more for, like, a couple hundred/thousand years into the future

Hey LovesArt23. Thanks for the redesign. I'm not a huge fan of thr design in general because I always felt The Collector's design should be more mystical and entertaining. I get you wanted to add blue and yellows but I always felt the design of the original design suited them. But I enjoyed the design.
Yes I do agree your points that Collector could've been expanded upon more. As much as I enjoyed their funny moments I do feel for me he was kind of forgettable. Or a plot field device and a diet coke version of Discord from MLP FIM.
Now do not get me wrong I loved the voice acting of Colletor and I enjoyed how gray they are. Thry were just a child who didn't know any better. A curious child who simply wantrd to have fun. And yes I do agree he could've been thr final boss more than Belos.
Belos was starting to get boring a bit and I do feel the Titans and the Collectors people was even confusing to understand. I also feel whike I enjoyed Coector's gun moments but I do wished we had malicious intentions.
I wished he acted like Discord from MLP. Now look I know Discord reformed but he did the trope better than Collector. Besides being a trickster Discord was a fun trickster that wasnxt afraid to be dangerous. Sure he reformed but unlike The Collector he was still Discord. Still plotting schemes and making pranks. He didn't reform completly as he did do crimes and yet its endearing. Even if the final season of MLP kind of ruined Discord for me he is what The Collector. A chaotic being and a wild card. Collector should've been developed more as being more of a scheming child. Or a evil version of Peter Pan.
Or him being like Loki. I wished The Collector was more theatrical and while I wished we had more lore. Maybe we don't need to. I feel The Collector should've been a mysterious creature that was unknown. As much as I accepted Collector redeeming himself his backstory was a bit too cheesy. I pity him but the collectors were so confusing for me to understand. Loki's reasons are the reason why MCU fans loved him. Even though I feel the Tv show kind of ruined him at least he has moments where he was crafty. The Collector overrelied on being a child which is why I feel they should've had moments on being cunning.
Maybe Collector could've been a higher being that created The Boiling Isles and its inhabitants. But The Collector's people feel they were overusing their powers for chaotic teasons. So they decided to lock them away. I think it makes more sense because The Boiking Isles is a playground to Collector because they created said playground. It would've been more sense than the original origin of the Boiling Isles. Overall ths Collector is fun but I always felt Dana could've done better with the character.
The Collector is interesting to me as it implies that there's a possibility that there could be more Titians still alive since it's pretty vague as to whether or not the Archivists (the collectors older siblings) actually killed them or put them into suspended animation and hid them somewhere in their own realm, since most of their story was told from the Collectors point of view (I can't remember if we got more info from King's dad or not feel free to correct me). This is the problem with introducing stuff really late into the game as I feel there was more that could've been done with the Collector and the other Archivists cause the one thing that bothered me was the once the Collector was redeemed, they just kinda went back to their own realm and would visit occasionally. That....had to be an awkward reunion with their older siblings that were partially (or completely again we don't know since we possibly only have the one perspective) responsible for them getting trapped in another realm for god knows how long.
Anyways love this design, I think the colours are much better and really make them look like they aren't from the boiling isles and defiantly from another world.

You're confused about the timeline of the Collector while I'm here figuring out how did the Titan make King's Egg if he was dead for a long ass time to the point he started to become a skeleton. Did the Titan had King before he died and placed the egg on himself before dying? And how did King hear his father roar when the Titan is dead? Or was King created after the Titan died? Can someone please answer this?
The island that king was born on and lived till eda found him wasn't apart of kings dads body so kings dad probably layed the egg then went off to trap the collector and died in the process

I say this as someone who loves TOH but I swear, HALF of this cast had this problem of having one personality and then suddenly having another. Amity went from a generic mean bully to suddenly just a quiet girl who did nothing wrong (and then the show tried to remedy this by blaming her behavior towards Willow on her parents and friends, when they only asked her to cut ties with Willow not bully her) and Hunter going from snarky and quirky to this over dramatic sad boy in the span of two episodes.
But the collector really let me down.

I really reeeeally like the Collector. But his original colors... they're sooo pale. I even prefer to draw him in bright colors, even if it's not canon. I just feel these colors would fit him more 😭

Wait how did the collectors species kill the Titans if there magic doesn't work on the Titans? The collector said his magic didn't work on King so how did the Titans die then?
Like by the logic of the show the collectors should have been killed cause Titan magic is stronger not the other way around
To be honest I'm not entirely sure maybe they could only harm the younger titans since there magic is weaker or not developed but then it's like how did the bigger titans die off and how many big titans where there like luz and king had to teleport to half way around the world another titans body plus the island where kings from showed no signs of it being a titans body so is there just natural islands makes me wonder if there where small islands almost like nests in a way where the titans would lay there eggs also now I'm wondering to titans lay eggs like spiders like do they have like a million kids and kings dad was like a rare exception to the amount AHHHH see this is why I wish the collector wanst included his presence just confuses more and more of how the world works
