Hey, this is Andy Beard from Habilis Bushtools. This is great. Thanks so much for posting this. If anyone has questions feel free to let me know.
I keep coming back to this video, and I like it.
This knife seems to be well thought out by the designer. I respect his field work in it. I believe he believes in his product!! That says a lot. He wanted it to be right before he sold it. Thanks for the review Dave!! Love your videos. Thanks to Habilis as well for such a refined product. Thinking seriously about it! God bless and may you guys have a good New Year
My favorite knife is the Timer Wolf Camo Survival Knife and kit. I have batoned wood and built shelters with it, and it has proved to be a trooper.
Looks pretty cool! Thanks for showing this one off.
Yes! Yes, we are going to continue that series. Soon. ~David
Great knife, great interview, what a pleasant moment, thanks!
At first I wasn't that impressed until he started showing all the features. Then I got it. And wow. BTW, your enthusiasm is evident, it helps. You are not full of yourself like some.
Nice vid.. I have one on the way.. can't wait.
I've owned my bushtool for about two months and it is a beast everything I've done with it chopping, small wood work, baton work, etc its shrugged it off like a boss.
Now that I have used this tool in all 4 seasons I can say it is fantastic. The JRE leather sheath is made very well. The tool itself is well thought out. I have used it for fine work, hard work and even taking down a few trees. The only issue I found was I had to spend a bit of time sharpening that edge out of the box to make it razor sharp but I think that is more preference as it was fairly sharp when it arrived but I am a big fan of shaving sharp blades. A dull blade will get you hurt. I piggy backed a Mora 2 on it with some other things so I have everything I could possibly need in one package if every stuck.
Most beautiful knife Ive ever seen. Really want one.
This was one of the very first knife reviews I saw on youtube a month ago. Love your channel and I have to say that you have gotten me into utilitarian survival knives. I am putting owning this knife on my things to do list. Thanks again for all the great vids!!!
great vid bro keep them coming
Nice review man. Thanks!
Your content is getting better and better all the time!!!!
This blade looks beautiful. I love simple knives like this
Thank you. Steven is a great guy and did a very nice job with his tool!
Thanks for this review. I just got mine and I have to say that this is a sick beast of a knife. I can't wait to put it to use. I got the same handle color as in the video and an orange-handled fire rod to match.
Hi Carter... Yes we will put it through the paces up here on the mountain...
I think its great to have a knife like that with many extra features. One can always put another smaller knife piggyback on the sheath of a knife like this and have a super good combo, ready for anything. I personally enjoy a big blade, however that's not for everyone. Cool discussion and I like the ideas behind the design.
The best Wilderness / Bushcraft knife is the one in the hands of the most experienced bushman. Tools are all too subjective and based on the individuals preference for there to be a best one. I know David stated "Best Wilderness / Bushcraft Survival Knife?" as a question, but i am just saying. None the less its still good to see people weigh in on what they think of the tools they have experimented with as long as they speak truthfully and unbiased.
***** agreed ,about the knives,to me there just isnt a favorite.i just make sure whatever i buy fits my need, and does the job.uality doesnt have to cost alot.i bought a Brades hatchet1 and a 1/2 lb,an old wool blanket, and a collins 4lb axe head...14.00 ! call me a liar if you will,i do not care.its all true.flea markets/yard sales...thats where to shop for theses kind of things.is this knife a good one?i am super sure its a great knife,...i just refuse to pay that kind of money, its steel and wood(or man made stuff)and yes i do understand about manufacture cost, shipping, yada yada yada ...i bet he could sell them at a greater rate for 1/2 the price and make the diff. up in volume.i could be mistaken though,i was once before....
Pappy *quality
i also harvest used leather furniture, the backs and side are usually in great condition and the leather makes great bags, moccs., etc.,
hat wobbla Yep
***** glad to pass on a potential resource, great thing about it is there are alot of colors of leather couches, tans, reds, off white, kinda like a bone, even grays i picked one up that was a burgundy color, great stuff
wow speechless.... I WILL be geting one thanks!!!
looks good!
The blade shape reminds me of the BM 950 Rift which I own and use everyday. I will definitely be looking for this fixed blade. Thank you for the video.
Thanks... just ordered one!
I agree... I don't often spend even $100 on a knife either... but once in a while a special piece of gear comes along...
Good thing we finally hear from u again I'm glad u made this video but when u review them it makes it a lot better
wow that is the most interesting knife I have ever seen the design is flawless.
That looks fantastic. Need to establish an outlet in the UK now. Great video.
Yes... Steven did an excellent job developing it. Well thought out for sure!
Some of the best knives I ever had were knives I picked up at junkshops and garbage bins. lol I have this knife as well and I absolutely love it. It's on me everyday, practically everywhere I go, and I use it extensively in the woods and on the farm. $200 Is a lot but this is an incredibly strong and well built tool. :)
looks like a great knife! Also the fact that I love Bushcraft, interesting blade though I'll be doing some research!
I like the one with the Charcoal Handle on his website. Great vid thanks.
this knife is really the closest i have seen to being the all around best knife for survival and bush craft exactly as you said in the title!
Got this knife in the mail last week and I really like it. Didn't love the edge though, so I took it back to a real scandy grind and now it's the sharpest blade in my collection. Haven't had the chance to test it in the field though. Definitely looking forward to it though. Thanks for the vid, it's why I bought the tool.
Thanks for the vid :)
Thanks bro... Yep... I'm saving up too... It's a special blade for sure. Oh, wait until you see the sheath... AMAZING!
This video sold me this knife, thanks! Can't wait for it to arrive!
What I do want to say though is that their is a knife that is the similar to this design but is thinner (1/8" instead of 3/16"), is with the notch for the firesteal and without the slightly different shape (anvil) for battoning. It's $110, The Pathfinder Trade Knife. The Sheath is different, inferior.
Honestly, I love the high carbon on this knife. I've been using it for over a month now and high carbon offers quite a few benefits over stainless, and honestly isn't that hard to maintain as long as you're actually using it and not leaving it on a shelf somewhere.
That's one of the best knifes I ever seen thnx for the video
Glad you enjoyed! I can't wait to get one and test out in the field!
damn bro thats a very very good review!! i want one now lol
Nice! Just subscribed!
was that a pathfinder school's emblem on the knife blade???
HOLY S HI T! Gotta be kidding.... I love it! I loved it from the first sight!
I really like this knife!!
wow great looking knife
It's a beauty. It reminds me of the knife in Nessmuk's classic treatise *Woodcraft and Camping*.
I'll have to check it out...
Indeed. Steven gave me one. REALLY nice guy! I love the shirt too...
I own this knife as well and I've been very impressed with it.
Glad I'm still kickin' too... Thanks man!
Nice tool sir !
seems like a lot of time went into this tool. it's beautiful!
Nice!
Looks like a good knife. Their SRT looks pretty good too!
Thanks Nathan. We have some regular reviews coming up... I've been away a lot this summer. Take care bro! ~David
Thanks Mark. I am trying to mix it up more and more. Take care bro! ~David
You got it!
Yes. This blade is in a different class all together!
can you please do a review of the bush tool i am pondering weather or not to buy it tks
Very nice knife.
My pleasure. Have a great day! ~David
Wow... Ok. This is VERY thought through... Nice leather sheath :D hahaha
They are nice tools... Eventually I will get one.
I know some have complained about the $200 price, however, for a knife that will last a lifetime and you get to choose leather or kydex sheath. I personally think that is a decent price.
WOW! Beautiful knife!
I like the simple but effective features of this knife... no craziness that catches the eye of the Rambo crowd. Beautifully done but my purse is not that deep :-( That does look like a well equipped sheath... can't wait to see it. Nice job David!
Indeed!
Great looking knife: thanks for the vid...RnMT
Very Nice. I wonder the top to bottom width and how that effects handling, it has almost a small shovel look to it.
David it is so cool that you have a pathfinder on this video. If you EVER get a chance to make a video with Dave from widernessoutfitters take it.
Nice touches... And he forgot to mention the notch in the handle for a bow drill.
I was looking for a blade that could be used as a chopper. I ended up getting the TOPS Bushcrafter Kukuri 7.0 because of the somewhat greater length & weight, as well as its more pronounced blade curvature [Well, I'm also a fan of Gurkha Kukris as a blade-form, in general]. Choking back on the long handle gives you about the reach of a hatchet - yet you can do detail work as well.
I love your site but there is one problem I'm spending way too much money on the produces you show like this bush tool. I did not know what knife I wanted for my bush survival pack sheath I wanted to build till i checked out your knife reviews and picked the KaBar K2 which to me is the kind of tooth you need to survive with. Now I will have this one for my bug out bag. Thank you for all your hard work in supplying us with this information. Mike
Yeah i checked out some other alpha rig reviews it looks awesome.
absolutely will be ordering. I too wasnt impressed until he started going through it
I really like the knife, if I ever spend $200 bucks on a knife this will be it for sure!
i am freaking out to,where is the second video David!!!!!!!
this knife is a good bush tool already.
Should I get this to replace my schf10? It seems like it's similar in some ways and I really like my schf10.
Looks a good all round bushcrafter.
Great design..
Developed for and tested by, Dave Canterbury. Hence, the Pathfinder logo on the blade. When Dave Canterbury tests a knife, he does everything in his power to destroy it. If it passes his tests, he carries the product at the Pathfinder Store. Dave sells the Bush Tool on his website. The grip also has a countersink notch so it can be used as the "down pressure" block when making a bow drill fire. Bought one for my grandson. Finest survival knife ever.
I have never seen this guy not like/love a product...
Dude, if you EVER decide to give one away send it my way !!! That's a NICE KNIFE ! If I could find someone to buy my extra knives I'd buy one of those.
Cool idea, I would have to see it used in the field
Ooooooh I want one!
Say Heah David, Like I mentioned before, I keep coming back to this video, something about this knife that I like, I was able to be in a possition on a ASH-1 with a Green American Flag Cerakote(both handle and blade), even though I got my new Busse Combat ASH-1 (mag handles 6 1/2" blade at .320 thick), comparing the two knives, there's alot of similarities except for the anvil (sure their different but very close), but I'm so happy you feel it's the best survival tool, because of the similarities, but I still have it on my soon to get list. Everytime I'm ready to pull the trigger, blam, something alters my getting it, like I'm still waiting on my Rodent 3 and 5, hoping my next knife would be the Habilis, blam, I get a e-mail that I won a drawing to buy the new Busse, but I also semi committed myself to the Ka-Bar Potbelly and the Parangatang for my summer Long Knife, but I think they will fall into colder weather use, I was going to get the Habilis Tool and the O.K.C. Bushcraft Machete as a combo, but I will get them eventually, Thanx David.
It is a good knife, some function and looks like a master chef knife, so even at survival times, we can make a gourmet food.
Cool design
Didn't quit... Just took a break... Next up is the BG Survival Hatchet...
Blade Show... in Atlanta... end of May 2013. You should go next year.
I just got my Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Potbelly I like the steel of the 1095 CroVan, if the Habilis Bush Tool came in the CroVan I would jump on it in a heart beat, but anyhow their very similar actually my Potbelly reminds me of a Nessmuk Style Knife on steriods and has some Butcher Knife Characteristics.
You know, I used to think that too. Turns out, just recently I found a wide variety of new techniques I'd never thought of before that make this an incredibly capable knife. I leave my woodsman's pal and cold steel shovel at home now. Guess it's true what they say, it's the indian, not the arrow. :)
what a very nice well thought out knife, usually whenever you try to do one thing you will stuff up something else but he seems to have thought of everything now for a field test to see just how good it is....hint hint
nice video :D
i'm not a knife connoisseur but this is so well thought out i've got to get it
I went to the site to look for the second video, but couldn't find it. What link did I miss?
If at all possible, could you test the habilis bush tool? I'd like to see how it performs in a real life situation.
Hey David! Have you ever done a review on the Ontario RAT series or TAK? If not, would that be a possible due review? Thanks,
Tyler
Reading the disclaimer at the beginning? Aint nobody got time for that!! Great video though :)
