really great video, enjoyed seeing how you took the time to figure out the landscape (turned out awesome btw!!) and that you finally got to add your piece of driftwood!
This video gives me a crazy idea that will probably take so much of my time. Kind of like a terrarium, but, more like a complete mini ecosystem, including tiny houses and structures and a flowing stream (using pumps and cleverly hidden tubing) and various little bugs and mini critters. Maybe even tiny human figurines. The problem I see is, the way I see it in my head, it would be a lot larger than a 10-gallon tank. Would probably take up a footprint of maybe 5ft x 6ft x 4ft. Probably thinking too big, but, sounds pretty cool. I probably need to start with a 10-gallon terrarium since I have never made a terrarium lol.
ok, I'm new at this, so when you add the stream you are filling the whole bottom of the aquarium? And is the sand wet to begin with? and What type of sand are you using. Are you covering this after?
I believe he is using Star moss, and just regular grass that you have on your lawn. 😸 But at the same time, you can use what ever is accessible for you!
How much maintenance would you say this would need on a weekly basis? My son has a salamander and a frog in a ten gal tank. Id like to build him something like this in a 40 breeder. Love your Videos btw. Thanks
Thank you. honestly Other than trimming a few of the faster growing plants on occasion it needs minimum care. I could let it go a month without any care and be okay. All I do is about 15 min of light trimming and a small water change every 2 weeks.
Wojo 77 you would want to do a water change more then every two weeks if your toad uses the water. That's a way the toad could get sick. You should add Isopods they help with the waste too. You might want to be careful with the toothpicks because toads burrow deep in soil and it could dig down to your rock layer and potentially get stabbed by the toothpicks. I'm interested to hear how the toad is doing and how much it explores in the enclosure.
So many questions! What are springtails? Eggcrate? What plants were used? Maintenance on that stream? I would like to do something like this, am new to this and would like info. Didn't get it here. Do you have another video that will? Will come back to see this matured. Turned out nice, thanx.
May I ask what the egg crate is being used for? I am assuming to help keep the structure and help prevent erosion? I'm sorry if it's a stupid question. I am still new to terrarium building to this degree. I thought the egg crate was to help keep the substrate from contacting the water to prevent soaking the substrate. But its usually used with a mesh material to keep the sub. From falling thru the ec as well.
Your thoughts are correct. I used it to help hold the soil and moss in place. Window screen mesh can also be added to hold even smaller soil particals in place. In my experience the egg crate alone worked best because as the plants matured the roots wove in really well. Also not having the mesh allowed for easier planting.
@@Wojo-88 thank you so very much for your response! I just now seen that you replied. I'm glad I chose to do as you did anyway and go without the mesh as it did exactly as you said. The clumps of grass are a wild dwarf grass that grows in my region. You can find alot of ornamental small plants at garden centers or buy terrarium plants from your local fish shop.
No need for some sort of water filteration process or just add few water or does everything comebind and it last "forever" in a sense?
