If they become a part of Nippon they will be a part of one of the worlds top steel companies and will be able to compete with the Chinese.

Who’s to say they don’t sell out to china in the end? Nobody thinks about the future anymore everyone just wants to make a quick buck and to hell with the consequences……

Back in the 1980s Nippon bought National Steel. They were doing well until the late 1990s when they hired away an executive from US steel to be their CEO. He then hired away more executives from US Steel, and a few years later National Steel went through scandals caused by the CEO and executives, and went bankrupt.
Its kind of Ironic US steel if failing and Nippon is buying them. I hope this time Nippon is smarter and dont keep the US Steel executives. They seem to have a talent of driving companies into the ground.

They or any other company should not be allowed to be sold to an overseas company.

Actually, It is a good news for Japanese people, because Japan is not a place to get tons of irons. And, There is not a big risk for American people, because Japan doesn’t have a military.

As it should be. We're America. We need to stop our companies from selling out for profit as if they dont profit extravagantly anyways. Plus there goes my #1 stock. Well #2 behind Nvidia.

@@joshuadunford3171Yeah, just feels weird to care about being hypocritical on this. Humans are hypocritical sometimes. And like I said, we're America and they're not. To act like we're not in charge in financial and economic matters (at least, for now) is kind of silly when there's an 800 lb elephant in the room. Our military, haha. I think it's just letting the system we've built, that's benefited us so much, get a wee bit out of control. We're back to monopolies, but they're not truly monopolies, they're conglomerates. And have agreements between the top 2 or 3 companies that is all that's left in most industries, to basically act as one.

I worked there for three years in management. That place lives and dies in the accounting department. The only reason I believe US steel would sell is because better that than go bankrupt and everyone loses everything.

They aren't going bankrupt you're AI or Chinese operative trying to influence the uninformed in America. Not real person or real opinion it wasn't at risk of bankruptcy and if they filed for bankruptcy the company would be bailed out and no one would lose Jobs so makes no sense

The Steel industry has been being sold out for the last 50 years and this is the final punch. Shame on the greedy CEOs who could not complete in a global market in a fair way. Their way of competing was how to pack their pockets with more millions on top of the millions they already have.

It’s a public company, no? The moment you sell shares of the business in the open market you already allowed yourself to be bought. If the US government cared that much they should have become a major shareholder but god forbid the US government buying up companies.

Even under Bush and Trump American companies have been bought out by foreign companies. It’s part of having a capitalist free market. Want a government where all business are American owned and the us government keeps control of them all? That’s socialism. As much as I don’t entirely like or trust the deal, the Owner of US steel has the right of a capitalist to sell his company to whoever he sees fit. So no this isn’t just the Democratic Party but the free market in action
