The Bullet: A NEW Invention to Make PTO Hookup Easy

  • If you struggle with hooking up your power take off shaft, here's a solution. It's an amazing new invention from a guy in Canada and it's called "The Bullet". The Bullet is a device that changes the way you think about attaching your PTO shaft. and makes it much easier.
    The Bullet comes from a Canadian inventor who has spent years perfecting his design. With a simple twist of the Bullet's outer shell, you lock it in the open position. At that point, the splines inside are free to expand, so you can slide it on the stub shaft of the tractor in any position. Once it's on, you release the lock, and rotate the tractor's shaft (or the one on the implement), until the splines align and spring into position. Then you pull it back until the ball bearings lock in the notch on the tractor shaft. The Bullet closes and you're ready to go to work. When it's fully attached you'll see a "C" (for closed), in the inspection window.
    Removing the Bullet is equally simple. Just rotate the outer shell until it locks and then you can slide the PTO shaft off. Leave it locked and it stays open and ready to attach back on the tractor. It's a whole new way of attaching a PTO and it's very simple. It's been tested for applications up to 150 PTO horsepower, but it'll work on small and large 540 RPM PTO shafts.
    Now, installation of The Bullet does extend your PTO shaft about 6-8", so if the two halves are close to bottoming out, you may have to cut one off. It does require maintenance before using, by squirting spray lube in the three access holes around the circumference. It can be snapped into an implement PTO shaft right out of the box, no special tools are required.
    The Bullet is available by going to lionforgeindus.... It's patent-pending design will amaze you at how effortless you can hook up, and make you wonder why no one ever thought of this before!

    Edit: Hi Mike, WOW does this look awesome! I liked it so much I decided to order one. I have 2 implements that are challenging to connect. The last time I worked on connecting my woodchipper to the PTO it took me an hour! This will save me a bunch of time. Thank you for researching and finding the best products. I'll keep you posted on how I like it.
    Mike, I received my bullet pto coupler yesterday. I'm impressed with the speed of the delivery, from Manitoba to Wisconsin in 6 days, and over a weekend! The product itself is beefy and clearly has been made very well. I will be out this weekend using my coupler and I'll keep you posted on how I like it.

    Hi Mike!
    Just yesterday I was struggling with a pto and I thought "I wish Mike would show me how to make this easier" 😀 I hope John sells a pile of those so the price comes down. It looks much more practical than the other gizmos I've seen.
    Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    When I put on my Pat’s Easy Change I got a PTO stub extender for about $60 off Amazon that made a big difference in hooking up PTO shafts. Moves the attachment point back about 5 inches which makes it a whole lot easier to see what you’re doing and get to everything to get the shaft on while pressing the button. The Bullet is a great idea, but I question the wisdom of leaving the lube holes wide open to collect dirt & water. I can foresee having to remove it frequently to clean the grit out, otherwise the collar won’t rotate freely and the parts inside won’t retract as advertised. It’s expensive, but I hope the fella gets his R&D money back and makes a mint. But for me it’s a pricey solution to a problem I was able to solve for 60 bucks. Love the channel, Mike! 👍

    I love seeing new inventions because it shows the creativity of us humans. This is a real winner, and I like your idea of using it in conjunction with those easy connection units that extend the lift arms out. That would make it easy then to move this from implement to implement rather than having to cut each implements PTO shafts shorter potentially.

    Love the idea- wonderful for rear pto. But wouldn't be perfect for under my Kubota tractor as the shaft already rides tight to the box. Also every 8 hrs , means pretty much each time or other time crawling under to pop off for greasing. Keep up the great inventing & work John!

    Just checked out the website. The cost with tax and shipping is $428.74. I got the PTO Link as I’m constantly changing implements. The PTO Link is not perfect but a huge improvement over not having anything. Using it with the Pat’s Easy Hitch has speeded up my implement change tremendously, particularly with the brush cutter. I’ll wait and see some more reviews of the Bullet before spending the almost $430 for it. That being said, I love seeing the small time inventor coming up with products that make life easier. For that reason alone, I’ll probably buy one down the road when its been tested out in the field. Thanks Mike for bringing this (and other ideas) to us non-professional tractor users.

    This is pretty nice. It's nice to see competition in that space. The Easy PTO link from Tractortoplink and the PTO quick connect from Tractoraddons have been out for a while now. I have had the PTO quick connect from tractoraddons for about 3 years now and absolutely love it. This does not look any better to me than those. The only sort of advantage I can see from this is that you do not need an adapter for your pto shaft but that is really not a big deal as I only own one tractor and could buy additional adapters.

    I've more or less gotten the hang of connecting the PTO shaft, so I don't think this device is worth the $350 to me right now... but as volume goes up, unit cost comes down, and my hands age, price and need may well converge at some point.

    I ordered a Bullet because I am 67 years old with arthritic hands. I chose the Bullet over competitive products because it does not require any parts to be installed on the tractor, yet apparently can be easily transferred from one implement to another.
    Lionforge, if you are monitoring these comments: Mike doesn't mention which lube is recommended. Does spray silicone work best? Or would something thicker, like spray white grease be better? Or, another lube product?

    • @lionforgeindustries
      @lionforgeindustries 2 роки тому

      Hi Ralph, Thank you for the order! You are correct, there are no parts required to be installed on the tractor and you most definitely can transfer it from one implement to another. For lubrication, we recommend Fluid Film or similar light oil sprays that provide lubrication but are not sticky like grease. Thanks!

    I think one issue you’ll see with this idea is if it ever gets shock loaded or worn. I think it will get itself lodged on the splines and get jammed and extremely difficult to disconnect. I think with spring loaded splines like that you could see an issue with let’s say a bush hog with a seized slip clutch that hits a stump, or some kind of high torque application like a bailer

    I like it, would be east to interchange between implements move from the mower to the tiller. But I think the pto link may still be the option in go with. Price this vs a single pto link is rather close, but if I didn't want to move it from one to the other the pto link being two piece you can buy extra implement halves and never have to move stuff, but that would get pricey as heck so 50/50 on which could be the best overall long term.

  • @MLJenkins
    @MLJenkins 2 роки тому +6

    This is an awesome invention! Couldn’t you just buy 1 and move it between implements since the real pain is usually when you are having to bend down in between the lift arms to connect the pto? Also, another question, this would extend the solid part of the shaft coming out of the tractor several inches before the joint of the yolk. I wonder if there could be any danger of added stress on the pto shaft by extending the length of it since that would put added pressure on the pto shaft where it goes into the tractor gearbox housing?

    • @brianworley7705
      @brianworley7705 2 роки тому +1

      I can understand the concern of more side load on the tractor PTO shaft. If one added this device without something else to move the implement further back, one would need to check the u-joints in the PTO shaft as the angles while running could change when it starts to bind up the moving joints.

    I have MS and bought a JD Quik Knect because of the difficulty hooking up my PTO. My problem with it is the cost of 2 different parts and the fact that you'd need the PTO side for every implement you have as it replaces the shaft end (so not interchangable between implements). Looks like this would address both of those issues.

    LIGHT application of a diamond needle file inside the female splines of the PTO shaft... and keeping the couplers cleaned and lightly lubricated (instead of rusty) And the normal PTO couplers are just fine.
    Rusty splines will drive you insane...
    A PTO shaft that has been on and off many times over 40 years... and well cared for, goes on and off with zero issues.
    A bungee to take most of the weight as you are hooking up... solves the weight issue. (and can stay there as it restricts rotation of the guard)

    My brother and I use an overrunning clutch on the back of our 1980s-era Ford 5610s. With the brush hog, it’s designed to be the mechanical weak point, opposite the slip clutch; for when the inertia of the cutter is more than the PTO turning force. We go through about 1-2 a season on each tractor, as they twist. Has John looked into this occurring? I don’t mind paying $75 for an overrunning clutch. $350 though, that’s more difficult to justify if the splines begin to twist.

      It is intended to be connected to your implements driveshaft end and then connected to your tractor using the bullet coupler end. We have tested this for a long time and while it will get dirty we kept the holes to a smaller size so this would be minimal, and regular lubrication would help dispel any moisture (if any). It will get dirty, as most coupler ends do, I try to keep mine couplers clean on a regular maintenance basis so they work well and the bullet coupler is no different in that regard. On that note, we are always looking to improve on the product as we move forward and we appreciate your comments, thank you!

    Several questions come to mind for me. First is will this work with tractors with a shorter PTO stub shaft like some models of Kubotas come with? Second, how is one supposed to reach up and under the PTO cover and have space for hands or fingers to rotate the tractor shaft so the device will lock in? That just locks the splines, so you then have to pull it back or slide forward to engage the lock into the PTO shaft notch. Can the lock to keep the shaft from sliding off the splines be locked and then allow the splines to lock when the tractor PTO is started, aka lock it under load? I don't have a problem aligning the splines with my current collar lock shaft. Seems to be creating a new problem of extra pieces to wear out with use.
    What keeps ice from holding up in the lubrication holes and stopping the lubricant from making into the dozens of internal parts needing regular lubrication? More details needed (price rumblings as well) before I can determine viability for my use.

      Hi Brian, thanks for the questions. It will work with tractors with the shorter PTO shafts, we have put together some connection guides now on our website to address some of the different scenarios some may encounter, ie: tractors with free spinning pto shafts and tractors with non free spinning pto shafts. You can find them here lionforgeindustries.com/wp-content/uploads/Bullet-PTO-Coupler-adapter-connection-guides.pdf
      Regarding locking under load, this was done in testing and we do not recommend this as most tractors can’t control the speed of engagement of the PTO.
      I have run the coupler for the past two winters on my snowblower without any issue, keeping in mind regular maintenance. Pricing is also available on our website. Feel free to reach out directly if you have anymore questions, always welcome a conversation. Thanks.

    Hi Mike. Looks like a great invention.I am assuming that I have to remove my existing spindle. How difficult is this to do?

    A video showing the problem and this solution would be even more convincing with more sales.

    Your video woulduh been ALOT better had ya physically showed us on a PTO driveline attactchment hooking up to a tractor PTO!

    I've got to agree, that's a pretty slick product. However, the price will have to come down about 50% or so before I'd spring for it. With 3 implements with PTO shafts, that's a bit painful in the ol' wallet (of course I understand I don't need to buy all three at once, but still...).

      This to me doesn't look like other products I've seen that require one per implement. I mean I suppose if a person is super lazy they could have one per implement but what is so hard about just keeping this in your tractor tool box then jumping off to hook up? Even with those other systems you have to attach the non-fixed end so you are still getting off your tractor. This thing looks ridiculously easy on both ends so not understanding why people are saying you need one per implement.

    Up to 150 horse i would like to see how it holds with that much in place since thats a lot of torque for 150 horse on 540 pto . The cost of the some of these easy and quick PTO connectors is why i have yet to try one . But I see how the consumer side of tractors people will eat them up

    Thanks for the info Mike! Seems very intriguing. I cannot find any videos that demonstrate the product… are you interested in doing a live demo? Also, what are the possible failure scenarios? Is it possible the collar could rub against some field debris and unlock itself? If that happens, what would be the result in the field? Would it become a projectile? Thanks in advance!

      The button needs to be pressed in before the Collar can turn.
      And the button is flush with the outside of the Collar.
      It would take some creative action of some Material to press the Button and turn the Collar in the right direction..

    Mile, won't the teeth or splines inside his PTO Bullet grind down the splines on your existing PTO shaft spindle? I love the invention but leary until there's been time on the street.

    I like the other options available that don't have moving parts like the pins and springs and don't have to be lubricated every 8 hours. Nice design but I'll take simple first.
