Over the years I have seen many youtube bird/wildlife photography channels transform from great content at the outset to some sort of camera gear home shopping boredom after one or two years. Your channel is different. It never fails to amaze me how you manage to create so much useful information on so many different species and present hints on where and how to photograph them best in high frequency on a regular basis. Your life long experience in wildlife photography shines through every time. Thank you very much, Mike, for all the wonderful videos, images, tips and the occasional jesting. I really appreciate it! 👍
I enjoyed watching that Mike. Two learning points for me - talk to farmers and ask permission + dabchicks flatten their feathers before diving 😊Thank you.
some cracking footage. Great patience as ever. I'm not at all surprised that birds don't know what season it is. Thanks for sharing the video, they are always great to watch.
Great & informative video as always Mike. What I like most about your videos is you give hints & tips on how to get the shot of different species which I have used with great success in the past. Keep up the great work. 👍
Where I live we have both the Least and Pied Billed Grebes and as you said getting images of them surfacing is a challenge. Thanks for another great video and the tip of where to look for them as they surface.
Splendid footage and narration. We have a good variety of grebes here in California; the same challenges apply when it comes to assessing when and where they’ll emerge after a dive.
I am 74 Mike and just ourchased an om1 i, i have both the 75-300 ii oly and 100-300 ii lumix. After 4 spinal fusions, a pacemaker and 6 stents that's the upper limits of wt that i can handle. I do "run and gun" photography of florida waterfowl. My hat's off to you re your preparation, the gear you carry your patience. Would like to do more video but the brain doesn't switch gears quite fast enough. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for sharing. I had the rare opportunity of female Hooded Merganser on a near by creek in June. Only see them during the winter month here. She was one lean crayfish catching machine. Just in the about two hours that I was observing her, she caught 11 crayfish.
II had a similar experience with a pied bill grebe last year. I was never able to predict where it was going to come up but I saw that it was catching little black crawfish about two inches long. That was a good tip for fishing.
Another great video Mike, when you process your video do you still use Cyberlink, you seem to shoot more video than stills at the moment, for me I like that. Happy New Year.
Mike- usually I go to your channel for the field craft & behavior information, but this time what I noticed first was gear: it looks like you’re carrying a Tenba Axis pack. I’m currently evaluating one, but can’t use it "for real" while keeping it returnable. So I’d love to hear your opinion about it under actual field use. Thanks-
Hi, It is a Tenba bag, but there is no model number on it. I have had it a while so maybe no longer made. My only real requirement when I buy a bag is that my large lens complete with camera body and lens hood in place fits so I do not have to assemble anything. The OM 150-400 does that. It is a rear opening bag. I have no strong views on this. Either way works for me. It is too large for flying so I have a smaller bag for that. Other than that it is fine. No issues with stitching or failing zips.
@ Must be the same bag or very similar- 150-400 with hood on an OM-1 just barely fits. Good to know that it’s able to withstand the rigors you must put it through.

Thanks

nice, happy holidays. Thanks.
Same to you!
Lovely images. I’ve seen several on the grand western canal
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent
Thanks
Excellent, I had been wondering how you get access to all these isolated locations, I'm forever fighting off kids and dogs !
We have very similar Grebes here in Queensland.
Another great video Mike, when you process your video do you still use Cyberlink, you seem to shoot more video than stills at the moment, for me I like that.

Yes still Cyberlink although it seems less stable these days. Each update seems to create more issues.
Creating a small island in a pond might help them breed. Especially if it is ringed with vegetation where they can hide their nest.

How many people have got that on video. Not many I'm sure 👏
Thanks
