Excellent video Russ, beautiful scenery, good commentary, and I am very impressed with your fitness, decent climb there my friend - well done mate, keep them coming:-)
Thanks Gordon, it was a climb to remember and I went up it again last September. 3 more videos to come from this series then a few from 2023 including a great ride in Hungary!
Great effort- I'm going on the 24th for a week, staying at Pollensa and IF I attempt this (got loads of other rides in the Garmin) I'll pay the 37 Euro to get a shuttle to the Repsol garage at Lluc. It's 46km plus 1000m elevation before you even have to climb back out otherwise, the shuttle drops that to 300m and can easy zone 2 it to the bottom for the attempt.... I'm off out up Cairngorm again today(lucky training ground but some very steep sections on that)- like you said the UK has a lack of these long, fairly consistent gradients so hopefully it would be about pacing it and getting the HR right...If I can do sub 1hr I'll be happy. Your camera footage on the descent reminded me of my first descent of the Bealach Na Ba in 2006 on a GT Avalanche MTB on slicks, with a "prosumer" Fuji camera gaffa taped to my helmet that captured more of the road in front- when you watch it you keep craning your head backwards trying to get a view lol.... hit 62mph on that descent after exiting the hairpins onto the steepest part...dodging sheep and campervans (pre NC500, it's ruined now!!) Psychologically Sa Calobra is punishing I reckon- due to making you do the descent first- it isn't what we think of as natural- should be the climb followed by the rewarding descent!!!!
Thanks, have you seen my latest Sa Colabra video? I hope you have a great time and the Cairngorms are a great place to ride, I went through there when I did lejog. Good luck on the sub 1 hour, steady pacing and keeping a positive mind will get you there. Ha ha the go pro angle was bad on that trip, it's taken a while to get it better. Let me know how you get on.
Im going back to Mallorca in july, cant wait! Previous best on Sa Calobra is 48 mins so would like to break 45 but not a priority, just want to enjoy it. Did a previous PB of 1h02 on Puig Major which has infuriated me so will be trying to break that hour 😂
July, wow it'll be scorching! Enjoying the experience is always the most important thing and as cyclists we are driven in improving as well. 48 is a great time, that was my first time in 2022. The next episode shows how I got on last September, so keep an eye out for that. Puig Major is the longest climb I've done, so we'll played for that👍
@Russ_Dillon I'll look forward to it soon, loving the vids so far! Yeah July isn't ideal for temps but it was my only window, cycled I 25-40 a few times so sure I can manage it. As long as I get to enjoy it I'm happy, hitting my personal top5 climbs; Coll de Sóller, Puig Major, Sa Batalla, Coll de la Creu, Sa Calobra (plus Port de Valldemossa, narrowly missed the list lol). Last time I was there was 2019 and Puig Major was the longest climb I ever did, but since then have done 24 and 30km in alps and also a 34km in pyrenees, so keen to see how it shapes up for me now
@kenwynn3871 Thanks I really appreciate it, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I hope you have a great time and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If you've since done longer climbs that'd great, I want to ride in France soon, so many iconic climbs there! Good luck and have a great trip.

How many miles and what’s the start and finish? Thanks.
The ride was about 70 miles I think from Alcudia, you'll find the route on my strava.
