Subscribed. Nice one Gareth. I'm aged 63 years with plenty of failures under my belt and under my wheels. I have no intention of buying an e-bike any time soon. I can't do Sa Calobra or Mont Ventoux in the same times I could in, say, 1998 but I'm still doing them when I can. It's a state of mind.
Thank you! What I meant to say is that I will need an e-bike to keep up with him... I will always put in the same effort, even if the speed decreases as I get a bit older. That's the beauty of cycling.
Like it. Raw, honest and stripped right back - emphasised by a lack of musical score. Felt like you were expressing yourself rather than trying to impress anyone and this makes you all the more authentic. Good job. Also - anyone else think you look like a fit Jordan Pickford!?
Congratulations on achieving your goal of completing Sa Calobra in under 30 minutes, Gareth! Your determination, perseverance, and the way you embraced failure as a stepping stone to success is truly inspiring. Your dedication to balancing your passion for cycling with being a parent is a testament to the importance of self-prioritisation and setting an example for your child. Thank you for sharing your journey and motivating others to pursue their goals with dedication and passion.
Subscribed and looking forward to more 😊. It looks like you’re trying to find the right balance of being available but also investing in yourself. It’s good you have a support system that allows for individual development before returning back to family time. Something about you’re delivery reminds me of the fallacy of having it all - you just have to give the best effort (in different areas of life) when it makes sense and those levels can be shifting all the time.
Brilliant Gareth. Been following you on instagram for a few years now, glad you’re now on here too. Massive congratulations on achieving your personal goal of sub 30 on Sal Colobra 💪🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🍾
Really inspired by this Gareth. I am a dad of a 7 yr old boy and recently fell back in love with training on the bike after many years away. Keep up the videos man, you have a talent for this.
i recently stumbled upon your instagram page and i just wanted to say thank you for the message you are sending. i had been struggling to find my place in the sport again after a breif departure, and just needed to hear someone speak my mind and to remind me why I ride my bike. I fully agree on your philysophy toward life and how mundane and easy it is for many of us today. I would have burnt out long ago at my day job if it werent for cycling to simulate a more physically and mentally demanding senario which i find otherwise missing . Maybe that dark tunnel you go to when you are sitting at 200 BPM and holding on to dear life is inherent to counter act the symptoms of depression that come from the mundanity of today's life where survival is almost garunteed. Or maybe i just like the idea of zipping round on my bike in lycra. Either way, please keep up the good work and looking forward to your next video.
Thank you for this feedback. Through continuous introspection, I have learned that I am a warrior. I need to go to war with myself daily to find inner peace (yes, it's a contradiction-or is it just cyclical, ying and yang?). I believe humans need to be challenged, to fail, and to overcome to feel self-worth and grow. I call it "the art of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable." Cycling is the perfect way to channel this.
This is everything that cycling is for me. In the last 5 years that I took up cycling since my childhood, I have constantly improved due to my deep obsession with marginal gains, dietary changes, and my thirst for knowledge about how to go faster on my bike. Your opening statements really resonated with me. Well done on your achievement. 😊
great vid! Can totally relate to this video ... went for sub 40 (rather than sub 30) after a couple of attempts, and finally got it in there by 11 seconds... Also a father and totally agree that you got to do what you love to stay in a good headspace for your family!
That is super impressive on the result and the mindset Gareth. My fastest up Sa Cal is 31.33 this year, aged 52 and on a roady, no aero gains, need to work on that. Great video and good luck with the channel, I started mine with no expectations and have failed so many times to gain traction but this year it started to grow. Keep at the videos, love the honesty and straight forward talking. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you! The first 6km is fairly shallow. If you look at my splits, I made up loads of time in the first 6km by bending my pack a bit lower and lowering my cadence. Sounds like you have room for improvement, and sub-30 is within your reach.
Wow! Thank you for speaking the language of “discipline “ that I hear loud and clear. I understand you sir and thank you for inspiring me to do better. Maybe I’ll see you on zwift and we can ride together. Best wishes and congratulations!!!
I am sure your grandfather would have been really proud of you reaching your very important goal of achieving this exceptional feat. Also, your very inspirational talking is not cringy at all. Thank you for this very entertaining content.

VERY inspiring video bro! i had to get out in wet and windy conditions today and didnt have it in me. after watching this i was gassed to go! thanks bro!
Nice video and nice words you have shared! I’m happy to see your beautiful point of view about what cycling is for us. Congrats for your PR and keep going :) greetings from mallorca
Well done.👍 I rode up it last year so I know how hard it is. My front tyre started to warp because the lining failed, but even without that I wouldn't have got under an hour !
Amazing video! Thanks for posting. You’ve inspired me! I’ve been to Mallorca a lot but always avoided SC because I’m afraid to find out what my best effort would be… at least for now… TrainerRoad got me on the right path..
Nice video Boss. Stumbled across this. Very well done. Next challenge - the Bealach Na Ba. You might be a bit late for it this year though.. take it easy. m
Absolutely smashed it Gareth! Super inspiring and cracking video. That sheep interrupting you was hilarious. Also…as if you averaged over 320watts for 30 mins and Tom Pidcock is still 7mins quicker 🤯 Was that a go-pro under the bars? And tan walls on the all black bike is, as always, 💎
I can relate to 100% of words you’re saying except obviously on parents. And I really surprised to find another man who does cycling not purely “for fun” but for training itself 👌 oh and great achievement going sub 30. I think I need to add it to my list as well 😂
Sa Calobra is absolutely beautiful and there is no reason to try and ride it in a minimum possible time. Better take it slow and easy and enjoy the scenery. 😂
Great video Gareth, what an achievement. Kudos. Really interested in hearing or seeing how you got to this point, doing 360 watts for 20 minutes is only a dream for me at 50. How did you plan and go about your training. TSS RPE Time wise…? Off bike.
Good effort and great video, I too have a target of sub 30 but realistically don’t think I’ll make it, now you’ve reach your target, what your next goal ?
all about being a responsible parent I love my son.. I'm gonna climb this damn mountain or DIE trying lol that's awesome about your dad.. my grandpa and mom are big inspirations for me for similar reasons
Rim brakes when every second matters for sure!
That’s a really impressive achievement - balancing multiple priorities in life, and also a very nicely edited and classy video ✊

Brilliant effort! I've done a 32, but that's a mile away from sub-30 when I crunch the numbers. Fair play.
I want the sotry behind that O2

Not sure exactly, around 68kg.
