How to make Chicken Bog

- Today we are showing you how to make Chicken Bog, a Traditional South Carolina Rice dish. It is a very yummy dish that combines rice, chicken, and smoked sausage to make a comfort food dish. The flavor of this dish comes from the broth that is made when the chicken is stewed. Follow along and see what you think. Just remember, there are variations to any regional dish. Different parts of the state make it slightly different. There really is no wrong or right way to make it, this is just my take on it.

Ever been to the Loris Bog Off? You buy a ticket and sample about 20 competitors bog. ALOT of varieties. Wet, dry, with a hundred ways to season. If you ever plan a visit to the SC coast, schedule around the Bog Off.
I have heard of that but never been to it. Sounds like a lot of fun. I should go sometime. Thanks for letting me know about it. Thanks 🙏
Yumm-O!!!!
Thanks Ellen
I like how foods have history and I also like when people make dishes their own.
Tim (Hubby), just had noodles with his supper. Salt and pepper. Simple and yummy.
Me too. Alot of our dishes have African influence in them. Sad past but it brought two cultures together through food.
It's fascinating where food and how meals come together and from what.
Many of my grandma's best dishes, came from making food stretch. I love that.
The Happy Whisk Yes I love how they get passed on like that too.
:-)
My father in law make this and its fabulous! Great to come home to a pot full. Harder to make right than you think but worth several trys.
Yes it’s so awesome! Thanks for watching.
I live in Upstate SC and I have family in Aynor SC. My cousin got married in Aynor and they served Chicken Bog. It was my first time trying it. Loved it
It's some good stuff. I love it! Thanks for sharing that!
I need to get Abby to cook this. Looks like an awesome gluten free dish!!
It's so good too Keith. Very flavorful.

@@AllenGoodman Man that’s awesome 👏. Glad you liked it and I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Try using Penders sausage , it's the best for Bog 😋😋
I’ve never seen that brand before. Where do you get it? I’m all about trying new brands.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie IGA or Piggly Wiggly in the Carolinas sale it. Walmart has it sometimes too.

Yumm, new supporter
Thanks 😊
Enjoy watching this video thank you for sharing this video
Thanks so much 👍
When I make chicken bog I make way to much enough to feed a army. I love it in the winter. I learned how to make it when I lived at myrtle beach sc in the 70s.✌👍🍁🍂
It is hard to gauge it sometimes. It's so good! Thanks
Never heard of it. Looks good though. Ingredients are good.
Liked the cast iron. I’m going with the swamp low bottom theory on the name.
Yes that is a good there as well. I actually about bought another Dutch oven but they didn't have the matching lid at the lodge outlet. I usually buy seconds to save a few bucks 😂
Here in the lower part of the Pee Dee region we cook pileau. It's dryer than a chicken bog and it also has a brown color due to it being cooked in a cast iron pot. I never heard of bog until I started working in Cheraw. As my great-grandaddy use to say "if you can throw it at the wall and it stick it ain't pileau."
Haha I like that saying. That's about how I like mine too. Thanks Bo.
This looks so good Ronnie! I've had several chicken and rice dishes, but never one with sausage added, it looks really good! I would like it broth-y, for sure! Oh, yours is better because you used bacon grease, oh yeah! :) Looks good, then you glossed it at the end with that butter, yum! Thanks for sharing Ronnie, and have a wonderful and blessed day ----Stacy 😍❤
Let's Cook Ya'll Haha I loved that description "glossed" it lol. This is really good. I think my buddy Tim would love it! You should do a instapot version of it. Like a collaboration!
Me likey. Me want. I can remember my Stepmom making a similar dish.
Thanks friend. It's a really good dish. I love how food brings back memories.
Looks so good. I love broth. Thanks for sharing, will be trying
It's a awesome dish and very simple.
I’ve never heard of this dish! Yum!! Looks good!
It's a great one!
Oh yeah that looks yummy
Thanks Broseph! I guess if you wanted to, you could add in some bacon?
I'm not sure I've ever had this before, maybe something similar. It looks fantastic regaurdless.
It's a very good dish. Would be a great instapot dish too. The smoked sausage is really the flavor carrier in it. Give it a try.
Looks awesome to me Ronnie. Thanks for the recipe!
Thanks Bill
Hey Ronnie. I've been wanting to do this cook for months. This is one of the rainy day cooks we use to do at the work shop for years very similar to this with a little difference i seasoning and also done in a pressure cooker. It is a wonderful recipe, fairly cheap, easy to do and feeds lots of people. If I finally.get around to mine I'll reference yours. Great job buddyro. Love me some chicken bog, slaw, slice of bread, and a cold glass of tea.
You got that right. We always ate it before we move hunted and while running our house is lol. I appreciate that Mr. Phil. We still got to get together and break bread. Later buddy 👍
That would be a good dish after a nice long hunt, Thank you for sharing Ronnie
Yes, we have had it like that many times. Sticks to your ribs too!
That's interesting brother, never had that before. Kinda looks like what we call chicken and rice in the Sip, minus the smoked sausage. Looks tasty tho bro!! Thanks for the share, really cool to see eats from other states!! Dan
It is pretty similar, its all about the broth and sausage to me in the difference. I know when we make chicken and rice around here people add in cream of chicken to it as well.
Oh yeah, sorry I was MIA last week, I went on vacay and took a tube break.
Just over here making Cajun rice and watching this about to starve. Lol. Good stuff man!
Haha, Sorry bout that.
Oh yeah!!!!! I've been waiting for this one a long time! I'm one of those that prefer my Chicken Bog a bit more "soupy", but yours looked awesome! Nicely done Ronnie!!!
Thanks, Chris. I needed your approval of this dish! You know how it is haha.
Great job done buddy! I have had this before with other items added in. You shonuff whooped up a good'n here no doubt. Looked ever so tasty! Thanks for the recipe and how to! Hope you have a great week!
Thanks CB. I actually meant to post it last week while I was on vacation lol. I totally forgot about it. It's a great dish.
Oh Man Brother... I been waiting for this one... and it was worth it! I was wondering what
the "Chicken Bog" was all about, and now I know thanks to you.
Ima gonna try it for myself soon! Cheers
Give it a try. I bet ya gonna like it. It's best to throw some Texas Pete on top too.
I’m not a big fan of the one dish meal, but that looks pretty good. I think I’d like it drier more that soupy.
That's how I prefer it as well. Give it a shot.
Why not. You should be
Nope. Lol. .
