I'm disabled and dehydrated meals work great for me! I can't stand at the stove and cook for a long time anymore. So, when I'm in a lot of pain and can't cook they're great! I just have to turn on my kettle and I can eat meals I made on the days I could. Dehydrators are so useful!
This is exactly what I am getting at myself! Make my own dehydrated meals for hunting trips and for hiking trips! Thank you! I love the cozy! I will make one for me and one for my friend :)
The best way to remove the fat is to brown the meat then add stock to it and simmer it. Then take the stock and ground meat and put them in a fairly tall container such that the liquid is covering the meat by at least 2 inches, after that put it in the fridge overnight...the fat will float to the top and harden, then you can pull all of it off easily.
Here's an idea for you. I take my own dehydrated vegetables, Lipton chicken or vegetable soup packets, and La Moderna Fideo noodles or something similar and I have have a very hearty and filling soup in individual servings. Start with rehydrating the veggies then add the soup package, and the noodles if using the chicken flavor. If using the packaged vegetable soup add the noodles near the end of the cook to give the veggies time to rehydrate properly. You can even add dehydrated or canned meats if you like. A bowl of this, a few slices of canned brown bread sprinkled with some butter powder or ghee, and you won't go hungry.
I am looking to control the ingredients. Premade backpack meals are filled with terrible ingredients that cause inflammation, which in turn is bad for your body. Just getting started i the research phase. Looking for how to make my own long tern storage dehydrated meals for camping, bug out bags, hunting, etc... Great video, Thank you for taking the time to make this content.
I'm glad to know that the vacuum seal bags from FoodSaver work just as well as a freezer bag. Only thing I would do different, and this is not a ding by any mean, I would add some psyllium husk to the meals. And when I say psyllium husk I mean less than an eighth of a tablespoon. That's just to give you a little bit of fiber to get things moving along on the trail . Again this is not a ding it's just my professional opinion. Otherwise, awesome video!
Howdy. What a great video! In your experience, how long will the dehydrated, sealed bags last on a shelf? Also, have you ever rehydrated this type of meal w/out the reflectix? Thanks!
I prefer to skip breakfast and eat a really high fat diet starting at lunch time, but one great way to get calories in is to add some grass fed butter/ ghee with some coconut or mct oil with your coffee to make “Bulletproof Coffee”. You get a ton of high fat liquid calories and the fat helps to slow down the absorption of the caffeine which keeps the caffeine kick going longer.
Think im gonna try this for my upcoming diy Alaska 10 moose hunt maybe I will use some leftover moose so they can smell their own!! Thanks for the great video!
I'm looking for backpacking meals.... that I'd want to eat!! Peanut butter ramen is definitely not for me 🤮This sounds perfect for chilly nights!😜 And I think my hunny might would even go with me 😍😍😍
I’ve found that dehydrated food can make tiny holes in my vacuum seal bags. I add a paper towel to protect the bag. Seems to work and then I have a towel w each meal. Wondering if you’ve had the same problem & if not would you mind sharing which bags you are using?
When you seal a meal your mral do you ever have the food saver bags puncture from the sharp dried pieces? I seem to get quarter of mine puncture. I found if i wrapped it in a paper towel in the seal a meal bag it prevents them from puncturing and i have a napkin!
Putting boiling food into a plastic bag is a great way to consume a bunch of microplastics and probably various nasty chemicals depending on the plastic used. It's not designed to hold boiling water, but rather to be frozen
You can also dehydrate those. Just make sure you use parchment paper or paraflexx sheets to prevent the liquid from dripping through the trays. A tip for a more runny recipe is to use metal binder clips, fold the edges and corners of your parchment paper sheets and clip the corners to create a lip or an edge to prevent the liquid from running off the sheets. As of stews i substitute stew meat with ground meat/ bread crumbs. It allows for better rehydration.
Definitely 2 months. I'm eating 1 year old dehydrated raw egg (cooking after rehydrating) and it's fine. It was also my first time dehydrating and it's in a Ziploc bag not even vacuum sealed.
Those are homemade out of a reflective bubble material you can find at Home Depot, Menards, Fleet Farm, etc. It's typically used for insulating pole barns and metal buildings. Called "Reflectix Insulation"
@@bowhuntordie haha I suppose so. My wife does the same thing, she puts her chili on top of the noodles.............. and the first time she did it... made noodles with chili, I was kinda blown away............ because I've never seen that before. On the west coast, chili is never put in noodles, except for in goulash which is a totally different dish.
I love that you learned this skill because you love your friend. That’s a good man right there.

You could also boil your cooked meat to get rid of excess fat.
Josh, those are great tips on dehydration, and I'm really glad we'll get to see more of your public land hunting. Thank you for the great video.

I like the idea of preparing it in the bag
Pressure cooking chicken breasts works fine. Ground Turkey works great aswell.

This is awesome. I’m going to start doing this for my camping trips. This looks way cheaper than buying it from the store.
Great instructions. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thankyou for this info, love the coozy idea, brilliant
Some of the best years ive had hunting in wisconsin were before we purchased land. I took some nice deer in the chequamegon on public land
Great ideas, I’ll be using these. Thanks
Thank you for keeping it simple and showing the entire process.
Thank You Josh; very informative.

Some use paper bags watch another video that is what he was talking about as well
I was wondering the same thing, just seen that on another channel, she wrapped the brittle stuff with parchment paper then sealed it...
You have to condition it before vacuum sealing
Question: Can I use mylar bags to rehydrate the dehydrated food instead of a food saver bag?
Good video, thanks!
I'm not sure how I feel about boiling water and plastic. BPA heaven.

You can use a wax paper envelope to put your food in before the food saver bags
I've that happen as well, did NOT expect it. Good tips, thanks!

what about recipes that you normally use more liquids? chilly sauce, tomato paste or sauce?
what about stews? etc?

Thanks for this! No more ramen noodles haha
Or use ground turkey like ground beef and add the bread crumbs?
How long would you say the shelf life is for these meals? Would they last a month or two before my trip?
I’d say like 7-10 years
Definitely 2 months. I'm eating 1 year old dehydrated raw egg (cooking after rehydrating) and it's fine. It was also my first time dehydrating and it's in a Ziploc bag not even vacuum sealed.
How long on the shelf would it last ? I thought about doing this for emergency meals.
great info i use food thermos for rehydrating cause i dont like eating out of plastic no offense everybody is different
Could you dehydrate home canned turkey?
What is the average time it takes to dehydrate the chili. Ball Park?
now we just need a way to dehydrate a 12pk or 2
😂😂😂
This guy reminds me of Stone Cold Steve Austin
What is the shelf life of something like that?
Where do you find those there heater bag for cooking your meals??

can you taste all the microplastics and chemicals from the bag?
Boil the burger, put it in a strainer and then rinse it again with boiling water.
Ever try buffalo burger there's almost no fat
I'm sorry bro, but you did not make chili. lol. chili with noodles is called goulash .
Why can't it be called "chili with noodles"? 😂😁
@@bowhuntordie haha I suppose so. In Texas they'll hang you for it!
