- I tell the story behind the long-lost childhood favorite "My Grandpa is a Vampire" (a.k.a. "Grampire", a.k.a. "Moonrise"), starring Al Lewis as an elderly bloodsucker who takes two young boys on a magic-filled adventure along the New Zealand coast. Directed by David Blyth.

Thank-you for your great review, best wishes David Blyth
Thank you! That means a lot coming from you.
Hey everyone! UA-cam seems to be having trouble and the comments were turned off for some reason, but we're good to go now. Thanks for watching!
Am I the only one that still barks like the Goosebumps dog? I doubt it.
Never heard of it, but your clear affection for it is infectious
The sad thing is how Gocke died. search Wikipedia for it, but it's a shame. Love the video Layton, keep it up!!
Had the honour of meeting the super-talented Blyth years back...a great guy with genuine love for the whimsical and the spookily weird.
In case you didn't you should watch the documentary "Goodbye, America" (2006) a fascinating portrait on Al Lewis' life and career.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Nicely done, never seen this. Met Al twice in the 70s...nicest guy you'd ever want to meet...He did love his Grandpa persona and his fans.
That's great to hear!
Oh man I remember my Aunt renting this for me on VHS back when I was a kid, I haven't seen it since. It's definitely time for a rewatch!
I will always think of "The Witching of Ben Wagner" (1990), when I see this young actor Justin Gocke, and his beguiling co-star Bettina Rae. It was a staple on the Disney Channel in the early '90s. Terrific look at this rare NZ Gem. Severin did a wonderful job of restoring the picture and the Blu-ray has an awesome interview with Daniel Roebuck, who is about a "die hard" 'Monster Kid,' as you are likely to find. His own movie, "Getting Grace" (2017) is a moving, and funny, dramedy that he directed. Great retrospective, worthy of any physical release. But, I love the Bonus Features you provide on this excellent YT channel.
This, was the movie that made me like these guys, then I was lucky enough to get to work with BOTH. This was a GREAT RETROSPECT
Your uploaded video timed perfectly on my 44th birthday. Al Lewis was the best.
Happy Birthday!
Great review! Very excellent and informative. And I agree, I think the budget cut worked in this movie's favor because it forced the filmmakers to crank up the atmosphere.
9:27 - Being a huge kaiju / tokusatsu fan, I am happy to add that David Weatherley also had a major role in 2007's "Power Rangers Operation Overdrive" as the surly butler and heroic sidekick Spencer, the best character and an honest highlight of an otherwise lesser entry to said series.
Never heard of it but I really want to watch it now. Love your videos on these more unknown gems.
In the UK this was titled 'My Grandad's A Vampire' may have to import the US blu ray for the nostalgia!
Awesome video bro. You put so much effort in your videos and it shows. Your content truly lets me escape reality and get lost in your great research on unique films. I learn a lot from you.
Delightful as always… I remember catching this on cable once or twice…it was kind of cute in that silly made-for-Disney Channel kind of way
This was great, thank you. Might give this film a go.
As always- great job on the video and thank you for digging through the crates for a movie and analysis that not many are familiar with.
Your reverence for this movie reminds me of some of the disney channel movies i liked as a kid. Halloweentown is the closest but also something like little monsters.
I feel kid-ified media gets a bad rap but the inventive, creative ways writers can distill horror or drama so kids can grasp and handle such subjects should be commended.
Some of the best editing and commentary on youtube love these videos
Wow i forgot about this movie!! It came out when i was like 7 years old haha my parents hated it but i loved it ❤
Hey Layton. Just want to say… I really enjoy your channel and your style of presentation.
Thank you.
I appreciate that!
...and they didn't call it Grampire??
In Canada they did
Great review. Movie looks amazing
Your videos are always awesome. Keep up the good work👍
Dicky Ticker is old fashioned English slang for a weak heart. 🤣 I'm from the UK, BTW.
Thanks for the clarification!
Nothing beats family friendly horror from the early 90s. It was perfection.
Also, congrats on breaking 40k subs, buddy.
Thanks!
Very lovingly done, thank you! I've shared your review with David Blyth, I'll let you know if he has any message or response :) Please do more NZ films!
Thank you! I appreciate that.
@@LaytonEversaul David says thank you and that he really enjoyed watching the video 😎🥰💖
8:58 ProudFEET!
Wait really. I thought this was a goosebumps episode since I was a kid
good review
Any chance we get Episode #3 of BINPO before the end of this year?
I've been thinking about doing one for a while, so I'll say yes.
Yo
Maybe something about Judge Dredd?
I'll definitely be covering Stallone's Judge Dredd at some point.
Layton are you able to use all of these clips and the Goosebumps song without any copyright issues? I read your Fair Use disclaimer, I just wonder if it actually works and allows you to still monetize the videos?
Unfortunately, most of my videos are not monetized because of copyright claims, but I don't care about the money. That being said, 99% of claims are because of music and not clips from the movie. If you keep your clips short, then the algorithm doesn't seem to notice as easily.
In your about section you say no movie is off limits. If this is the case, may I suggest the films of director Paul Bernardo and controversial auteur Karla Homolka?
Never heard of it.
this is a comment
hopefully they stay on this time 🤞
