I have purchased over 5 different PEI surfaces and throwing the old ones out in the trash. I'm so glad I found this video. I still have the last two in a closet somewhere. Thank you Nero!
I have found after doing several 350mm sized flex plates that using some diluted soapy water mix in a spray bottle and litely spraying the clean plate before laying the new pei down makes avoiding bubbles much easier. A laminate roller or something similar is useful for rolling the pei down from one edge to the other, squeezing the water and bubbles out. Flawless new plates aren't difficult this way.
Tossed it in the freezer and pealed off the PEI. Mixed up the pod with near boiling water in a bowl and poured it into a baking sheet with the plate. Waiting an hour and it literally came off like jello. I only had to use my hands. The area where it was laser engraved needed a little bit of scraping but that was it.
okay I'll try this - I just tried my brand new Wham Bam with PETG and ruined the eff out of it because it didn't have any instructions telling me to NOT use stock Bambu Lab settings for PETG, in fact you can't use any PETG temps above 245 degrees (WTF) the defaults are 270, it should have a GIANT red sticker telling people this.
I am currently working on this with a 300x300 energetic plate. The PEI went off reasonably well. I wonder if one dishwasher tab is enough for that size and if my tabs are the right ones. We have those "all-in-one" tabs that promise to protect the machine (limestone) and to dry spotless. Can you advise?
Great video, by I always wonder why people use pei on aluminium/metal plate.. I just sand mine with 40 grip (ruff) sand paper and quickly wipe them in between print with acetone.
CShyde if your in the USA, I use energetic off aliexpress without issue As for affiliate links atm i just have buyme a coffee @ buymeacoffee.com/Nero3dp and as of a couple days ago matterhackers www.matterhackers.com?aff=7543 Cheers
Unfortunately, I've discovered the Formbot doubled sided bed uses a film on the textured side, so this method will cause the textured side to come off. In fact the textured side comes off more easily Update: The textured side actually only partially came off and the rest was stuck on tight. So I had to scrape it off. Now my formerly double sided sheet has no PEI on it.

just FYI, WD-40 is amazing for cleaning adhesive. Way more effective than IPA or acetone
Good timing since I have my spare wham bam flex sheet waiting after a nozzle crash :X
Thanks!

where did you buy your pei sticker?
I wonder if it is the washing soda in the detergent that acts to remove it and if baking soda would also work. It is also basic albeit weaker.
have you tried just putting the sheet in a load of dish washer? Just curious.
i’ve found it much more faster if you do the step like nero said, while cook it after few minutes additionally, then all the sticky stuff comes off
This information will be very useful when I will need to replace mine!
Good to hear!
Hey! I have that same blade holder/knife! So secure
Would the detergent pod affect the powder coated pei side?
The sheet I got is doubled sided(one smooth and one powdered coated)
it DIDNT seem to have any effect on the PEI itself which since it is plastic it shouldn't, really would depend on how its bonded to the steel sheet.

Thanks for this! A part took a chunk off my V0 plate today. Do you know if the dishwashing detergent would harm the textured side of the plate?
In theory it should be fine as it doesnt affect the PEI itself, only breaks down the adhesive, depends on how its bonded

A day late for me... just spent far too long with IPA and a putty knife. I will 100% do it this way next time!

Are you saying you print straight into the aluminum?
@@paulgupta2454 on the aluminium: I dont use anything on top of it. When aluminum cool down it retract making the part free
Great idear
Thanks for sharing :-)
Does PEI offer the best adhesion for PLA/ABS? The texture/adhesion is wearing of my ASX1 glass bed and I need to figure something out.
Pei is a great for most filament types and doesnt require any helpers (like gluestick)
WHAT A GOOD VIDEO ! THANKS
very nice!
What PEI sticker works well for you and if so do you have an affiliate link to support your efforts?

Never heard of an exact knife. Must be an American thing.
