Odd Findings in the Anza Borrego Desert
Вставка

- While most people come to the Anza Borrego Desert to see the amazing wild flowers and the giant mountain views, I was excited to check out the 130 + metal sculptures that are scattered through-out the area. Ricardo Breceda has been an artist and sculptor for many years with world wide recognition. These sculptures started being installed here back in 2008. Next time you're in the Anza Borrego area, come for the flowers but stay for the artwork!

Southern California is so beautiful this time of year and I'm glad I could show you all a little bit of what I've been seeing.
I never knew about this stuff!! That is why I love your channel thanks Chris really really awesome stuff always enjoy your content Thanks for sharing this adventure. Cheers!
Those are incredible sculptures ! I live near a place called Crystal Palace here in the UK and there are Victorian Dinosaur sculptures around a lake in the park which are pretty cool.
I spent last weekend visiting Topanga & Malibu Canyons as well as Pacific Coast Highway. Practically spiritual in it's beauty. Living in No. California, we have such different coastlines.
Chris, i agree wonderful to see through your lens, Thank you keep safe through these troubled times.
These magnificent steel sculptures will last 200+ years in the desert, easily! That very light coating of rust on the surfaces will actually form a protective barrier and stop the rust from going any further. Unless they're destroyed by the biggest destructive force on the planet...man. Thanks for this video, you do great work.
Pentagon, destructive force number one.
The place is called Galleta Meadows btw.
The guy who owned the land commisioned al the pieces. He died ten years ago and the place is his legacy.
Thank you! Answered the questions I had about the place.
They are absolutely stunning. I love this type of 'random' art in obscure places. My soulmate and I (rest her soul) once spent a week standing up large ocean weathered logs on a beach we lived on. We'd dig a hole then stand the logs and fill the sand around them. Some were 10 to 12 feet high and looked like sentinels on the beach. We knew that eventually a King tide or storm would knock them over, but for a while, they stood out along the beach. We did this for about a kilometre (something of a mile LOL) along the beach. Probably 20 or 30 of them. Walker Bay beach near Cooktown Queensland Australia for anyone interested. We lived on the beach in a camp and worked in town. Dream lifestyle.
Australian bumpkins.
I was legit just reloading my subscriptions for no reason and then you uploaded and then I fell off my bed and clicked on the video
haha like magic!
It is beautiful country side. The art scattered throughout is totally cool I just hope no one will vandalize them.
So far so good. I think the people who come all the way out to see them have respect for what the are and what the represent
I live 20 miles from here that man is extremely talented man that like working with his hands and yes April is beatiful in the deserts
How fantastic! The detail on the wings of the locust. I,agree the welding adds just a little more character. Thanks,Chris for bringing this to us. Never heard of them before now. So,cool.
What fun this place was! And very interesting! That guy Ricardo is very talented! I never knew these sculptures existed! Can you imagine driving along and seeing one of these things?! Haha
It's all pretty amazing but... Did you ever to stop to wonder, how the heck did one guy, by himself, have the time to make over 130 GIANT sculptures?? Amazing...
A very dedicated man
The “serpent” is actually called a Drake
A drake is a dragon with no wings often mistaken for a giant serpent
Wow! That is fascinating. I never knew these sculptures existed.
The mountains look a lot like the mountains of Almeria Spain where Sergio Leone filmed those great Italian Westerns with Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. Awesome landscape, great sculptures. Nice…
Spaghettis are great.
Just imagine those things being real. Whoever made those is an artist
Hi, those statues were absolutely awesome with great attention to detail. The mountains and landscape of the area is truly breathtaking, thank you for sharing. x
Very cool sculptures!! Can't wait to see what cool place you'll discover next. Safe travels!
Thanks Jen
Absolutely stunning!! 💞
I’m headed to SoCal next week, I just added this to my list. Thank you...
Those were so cool! Thanks for sharing!!! Pat
Amazing Artist ~ The back drop is much the same as seen in the movie Tremors. Pretty Cool =)
Way cool! Thanks, Chris!
That is really neat. Look's like he used mostly tack welds and in some place's rivet's. Tack welding prevent's distortion and is really all that he needed as most of it look's like sheet metal.
Lived for yrs in California and so close to anza ...and now that i moved to idaho and watched this video and saw the beautiful creatures made of metal ..now i ask myself were was i when this happen???
Thank you wonderful video as always
I had no idea such wonders existed. Many thanks for showing us.
Truly fascinating n informative my faves r the horses n the jeep... Keep up the terrific adventures. All love to u n yrs
What a beautiful place.
I live about two hours away from here....I hope to go see this someday.
I was here last week, went to few sculptures. Great art very interesting
Some of these look like they could come alive any second....amazing work!
Good on you Chris another great video.just love them.
There is a spot that you should check out in Ventura California, it’s called foster bowl. It’s an abandoned outdoor amphitheater that is on the side of a hill.
Great to see, thank you
Chris you do come across some amazing things I can't wait to see what you find next!
They are awesome!
So are you for showing it to me. Thanks.
Awesome! Awesome! The serpent's my favorite!
So awesome how it goes under the road!
@@MobileInstinct I love that! That's the coolest part! Added to my bucket list for sure!
Cool rust monster in the Deserts
Those sculptures are incredible!
So cool! Can you imagine driving up to that serpent in the dark! great sculptures really enjoyed that thanks Chris, for sharing!
That’s incredible !!
Great video, like the scrap sculptures, there's a lot of those started springing up in Scotland as well, just seemed to start to appear..
Great video and amazing location. You may have inadvertenly found a geocache in the snake's mouth at 9:12 :)
Ricardo is very talented. Great find, Thanks.
One of your best & you did your home work on this I'm in Arizona so thanks for seeing our border town.
wow, that's so cool.! I traveled there in the 90's I will have to return. Thanks!
Those were amazing..... what an artist....
They are really wonderful works of art, thanks for showing us 👍
Borrego is one of my fav places to camp and hike. If you have time, check out the Palm Canyon trail. Its a 1.5 mile hike one way and there's a beautiful oasis at the end of the hike. Parts of the trail are closed from what I recently heard though.
Can't get over how quiet it is there. Another very interesting video. Thanks
Enjoyed the video and the scenery is spectacular! The crude welding is likely because thin metal like those sculptures are made from (1/16” maybe?) can be real tricky to weld without burning through it. Small tack welds along the seams are enough to hold it together without making full welds.
Wow thanks👍
Wow I was just here today, missed you
I've never beard of this. Very awesome. PS love the Boston hat dude. Have a great day and thanks for this really cool vid.
Wow! I love them! I especially that dragon.
Great video. Thanks

Pretty awesome, I love the jeep!!
Just amazing - never knew about these sculptures. Oh, by the way - this is by far one of the best exploring channels on Utube
Beautiful area and pretty cool sculptures. Dude must be some kind of mad genius!
Never knew of these. Super cool, thanks!
Beautiful area.
Ricardo Breceda is a right fine artist. Nice video man.
Yes hes very talented!
Great Episode
That's awesome! Crazy crazy talented dude!
The artwork is really cool!
That place is amazing.
Fantastick ,Ricardos a talented sculpor, love the Jeep and the details, thanks neat vid
I live near here and drive by atleast 3 times a week just saw him installing another statue the other day
I loved it! I had never heard about it.
3:00 "Tremors!!" Man, if you were out there partying and just stumbled across those in the distance at dusk!!!!!! YIKES!! :))))
You wouldn't believe some of the horrors I woke up with next morning at my mates party.
@@TheExStig were they rusty reptiles? ;))
Dig the Hey Dude! T-shirt!
Me being a welder myself, I know these took a lot of time to make. Nice video, keep up the good work.
very good....
Awe that’s cute
Wow I really didn’t know anything about these statues didn’t know they existed
I enjoy the channel.
Rad scorpions!
@9:12 you can see a bluwhite-ish geocaching container (film canister) in the birds mouth :-D
I really enjoyed this one. Welcome to California...
That dragon wow
You should of climbed up one of those mountains to get a cool view of what all the sculptures look like!
Go on Google earth and get a view!!
There is a 20 foot tall rattlesnake by the same artist in Jacumba Hot Springs. It's at the entrance of the park there.
Pronunciation is correct. Its a beautiful place. I hope you stopped at the museum. Did you remember to bring a board for the dunes? Be safe on the road.
I didn't stop at the dunes this time. I ll definitley grab one when I'm going through that area again
You're pronouncing the name perfectly. I never knew they were out there, and I live in SoCal. I so very much want one in my front yard...a really big one, in my tiny Huntington Beach tract home yard. Hahahahaha!
I just discovered your channel two days ago and am curious if you've made it to Colorado to film some of these types of vids yet?
Those were a surprise!! And interesting. Are there any road signs pointing them out? Thank you for sharing.
There are some maps in the town which show all the locations
Mobile Instinct great! Thanks
Desert Art is cool. Lots of it in the SW, especially in Nevada.
Go to Rhyolite Nevada for some other good ones.
Chuck Interesting. Nobody in my frends and family living in nevada mentions about this
The first tortoise has something round and shiny next to it's front left foot. Is it a silver dollar?
Man I love your videos, do you travel everywhere by yourself?
Usually I am alone but sometimes friends or family members come along for a bit.
@@MobileInstinct well, you seem like a really good dude, like I said, love the videos, and be safe, alot of crazy people out there.
Wow, what an awesome find. I wonder how many hours of welding was put into all those sculptures? Very cool!!!
I cant even begin to imagine!
It's Damnation Alley (1977) for real!
Wow, Breceda has an amazing work rate. It would have taken me those 11 years to do one tooth for the serpent sculpture.
I wonder if the sculptures were silver colored when they were first installed? It's nice how they've mellowed to these auburn tones. I wonder what sort of lifespan the metal will have before they start to degrade.
Ah, you mentioned this at 8:16
griffiths sculpture park 1 hour south of buffalo. rt. 219 southbound
He made Radscorpions a real thing.
You are pronouncing the name of the park correctly! It is named after the wild goats that inhabit the area.
Very interesting! I didn't know where the name came from.
They're bighorn sheep (borrego) and the Spanish explorer was named Anza who "discovered" it.
Are they all bugs?
Beautiful background landscape for the artwork. I think the serpent would have to be my favorite.
Weed in the snakes mouth 🤣
my first name is Avery!!
Funny how this borders the Salton, which is an absolute MISTAKE - imo
A lot of time and detail went into these sculptures. I wonder if he was paid to make them?
