Alessia Cara is a singer-songwriter from Canada and The Warning sisters are hard rockers from Monterrey, Mexico. The Warning girls only had one week to put this all together, so producer Matt Squire went down to Mexico to help. He brought Alessia's part in from Canada on his computer. The video was produced by The Warning team in Mexico. Alessia is projected on the walls.
Love this version. For the Metallica Blacklist album with 53 artist doing their own rendition of a song from the Black Album the question was asked to Alessia Cara if she wanted to contribute on the album and she is on the same agency as TW and someone suggested to Alessia Cara a cooperation with TW. The rest is history as they say. From Metallica’s point of view in an interview with Rolling Stone “We said, ‘Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it.’ ” -Lars Ulrich
Looking back, it was extremely lucky that Metallica asked Alessia Cara, a pop singer, to contribute, AND she didn't know what to do, AND she had the same international rep agency as TW, AND someone there said "hey, I have an idea!". About as lucky as some couple having 3 daughters who all turned out to be musical prodigies and started a hard rock band. Go figure.
Marvell studios had released a game trailer with a small portion of this song (mostly the ending) weeks prior to the official song release. Here's the original trailer: ua-cam.com/video/Ripgh8W2PMg/v-deo.html So The Warning Army had to replay this over and over waiting for the official release. What this trailer was missing, which is my favorite part of the song, is the three round vocal reprisal with Pau and Ale on backing vocals with Dany and Alessia doing the main vocal line.
The Warning don’t do anything half-assed. The video was shot in an abandoned textile mill south of Monterrey, MX. Singing is shared between Alessia and Dany, NOT Ale. Alessia was invited to be on the Blacklist album - a tribute to the 30th anniversary of Metallica’s Black album. Because Alessia is not a rock singer and she shares a management company with TW, a collab was recommended. Metallica agreed and asked that they not do a straight cover. The song was rearranged by TW, produced, and mixed (by David Bendeth) in one week in March 2021 to meet Metallica’s schedule. Due to covid, Alessia participated remotely. The Blacklist album was released in September 2021 and the video was recorded a few weeks before. Most critics think this is the best cover of the 53 on the album.
De un himno del rock , como Enter Sandman , crearon una obra maestra , y para hacer esto se requiere muchísimo talento. The Warning tiene talento de sobra 🇨🇱
it is briliant on so many levels. Wish I could have seen Metalica's first reaction to it. In some ways this is more of a sequel to the original, picking up the "take my hand" that the original ended with, and ending with the opening riff of the original. The dreaminess and harmonies are disarming, but not comforting. in many ways this is creepier than the original while appearing softer. When I think that they arranged and recorded this in a week, I'm just amazed at the talent. Then the video is a whole other discussion because as a work of visual art it is equally impressive.
@@DonKelleyMusic I think it depends on which band member it is. For the Blacklist album the explicitly invited very different interpretations of songs from the Black album, and The Warning has been on their radar since their original cover. Their current live version moves back towards the original a little bit, which fits better with live performances. Dany even gets some of James' rasp in her voice.
I love that it isn't really a cover. It's a complete deconstructed version. They don't even give you the iconic riff until it shows up in the breakdown. That's a really bold choice but makes it hit even harder when it finally hits you with the nostalgia and power 🤯
*Backstory:* Metallica was doing a charity album celebrating their black album. Charity album is called Metallica's Blacklist Album. Metallica enlisted over 50 artists from every genre of popular music. Alessia Cara was one of them. Someone who works internationally for Cara also works for The Warning. The guy suggested Cara to do a collaboration with The Warning. Cara's team asked Metallica. So it was on. Warning had a week to do their portion of the song. According to The Warning. They decided to start their version where Metallica left there's off. In the dreamy spooky side. Then bring it around to the iconic riff. Not knowing that The Warning was playing the iconic riff at a slower speed. During their current live shows. The Warning is playing a different version of *Enter Sandman.* This version, Dany is singing lead & doing the prayer. Alessia Cara (on backing track) doing her woooooo's & backups. Not a bad version for a 3 piece band. Plenty of this version on UA-cam. But one show at the Troubadour (North Hollywood, CA). Alessia Cara joined The Warning on stage to recreated their version with Dany doing the prayer. That version is on UA-cam.
Great reaction to a great song. I even seen that lost your striding on the treadmill for a second haha. They are first on the Blacklist album because Enter Sandman is the first song on the original Metallica Black album and the artists for each song on the Blacklist album are listed alphabetically so, Alessia's name put them first for the artists who did ES.
Lightning in a bottle - that's The Warning. Great collab by Alessia & The Warning. I never get tired watching this piece of art. Thanks for your reaction.🤘🤘
It's 53 songs total and there's some debate on how they ended up first. Most say it's alphabetical (Cara, DeMarco, Ghost, Juanes, Sawayama, Weezer) which looks pretty consistent if you examine the tracklist. So I'm going with alphabetical.
The Blacklis album followed the original Black album song tracks so, ES is first. Then the artists for each song are placed in alphabetical order, Alessia put this first.
Artistry. These are true artists creating a masterpiece...in seven days. Seven days to take a classic rock anthem, tear it down to it's most basic form (the original vision of the song) and create a brand new version all while staying true to the original. From concept to completion, with Alessia in Canada and DPA in Mexico, they did a spectacular job. Then, you have this incredible Guillermo del Toro style music video to top it off. Yes, Metallica loved it. You need to watch one of the videos where they play this live.

It's a damn fine version. They make it into a scary dreamscape. Metallica asked them to turn it inside out and they delivered. Aside from the music, the video directors deserve much love. Rearranging and shooting the video in one week. Astounding. Thanks for spending time covering these brilliant sisters.
This is the first track on the official Metallica Blacklick which is a celebration of the "black album" they did where they invited a bunch of artists to make covers of the tracks from the album. For as much as I love Metallica, after all it was The Warnings cover of this song back in 2014 that got me interested in them to begin with, I still definitely like this rendition far more than the original. They took James Hetfields original idea of this song as being a “lullaby” for his son and created a far more Surreal….. Darker….. Creepier….. Haunting, almost horror movie feel of a song with a powerful ending that gives homage to the original, what a touch of class. And Dany’s high note leading into the ending is EPIC! They absolutely killed it! The more we hear from The Warning, the more I come to believe it is literally impossible for the sisters to put out anything subpar! And, this collaboration with Alissa Cara, who by the way is a Grammy award winning Canadian pop star with millions of followers was a perfect melding of pop and rock. Yet In my opinion, it is absolutely The Warning who bring the “hit factor” to this recreation of an iconic song. What a Bold Statement! But, I honestly did not expect anything less. It would not surprise me if this song/video were to receive a nomination for a Grammy award. Again, they killed it! LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS aka THE WARNING!

I think the very first time The Warning and Alessia Cara met in person was at a The Warning concert at The Troubadour in May 2022... when the artists surprised the crowd by them singing the song together.
What was Metallica's reaction to this? Well, it was one of the first songs on the tribute album they made the song for, plus they had The Warning as an opening act on a number of shows, so I'd say it's safe to say they liked it lol
