I worked for Speedex for a time, in Ravenna Ohio, as a draftsman in their engineering department. ...And this is the most complete and original 1941 Speedex I've seen in almost 40 years! In fact, that "Pond Garage" stencil is absolutely wild! Granted, I don't see MANY 1941 Speedexes, but still living in the area I've seen roughly a dozen, and most are not restored but repaired. ...Repowered, re-wheeled, incorrectly painted, etc., etc.. Back in 1978 or '79, my best friend and I completely and correctly RESTORED a 1941 Speedex Model B that he got from an uncle. It was more complete than yours, but in far worse condition when I helped him fetch it. Your plow is original, as is your right rear tire. I think your steering tie rod up front is a homemade replacement though, as I've never seen another like it. I do hope you have been or will be able to find the carb or parts necessary to put it back the way it was, and most of all, I hope you've never been hurt by this thing. As you may have discovered by now, these things have a high center of gravity, terrible weight distribution, and one of the clumsiest positions you'll ever assume to drive or operate a piece of outdoor power equipment. Best to just drive it around carefully and tell everyone what a great daredevil you are to do so! ;) Thanks for sharing your video!! :)

Hi @@victoryfirst2878 Unfortunately I don't know where you might find a seat for your tractor. ...But I'd wager that Speedex bought it off-the-shelf from a vendor, meaning seats identical to your Speedex' might still be found on one of many other machines built in the same period. Speedex made many models of tractors between 1935 and their closing (in the early '90s, if memory serves.) I know that engine displacements were the basis of the model numbers in the S-series tractors made from the late 50s to early '70s, and don't know but wonder if that was also true of the M-series tractors that preceded them. For example, an S-19 tractor had a 19 cubic inch engine, an S-24 tractor had a 24 cubic inch engine, etc.. Again, I don't know if that's also the case with the M-series tractors: M-16, M-23 & M-25, but it at least seems like a fair guess. From about 1974 onward, the 30 and 40 series model numbers generally followed this convention: A final digit of: "0" indicated 8" front wheels, "1" indicated 12" front wheels, and "2" indicated 12" front wheels & hydraulic lift The next to last digit ID'd transmission: "3" indicated three forward, 1 reverse "4" indicated four forward, 1 reverse ...And the leading digit(s) indicated horsepower: "8" indicated 8 horsepower, "10" indicated 10 horsepower, "16" indicated 16 horsepower, etc. Speedex hydrostatic tractor model numbers similarly began with horsepower, but ended with the suffix "22." (...And note that earlier "2 speed" Speedex tractors only had one forward speed. The "2nd gear" was the same speed in reverse.) Some of Speedex' earliest tractors' engines, transmissions and differentials were generally sourced from Fords in auto-salvage yards. Model Bs like yours still used Fort T rear differentials and housings, but their clutch mechanisms are clever, durable and unique. The Ford Motor Company itself forced Speedex to stop that.
I have (had) that same stencil on my 41'. Thanks to seeing your video in the past I was able to easily recognize it. Mine was not on the rim but inside the final drive cover on the right side. As much as I wanted to save it, it was soaked with all the grease and easily wiped off while cleaning. Makes me wonder how many others might have one hidden under the cover, or had one on a rim. "SPEEDEX MODEL B, THE'RE ALL THE SAME, BUT THE'RE ALL DIFFERENT"
My dad bought one of these used about 1959. Looked just like this except the engine was all the way forward on the frame rails, the output shaft had a universal joint which attached straight thru to a short shaft which ran thru a pillow block bearing. The clutch pulley was attached to the other end. i don't know if this was factory or a modify, but it worked great. It came with no brakes , so my dad made an external contracting brake to attach to the left axle. It had a lever about 12" long to pull up and a band would contract around a flat faced type of pulley that clamped around the axle. I used this little tractor a lot myself, it it was tough. My Dad passed away in 1975, and I don't know what my mom did with it. She has also passed away.
Plowed up gardens for neighbors in 1962 or 63 with a tractor like this it was Brutal had to keep pushing down on the plow lever. But happy customers in the neighborhood houses sit on 4 acres most had a garden. And for five bucks I could plow up a very good size garden
I have found a 42 but does not have the original Briggs ZZ and the front end has been changed (king pins not used) If I buy this tractor will I be able to find the parts to make it whole? I would love to restore it. I am a Wheel Horse guy and would love to have it done next to my Horses. Oh, It has the optional rear individual brakes still there. Thanks! Dave in Va

Cool! I just picked one of these up in a later model, couldn't find the one that has the Briggs Z on it.
Another neat find !! Would love to see it working, plowing the field. At one time I had a Gibson that is somewhat similar to this tractor.
If we get some rain and the ground softens up some, I'll try to make a video of the tractor plowing.
