    Thanks for your tips on having socket with usb port because with today's electrical devices it's very useful indeed.

    I completely agree with you that you can't have too many sockets in your kitchen. Ive got 20 in mine. When the electrician who fitted them discussed where I wanted them he thought there were too many. I said it's better to have more than you think you need as it future proofs your home. The longer you stay in a house you change how you live. New appliances become available and you want to use some of these. Ive never regretted having them in as there's enough for all my needs

    In the US, power outlets in islands has been a general requirement. But in the latest 2023 National Electrical Code, it no longer is. The reasoning being that MANY people, especially children, have been injured by pulling hot appliances off islands and getting burned. But there is still a requirement that there be provision for adding outlets in an island. However, as with nearly everything in the US, the local code is going to vary widely and wildly. The NEC code is really just a model, different jurisdictions can adopt it in whole or in part.
    We don't (generally, AFAIK) have that "no outlets within reach of the sink" requirement - but outlets near a sink MUST be GFCI-protected, either individually or at the circuit level. Is that a thing in the UK? Pretty much every bathroom sink in the US has an outlet right next to it for shavers and hairdryers, for example, and there is usually one on either side of the kitchen sink too. Mine are certainly easily within reach. And I feel like US light switches are typically mounted a bit higher than in the UK, for some reason.
    In my new house that is under construction, I have concealed outlets in the kitchen. They are outlet strips mounted to the underside of the cabinets, behind the under-cabinet light strips. That is not allowed by code everywhere in the US, but is fine in my area. Regular outlets in the ends of the island, with USB ports, plus a couple of wireless charging pads inset into the island top.

    I know a woman who had her kitchen redone. When she did, she made sure to have a couple of extra sockets over the longest length of countertop. She knew that she would use that length to serve food for big parties and family gatherings. The outlets (US term) allowed her to plug slow cookers and warming trays. I think she also had a separate circuit put in for that wall as well.

    Very interesting, thanks for this. Although I am wondering where and what type of sockets you can install in a waterfall island ? Ideally not taking space at the front of the cabinets

    The reach from the sink has just helped dictate the left/right orientation of my sink drainer now, thanks . That adjacent wall with sockets would have easily have been within touching distance.

    Great video as always! One topic suggestion : we are surrounded by different kitchen designers, they all have different offers to help functionality (drawer with mechanic push and go, ladder with a lot of drawers, bin incrustés in your countertop….). What is for you the best items to enhance the functionality of the kitchen and how to get them if we can find them in different kitchen brands and designers and one of them won’t do everything ?
    See you in the next video!

    Hello! I’m wondering if you have suggestions about the placement of a large window in a wall that contains a refrigerator and sink? Where do you center the window on the wall and what other thing do you consider? Hope to see this in one of your videos! Love your advice, it’s helping me so much!

    Can you make a video about flooring? There are plenty of videos regarding the types of flooring but not much on how to choose a flooring style. Some questions: Polished v. Matte? How can flooring compliment a countertop/cabinets? Should you match flooring to your fixtures? Your cabinets? Your countertop? When do go dark and when to go light?

    Great video. I would be really interested in a video covering boiling water taps. Pros / Cons etc and maybe even recommendations. There is a very popular brand on the market but it is also very expensive. Are other brands any good? I’ll still watch even if you don’t manage to do a video on taps 😂

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much! Yes, I'm afraid that popular (expensive) brand is my personal preference. However, there are definitely good alternatives. I actually wrote a post all about boiling water taps on my website you can read here - kitchinsider.com/best-boiling-water-taps/ - Maybe I should turn it into a video 🤔

      @@kitchinsider Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it and I’ll check out the link you sent. I have a feeling the boiling water tap and a venting hob might be my two extravagant purchases when I come to do my kitchen 😁

    The wall opposite my kitchen countertop and sink has no countertop. Would it be safe to put a socket in this opposite wall, about 450mm from the ground? I'm thinking about safety in the event of a leak. The distance between the sink and the opposite wall is about 2 meters. Am i overthinking this?

    What about the possibility of putting socket strip under the upper cabinets? So you would not have to have the visual of sockets on you pretty backsplash

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  2 роки тому

      Yeah, definitely an option! A personal preference thing really. I think I would prefer some nice finished sockets rather than having the cables hanging down from under the wall cabinets when items are plugged in. 🤔

      Check your electrical codes, and is anyone in your home unable to reach the outlets? I like the idea of the decorative switch-plates and pop-up outlets. on the other hand, do you really want to be stabbing a plug at a socket surrounded by metal plates?

    • @ef7480
      @ef7480 9 місяців тому

      but you would have all the flexes from your pretty coffee machines and 'hot air fryers' and toasters hanging down so pointless really. Electrical sockets are part of the design similar to lamps and lighting..

    You don’t really talk about how many sockets to have on a kitchen island. Is one double socket enough ? At Christmas you might have an electric carving knife, while someone else is using a mixer and then you have run out already. Also what about sockets and shelving units ?
