The sports arena at a small private Methodist college, Duke, located in Durham, North Carolina, was named after this game’s broadcaster, Mr. Paul Cameron. He was so good that the college named the building after him.

Duke played their ACC tourney game the day before when knocking off the cheats. A lesson learned that was used in 1991, when Duke knocked off UNLV in the big dance
Very interesting that the 83-84 team was the club that gave Lefty his one ACC Tourney Championship. It wasn't by any means his best team, not even in the top five. But they got hot at the right time. Beat NC State on Friday night, Wake on Saturday, and then Duke. I was about 14 and it was a big deal to have them win, as they always had come up just a bit short in prior years. I want to say they got to the Sweet 16 that year before losing to Illinois. Great memories.
and they got helped out by Duke defeating the odds on favorite.
20 years later, also in Greensboro, the Terps led by Maryland alum Gary Williams did the same thing that Lefty did in 84, beat Wake Forest in the quarters, beat NC State in the semis and John Gilchrist single handedly willed us to beating Duke. Thanks to UA-cam, even though the Terps are now in the Big Ten, but ask any Maryland fan or alumni, the ACC will always be a part of our history

Was just thinking the same thing! I was 12 years old at the time and remember the national telecast vividly! I'm a Duke fan and this finals appearance was our breakthrough! It was Lefty's time though and I think emotionally we were spent after the upset of the Tar Holes! Wouldn't have mattered though because Len Bias was not gonna let Maryland lose! Those guys also knew what this title would mean to their coach
