    Just love, the fact that you are being honest. It is wonderful when the manufacturers come out and speak with the operators....Is amazing how much a person can appreciate being heard by the (engineers).....running gearboxes in my woodworking business....using heavy oil stabilizer in them....cooled them down .....

    We keep a water tank and a pressure washer ready to go when in wheat due to fire chance. The pressure washer can blow water from back to front and get the wet stuff on the hot stuff where a fire extinguisher cant get to.
    A local fire department gave us a foam pack to put in water. Haven’t used it yet (thank goodness) but in wheat i would think it would help. Might be a setup you can add to a fuel truck.

    Mike, new subscriber here. I found your channel because of your 1050 video. Love your honesty and the way you come across. Bold to take a relatively new combine, especially in North America, into the field and let it eat. Props to AGCO/Honeybee/your dealer for being so accessible and supportive. Encouraging to see AGCO stand behind their product so well. I'm an Alberta boy myself, so just wanted to wave to my neighbour. Have a great and successful harvest!

    I really get a sense that there is a shifting of regions when it comes to which brand is responsive to who, when, where and why. Living in Wisconsin I hear about JD and Case all the time. Granted both companies have headquarters close by, but I know there are advocates for the brands in the south US and In the South Americas.
    In any case best of luck to you.

  • @nascheme
    @nascheme 5 років тому +3

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for the video. Glad to hear that Agco is working to listen to the farmer. I hope they can refine the product and keep Deere and CNH honest.
    A few questions (if you are able to share the info). What is the grain feedrate (T/hr, bu/hr), the engine fuel rate (L/hr), crop yield (bu/ac) and the grain loss (ideally measured with a catch pan)? If you have comparison numbers for the Deere in similar crop and conditions, that would be great.
    Also, what are the combine setting (rotor rpm, concave clearance, fan speed, sieve openings) and the crop conditions (seed moisture, outside temp + % R.H.).
    I'm not surprised you need much more aggressive threshing to get a clean sample. Canadian spring wheat threshes much harder than spring wheat grown in some other countries. I have been in the field doing combine testing in both the US and the UK. Their spring wheat practically falls out of the head compared to ours. If you have grown some easy threshing soft white spring, that might be similar to how their wheat is.
    Would be interesting to see what exactly you have done to close up parts of the concave (assuming that's what you mean). Combines have to work in an amazing variety of conditions so it is natural there will be some tinkering needed to get best performance.

Glad to hear a manufacturer actually has their head on straight and taking care of their customers, seems like that’s one of the biggest issues from everyone around our area and around US, no support from most dealers. I have worked for the blue garbage company for 15 years and the Mcneilus front load trucks with currotto cans and CNG power trains were $380k us. Autocar chassis. That was 2010. Now we are getting Peterbilt 520’s with Heil bodies at $485k us per truck. The lack of warranty support and out of the gate problems astounds me. If I was a suit in the position of warranty recovery for our company, I’d be pushing hard to recover millions that are given away now. I wish Fendt made refuse bodies because it would be refreshing to have actual support. Enjoy it my friend.

  • @tommyzoo
    @tommyzoo 5 років тому +4

    Great video again Mike. Good to see Agco giving you the right kind of support too. Re the overheating gearbox, was Agco aware prior that this could be an issue as they have been running a ton of demo's worldwide. Obviously a new machine so as you say it will have a few bugs but a bit surprised it went into production with such an issue. What is refreshing is their attitude and a sense they want to get this right. I think having a farmer like you as a customer can only be a good thing for them. Clearly you won't hold back if you aren't happy an that is then in the public domain. That puts pressure on them to get this right which is a really good thing.
    Did you buy three IDEAL'S Mike ?? I wasn't sure if the others were Agco's own combines ??
    Thank you again for the videos they are a really fascinating insight into the real world of performance and ownership. Your 'unique' style is infectious, keep them coming they are appreciated by everyone here

      We had an opportunity to buy one of the pre-release new Claas combines, but didn't have the option to trade and we only had like couple days notice of the deal as well.
      So Canada Harvest Centre sold their pre-releases very quickly and so unfortunately we couldn't demo that.
      Personally, I think It was a mistake that they didn't keep atleast one back to demo, like how are we supposed to know anything about them? Isn't a pre-release exactly what that is for?! They totally dropped the ball there.
      Second: I can get a video of the Fendts in action, in fact I had one of the header in flex on a good crop of lentils, but just before I finished the video I ran out of memory and it aborted the video 🤦‍♂️😂
      Third: Demoing a Claas was always the plan, unfortunately it has to be an older one - which i worry isn't an apples to apples comparison 🤷‍♂️. So then, is really worth it? Or maybe demo the new one next year. I also worry about how Agco would feel under the circumstances, and I don't want them to think I am an unappreciated dick. 😂

      But i think that it's only for ideals or people that have a media presence. We have 4 Fendt 8370p combines. They break down basically every day, their efficiency is horrible, guys from the Italian factory were coming and going, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes but they did nothing. Their conclusions were that they only break down on our farm. As per their efficiency they dialed in "their best settings", yeah - we were going .5kph faster and loosing 20% of the grain. Fendt tractors are great but their combines are poor (and that's an understatement). We had their ideals on demo but still didn't come close to claas.

      @@Brian-rj1un their engines are actually the one thing I have not had trouble with but then again I never have with their older ones either. We have a lot of trouble with wiring and electronics and the biggest problem is JD as a company will give the consumer no support what so ever. They want you to go through your dealer and unfortunately my dealers most experienced tech is fresh out of school and the other ones have never been to school. • @mikemitchell2554

      Great question! I want to withhold my full review/ thoughts on it yet - only to be fair to the Honeybee because I only have 100 or so hours on it.. And want to put more on..
      But forsure, short crop can and most definitely is a problem if the crop is tough or green at all. It just sticks there - unless you lower your real down to scratch the surface.
      In flex, no issue.
      So far I like the belts, broke 1 already when I jammed into the ground my accident. (not its fault) but could potentially be in a bad spot.
      Don't miss the hyd of the JD, had so many of those pumps fail and send filings into my combine 🤦‍♂️
      I look forward to doing a full comparison review on that near the end of harvest.. Gotta run in standing Canola, Chickpeas, and finish the cerials first. 🙂.

      But with saying that, there's like 4 or 5 different types of automation to my knowledge 🤔.
      It will push itself to grain quality, to losses, to speed, to efficiency, and It will load the combine for you in all those OR you drive it and keep the settings on it will constantly be changing its settings to whatever you value the most.. - which i like because then I can still drive and it's fine running to my operation of the combine.

As much l like John Deere they have and arrogant independent attitude generally that makes it difficult to sort problems. That being said, What ratio would you say save on Fuel with the Fendt Tractors & the new combines compared to the other Brands. Those combines & tractors are Alsome. Hello from Ohio . Keep the videos coming. You guys have a Alsome farming Operation. Love your air seeders that you have. One other ? for you. I see you getting more Fendts on your Farm. Will your Farm change over to all Fendts? You seem like you like them to have 3 combines. Can you get software updates for your 1050? Seems like something needs to be done with that . That tractor should have more then enough Power to pull your air seeder carts up a grade shouldnt it? Maybe i am missing something. Seems like a update or tweek is in order.Keep up the Great Work. Hey Greg, thanks for the support... And yes, huge difference between the two combines, but let's be fair - the Deere has more wore out blades than the "New" Fendt but even new to new, forsure!
      The Fendt will spread a full 50+ feet evenly with or without your chaff - your choice. Where the Deeres new, could barely it 45ft..they were meant for more like 40s - at least the spreaders we have.

    Mike I have one question for you would like you to ask any one of your Reps , when they sell those combines for that kind of money why don’t they have an option for a fire repression system like large loaders and large excavators have . I know that it would be more money but they could have it as an option. Thes machines work in an high risk environment with hydraulics and grain chaff . You know that risk of fire is very high and I have never seen or herd a of such an option from any manufacturer. You would think insurance would be less with an option like that as well . I have seen hydraulic fires that your fire extinguishers will have very little affect. Im just wondering why manufacturers don’t sell such an option.

    • @mikemitchell2554
      @mikemitchell2554  5 років тому +1

      That's an excellent point Dallas! And I ll bring that up with them forsure.. I guess I am not familiar with the loader ones, what exactly is it and what does it do? What's the reload cost or is that an option?

    • @dallasbaiton3234
      @dallasbaiton3234 5 років тому +1

      Mike it is just like your fire extinguisher but it is mounted solidly with a plumbed system that incorporates the chemical into hard to get into areas of the machine. It has to be activated by the operator be for he leaves the cab . It is serviced just like a fire extinguisher with a nitrogen canister that is changed if discharged. They can mount it were ever there is room on the machine. There are different size systems and The bigger the system I do believe you can discharge certain areas such as engine compartment or rightside leftside . Most all large hydraulically powered equipment utilizes these systems. Time is essential in trying to save the equipment because now with all the So called worker safety laws a employee can not put himself at risk , well if were me I treat it as if it were mine and calmly try my best to deal with the situation. Fire is a very strange beast with only the paint onthe machine heat will make it burn . I just find it odd that with the cost of equipment these days that manufactures don’t offer an option on farm equipment. Industry equipment manufacturers have such options.

      Really fire suspension rarely saves the machine
      They're for earth moving gear because loaders and dozers the operator sits over the trans near the engine
      Trucks the driver has to walk past the rdiatormto climb down
      You smash the fire suspension and it buys you 2 to 5 min to get the hell out of there
      There's thousands of litres of oil to burn up as well as every other flammable thing
      They stop some very small fires or if there's a fire truck right next to the equipment
      Same as in farm equipment there's tonnes of chaff to smolder away as well as the oil and fuel
      A few company's in Australia have tried it but it's mostly failed to really stop anything
      Mostly people who run it are in peas because static electricity can set them off and the dust is almost explosive
      But they also have a manned fire unit in the feild as well if the risk is deemed high enough
      Most people like me blow the dust off each morning and go round with an infrared themometre to check bearing temps
      That greatly reduces fire risk

Instead, have them give you a picture of the returns! If you can see if your returns are light chaff, stems, cracked grain, whole kernels, a lot or just a little in volume, etc., you can dial in your whole machine from knowing what is in there and comparing it to what is making it into the tank. Older machines brought the returns right by the cab and made it easy to check on the fly....was pretty darn handy.
