  • These are a classic design that is been around for a century and crescent used to still make these until recently. they do work reasonably well but have fallen out of favor because they are heavy and bulky. they do have some other various uses because of the high leverage and strong pulling ability.

These are great for getting large 16p nails out when the head is busted off or chewed from a cats paw, or rusted off due to water. It can get down there far enough to grab and pull it out. Also great for if you have to reuse a board. Just be gentle and get the head of the nail and put somethimg under the foot to not dent the wood. I used this a lot when i worked repairing/remodeling a 100+ year old commercial building. Most carpenters dont use this tool much, unless if your into remodeling, demo, or repair work, then its an essential tool and gets a lot of use. Otherwise its just a once in awhile tool and a conversational piece.

I have one of these. And they are very efficient at pulling nails as long as you know how to use the thing properly you can get very quick at it. This tool was years ahead of its time....

Hultafors makes a similar tool, the Atle Nail Puller, which is actually smaller because they don't have the slide part. You just hammer it in instead.

It seems like, at least 10 years ago Home Depot was selling these things for about $50 or maybe some of the other smaller big-box stores were

Why is it, every time I consult youtube for a product review, catus maximus just happened to upload a video on that very product, a couple of weeks ago.

If you know how to use this thing properly you can pull nails without damage at all next to a cat's paw that will damage the surface much harder..

I think you over hammered that screw head, and thats why you just ripped it off.
